Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

The counter top compost bucket works for our small family b/c it holds several days volume of fruit and veggie scraps until we make a trip out back to the composter. Contains the odor of its contents well. Cleans easily, but be sure to dry the base of the lid's handle to avoid rusting.
The bags make cleaning the bucket really easy.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

This compost pail replaced our tupperware container which attracted countless fruit flies and smelled terrible. Now with the pail, no more flies or nasty stench. The best part is that it looks good. Only down side is the lid isn't very tight fitting so sometimes it might not be on all the way and a couple flies will sit near the opening. Otherwise, it's perfect for our uses.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I like the look of the pail and the size. However, within hours of washing the pail with soap and water bands of rust from top of pail to bottom of pail appeared on one side. I didn't even have the product 6 hours when it looked as if I had it for years out in the rain.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I've only had this pail for about a month, but so far I really like it. It fits on a shelf underneath the sink, so it doesn't clutter up the counter. The snug fit of the lid helps keep the smell inside, and the pail is easy to clean (I rinse it every time I empty it, and have run it through the dishwasher on occasion). I have used the bags with it so far, but may not buy more when they run out. They are a neat idea, but some liquids seep out, so I can't just take the bag out to the composter and leave the pail.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

Our retirement community offers residents the opportunity to be "green," despite our white hair, by providing a bin in which to put our kitchen scraps. Our scraps plus those from the Dining Services kitchen are then taken to a city composting facility.

The size of the composting pail allows me to empty the pail just once a week. It is abit "industrial" looking though!

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

The pail was attractive and serves its purpose. But, after one week, the knob on the lid broke and now it's difficult to open the pail. Also, it's very unpleasant to get your hands dirty (with the scraps in the pail) every time you have to put something in it.

We are really enjoying our pail. We have had to put the knob back on the lid. Had it about a week and it fell off.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I was skeptical that the bio bags would be an advantage. I really do like the bags. I always send the pail to the composter with my 15 year old son just to avoid any spills. He is also the reason I picked this particular pail. I figured that he couldn't drop it and break it. It sits on my counter nicely and is slightly larger than I expected. The bags are 3 gallon size, but they fit nicely and give plenty of room to hold 7-10 days worth of kitchen compost for me without odor. It washes nicely in the sink or dishwasher and any stains can be easily removed with a touch of baking soda.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

Attractive enough for counter. Won't break on granite. Doesn't stink, even when I fail to empty it in a timely way. The compostable bags are convenient, although they don't quite fit the pail. The small size means frequent emptying, but any bigger would be unruly on the counter.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

We use the pail to collect kitchen scraps which are then later transferred to our compost pile. Sometimes we use the biodegradable bags but I don't know how long they take to decompose. That would be valuable information to have. The pail is easy to clean and we have not had any trouble with oder or fruit flies.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

looks good. clean simple design. i like that there are no filters to deal with. i can do without the biobags, too. they don't seem to decompose in the (outside) composter very quickly. plus, with the biobags, i feel like i have to fill the entire compost pail before i empty it into the outdoor composter. i'd rather put kitchen scraps directly into the kitchen compost pail and empty it into the outdoor composter every few days, regardless of how full it is. it's really easy to rinse or wash it since it's stainless steel.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I keep our composting pail on the counter where I prepare foods. We eat a lot of whole foods which generates a lot of scraps. Much better to compost them rather than put them down the disposal! Very good product! No odor, no having to handle the food after days in the pail because the bio bags take care of that! Thanks!

I would not recommend this compost pail
By Kelli, new attorney at lawVerified Purchaser from Long Beach, CA on 6/28/2010
Pros:
Attractive
Cons:
Flimsy, Leaks
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I received my first compost pail and was really excited to start using it. However, it looked very flimsy to me and within 10 days or so, it cracked, not on a seam, but just down the side of the pail. I received a replacement pail and the lid did not fit. It was too small thus was not "air and odor" tight. I returned the second pail and declined to purchase another. [...] I would not recommend this item to anyone.

For what it is and what it's supposed to do - it is awesome. It's certainly the best darn looking compost pail for your kitchen counter. It doesn't hold much, it stinks when you leave it too long and it collects moisture between the bio-bag and pail. But if you're not lazy like me and empty it every day, then you wouldn't have these little issues.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

We had a cheap plastic compost pail that broke, and this was certainly an upgrade! It looks classy on our counter, is a handy reminder to save kitchen scraps and paper towels, and seals well enough to keep any odors in. We would not have ordered the bio bags, but now that we've used them, we're hooked! We've had the kitchen compost pail a month, and have not washed it yet- the bags keep it very clean and it's only needed the occasional wipe-down with a paper towel. There are 2 of us and we fill it up about once a week. As others have mentioned, coffee grounds will eat through the bags if you leave them in there a week, if you're a coffee addict, you might want to bring the whole thing out and dump rather than run the risk of leaving a trail of coffee!

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I use the BioBags and the pail that comes with it on my kitchen counter and it works great. It is not too big to take up a lot of counter space and it kind of blends in with the rest of the kitchen. The pail is the perfect size for any kitchen scraps and organic waste that I produce in the kitchen. I do wish however, that the bags would break down in my compost bin faster than they do so that I could use the compost from the scraps faster.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

Though this compost pail is a very nice product, I found the description misleading. I ordered filters to go into the pail, assuming there would be some sort of housing for them to help keep it odor free. When I got the pail, I realized I was incorrect and that this pail does not accommodate filters at all. I'm glad it's stainless, as the eco-bags do leak quite a lot and it requires rinsing each time you dump scraps into the composter. As far as odor control, there is little to none. Every time I open the lid, the smell is pervasive. I would not buy this product again, considering the price for what you get. I could have gotten the same thing for a lot less at our local hardware store.

They help with the odor and with the clean up. My pail stays clean and odor free.

Sturdy, odor free and attractive: a great kitchen compost bucket. I wish it came in a 2-gallon size. The biodegradable bags that arrived with it are handy, but I dump the compost out of them into my compost pile and toss the bags on to the brush pile. I know they are biodegradable, but I use my compost on vegetables; I don't want to be eating the bags later. I won't reorder bags. Who needs them with a stainless steel bucket, anyway?

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

We prepare many of our meals from scratch and have lots of 'scraps' to compost. This pail is more convenient than trying to place carrot peels in a floppy plastic bag. The handle of the pail feels quite secure, so I am not worrying about the pail falling apart as I walk a long distance down a hill to my compost pile. Once I finish my plastic liner-bags, I am looking forward to using the compostable bags, which will make my composting efforts even easier.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

This is a great container to keep in your kitchen, to compost all fruit and vegetable matter. However, the stainless steel is not the highest quality, therefore, it isn't shiny after 1 washing, and I can see a tiny bit of rust on the lid where it was wet for an extended period. I keep mine on the counter, next to the sink, on a trivet, so it doesn't get wet. As for the green bags, use plastic veg bags from the grocery store (just recycle the ones that come home with fruit or veggies in them). The green ones don't break down fast enough. I just take the pail out to the compost bin, empty the bag, and throw the bag away or reuse. For the money, this product is good, but not great.

A present for my son who was raised to compost. Wife objected to bowl of kitchen scraps on counter. With compost pail, problem is solved. No unsightly bowl of scraps, no smell, easy to carry to compost bin so it gets done. Daughter-in-law thinks I'm wonderful!

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I am putting coffee grounds, egg shells and basic kitchen scraps. I also use the bio bags. The bags are great and when flled up (holds a lot) I knott and toss in my garden. The only thing I am not sure of is if this will break down by the time Spring rolls around. I might need to by a mini composter. I am learning as I go. I do love this product and am glad to be doing what I can to go green. This is made VERY well(strong). I would recommend this. It cleans very easily and no smell leaks out.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

This pail looks nice but does not hold up long even to gentle use. Ours was kept in the kitchen for collecting table scraps for our chickens. I would take out the bag daily and wash the pail by hand as needed but even taking care the pail does not last long enough to justify its purchase. Within 18 months the pail develops a split in the lip and becomes hazardous and unattractive.
The bags are a bit large but work fine.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

We;ve tried other kitchen scrap collectors but gave up on them because they were too large or hard to use or provided too good an environment for fruit flies. Who wants their composting containter to be the centerpiece of their kitchen!

This stainless pail is perfect for us. It's large enough to collect all the potato peels and salad scraps from a meal or two but not so big it encourages waiting too long to long to empty it. It takes up very little space and looks fine sitting on the kitchen counter. It's easy to clean too.

I haven't used the biobags long enough to know how well they compost but the pail itself was exactly what we were looking for.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

The compost pail is quite attractive, but for one person, a smaller size would be desirable.

I want to dump the pail before it gets to the full capacity of the pail and the biobags. The size of a two pound yogurt container would take up less counter space and be a more ideal size for a single person.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Pail and 25 BioBags™:

I finally decided I needed a pail for kitchen scraps and I was right. This one looks good and is really easy to clean. I noticed that even with the bio bags, I need to wash the pail as moisture from the scraps gets inbetween the bag and pail and leaves behind a smell after dumping the bag in the composter. No big deal because I'm not scrubbing the pail clean, just sponging it down with soap and water and the smells are gone. So, I would say that it's easy to maintain and I can see myself ordering more bio bags because they are addictive since I don't have to use a plastic grocery bag that I'll end up throwing into the trash as opposed to recycling it. I also like that the lid fits very snuggly into the pail eliminating any aromas from escaping. And it's not made in China, woohoo!

The compost pail is used primarily for kitchen scraps. It's size is ideal for my small kitchen, and the lid provides a seal that negates odor. While the BioBags are useful in keeping the interior of the compost pail clean, I find that the bags are very slow to decompose in the compost pile.

I like this compost bucket because it's light weight, easy to clean and attractive. It sits by the sink until full -- I don't need a bigger container -- there's only two of us, although we entertain and cook a lot. I empty at least once a day, so the size is perfect, and the price is also good.
