I have one of these for each of the 5 of us. In the winter they contain warm boots and a towel to absorb snow-melt. In Spring and Fall, they hold soccer cleats and rain/garden boots. In the summer they are cluttered with flip-flops and slip-ons. Each person has their own space for keeping shoes organized. A place for everything--and everything in its place. We have 5 dogs, ranging in size from 11 to 24 inches tall, and hardwood floors. The dogs' water bowl was on a rug, but it was constantly spilling or splashing, with the hardwood floor getting wet--not a good thing. I ordered the boot tray and rubber grid to set the bowl in. There are a couple pet specific products on the market for this, but they cater to a Single Size dog--low enough for the Scottie and the bowl was too small to service 4 other big dogs. Have used the boot tray for about a month now, and am totally satisfied...I ordered two, but gave one to my nephew for their two Big Messy dogs and they think it works great too. I guess if I could change anything it would be to have the tray offered in colors...

A flat rug just isn't the answer, the tray idea with the sides just makes more sense. Any mud clumps, water, etc that falls off the boots or shoes is easily disposed of without the hassle of it falling on your floors. Clean up is quick and easy, just hose and wipe, that simple!

Since you asked:
This smaller version is not helpful, except to keep boots that are wet or dirty in one place on the breezeway by the entrance. It will keep the breezeway cleaner, but mopping the floor was easier than carrying the tray outside to clean--not possible in snow or muddy weather.

It will be durable, make the breezeway neater, and I will try to find some kind of grill to set the boots on. I gave two larger trays WITH grids, to family and they are very pleased. I NEEDED the GRILL and did not realize that the rug was just as helpful for parking boots, trapping the dirt and the melted snow water dries quickly, and can be shaken out the door, to take dirt off easily! Dirt sticks to the tray bottom and does not dry under the boots. Disappointing without the grill.

I love these study trays and I have purchased several in different sizes as needed. I use them as intended as a boot tray, but also to sit my large not-so-winter-hardy potted plants in my basement during the cold Michigan winter. In the summer, the plants go back to the 3-seasons room and the tray then continues to serve as floor protection and a watering overflow tray. Also, I use one in the garage to keep potting soil, etc on, this helps keep the floor clean and if a spill occurs a quick rinse of the tray with the water hose does the trick.

Bought two for my daughter who works for the Forest Service and has beautiful wood floors at home. I needed a smaller sized boot-tray for both inside and outside my back door. This tray, used along with the grid also sold by Gardner's is perfect. I deliberately reviewed this as it would be used for its intended purpose. I certainly can picture this sturdy product by my back door, especially with the snowy slushy boots I had from last winter.

Now I will tell you how I am going to use this: as a tray to hold a group of potted seedlings being raised indoors in late winter. I am creating a setup with a light for raising seedlings for the garden and needed a rigid waterproof tray just about this size. I have already tested it out and it is sufficient;y deep to keep all the pots nicely together and keep the area around it clean.

APS kits reservoirs are notoriously flimsy despite the overall great product (APS seedstarting kits). The small boot tray PERFECTLY holds two kits (minus the flimsy reservoir). You can easily move kits from table to outside to harden seedlings off.

One large tray wouldn't have worked for the space we had). We use them for our boots, golf shoes, everything. The small boot tray works great along with your capillary matting to make a self watering system for soil blocks. I travel during the week so I need a self watering system and this is the perfect set up. I can get three trays under a four foot light. I bought two of these. One is for under the kitty drinking fountain in the kitchen, to protect the floor from splashing water. The other is to place under a large potted plant. We're very happy with the purchase and plan to get more! Only wish there was a size in between this one and the next larger one, to put under each litter box. This one could work for a very small litter box.
