Just need to be sure to clear out the dirt that it picks up to be more efficient.. a little dowel rod comes with it.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This tool works great in very stone/clay soil. I found it very easy to use with a 1/2" cordless drill. One word of safety donot turn the drill on while clearing the soil plug from the tool. I found it safer to remove the tool from the drill to clear the soil plug. This is easy to do if your drill is equiped with a keyless chuck.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Great for planting bulbs in established beds as little disturbance to surrounding plantings. Does not create wide enough hole for double nosed large bulbs; however can be used to create a starter hole which you can enlarge. You need to have a heavy duty cordless drill for this to be fun--and it is. Be sure to use the wooden dowel provided to poke out dirt if needed. Since your trigger finger is hovering on the drill trigger, to use your fingers to push out dirt could be dangerous.

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
The only problem with this tool is the phrase "any standard power drill." We used a 3/8 in. 18 volt cordless drill, which is a fairly standard light home tool. We could only dig 15 holes in dry garden soil on one battery charge. The recommended drill should be included in the description. Having said that, it was very useful and we are certainly not sending it back.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Instructions should indicate that to use it you have to work it in "reverse" drilling mode, since if used on "forward", the item is released.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Was easy to assemble but stripped the drill bit because my ground was hard.
Hold it with both hands as it goes in the ground as it will jump if it hits a rock.
Planted approx. 200 bulbs in 45 min.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
I've been a bit disappointed with it. It isn't "sharp" enough to penetrate soil in a timely fashion, thus not getting the deep holes I expected. I am getting farther, faster, just using my shovel.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
good product but needs a bigger drill than a portable battery operated. I had to use 1/2 drill and I put in over 60 bulbs. need to re-tune leading edge with a pliers as the edge wanted to curve in. Lasted longer than any other device I have used except a shovel and after tuning I can still use it next year.

I really love the Bulb Bopper. I used it this fall to plant my oriental lilies and my tulips. This tool worked beautifully. I think that it's essential to thoroughly read and understand the 'ten easy steps (instructions)' for the use of this tool. When used correctly this tool is a work horse. I couldn't be more pleased.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Doesn't work well in hard soil or with any small roots in soil...would recommend only for loose soil
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Works well but you need to use with an electric drill or a battery drill that has enough power to dig into heavier soil. I used an 18v Lithium battery powered drill and dug many holes quickly. A good product.

While I intend to use the Power Bulb Planter in the fall, I did use it for making multiple nearby holes at the sites where I intended to plant 7 blueberry bushes. The attachement made short work of digging up the topsoil, and I was able to plant the bushes with minimal use of a shovel. I will also be using it soon to transplant a number other perennials.

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
After trying this out on different soils I realized that this item just doesn't do what it is supposed to do. If you hit any rocks you are supposed to stop. Annoying but understandable. However in ground that has been cleared of rocks this item just revolves in a shallow circle, neither collecting the dirt in it's way nor digging deeper than half an inch. I purchased a new, powerful drill to use with this, so powder wasn't the problem. This item just doesn't do anything but rotate in a shallow hole. I find it unbelievable that they would even sell this item. I definitely feel cheated. Would reccomend only if you want more junk in your garage.

This was a Christmas present. I live in Buffalo where currently our temps are 32 degrees and we have 6 inches of snow. I will be happy to review this product next Sept. when I use it for my spring bulbs. I seems like a great idea. I put in 175 spring bulbs last Sept. I wish I had this product then. I will keep you posted.

What a great tool! Three individuals (one using the tool and the other two using traditional tools) planted 550 bulbs in about two hours. The power bulb planter just sped the whole process along.

I planted 100 bulbs in about 1 hour. I don't think anything says it better for this gadget. I love it, will share it with friends and will use it for years to come!!!

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Best thing about this is the reason I bought it - you can get right up next to and in between other perennials in the garden without disturbing them.

I was planting crocus in unbroken ground. The soil was somewhat rocky and piece took a beating. Given the circumstances, however, it was quite a good product. Also, burned up one drill. Again, the soil situation added more to the problem than the item.

I was able to plant over 50 daffodil bulbs by myself using a Ryoby Cordless Drill with an 18 volt lithium battery.

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This tool worked GREAT! Granted, I have very nice (mostly rock free) soil, but I used it in very wet conditions (having procrastinated getting my bulbs planted) and it still worked quickly and easily.
The dowel for cleaning out the dirt works fine, but gets dirty and then is hard to find on the ground. If the manufacturers wanted to fine-tune this, a brightly colored, plastic or metal dowel would be even better.
But that's a quibble. Buy this thing; your knees and back will thank you.

I forgot I had purchased over 400 bulbs and went to Texas for two weeks, which cuts my time frame of getting the bulbs into the ground before it is too cold for me to work outside. This little wonder tool has helped me tremendously.

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This simple does not work with a standard power drill - not strong enough to drill the holes. I will be returning this product.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Absolutely great for planting spring bulbs. A real time-saver!
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
OVER 30 YEARS OF GARDENING I HAVE TRIED THEM ALL
THIS TOOL JUST WORKS SO WELL,ALL THE REST WENT
INTO THE TRASH,IF YOU ARE NOT USEING A CORDLESS
DRILL,BE SHURE YOU PLUG IT INTO A G.F.I.OUTLET
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
I planted 150 bulbs for the spring. Everything goes quick and smooth. As long as the ground is not around tree roots, the planter works great. It will cut throught those skinny wandering roots, but anything larger than 1/2" is tough to cut through. However, I would order another in the event that this one wears out (which will be a long time from now!)
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Outstanding! I've been looking for a bulb planter like this for years! You'll need a heavy-duty drill to use with it. It's tough, even in soil filled with rocks and tree roots. It comes with a dowel to dig out the soil that stays stuck inside the cylinder, but that's a pain, and you have to do it a couple of times for every hole. I found it much more convenient to spin out the soil by rev-ing the drill a few times in an empty pot, not touching the bottom or sides of the pot. Works better than an auger, because it cleanly removes the soil from the hole as you drill.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
I had nearly two hundred and fifty bulbs to plant this fall and it helped me to plant them properly before the weather changed. I found it to be a salvation, a great product.

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This thing works well, however, it is not practical for mass bulb planting. I probably shouldn't have gotten it.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Made this years bulb planting faster and quicker than ever ! The bulb bit is very strong and rugged and very easy to use with your power drill.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
We have lots of roots from near-by trees and this cannot get through even the smallest of roots. If you have the perfect soil with nothing to get in the way of the bulb planter it works great. I ended up digging up the area to plant instead.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Plamted 100 bulbs in no time. No more getting up & down to dig hole, then plant the bulb.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This tool made planting my bulbs quick and easy. We planted close to 200 bulbs in less than an hour, it was amazing! The only drawback for us was that the drill was cordless and the battery needed to be changed often, it would be better with a drill that is not cordless, even quicker! Wish I would have had this tool years ago, would have had more tulips in my garden. Now I can easily add more bulbs each fall without difficult digging in our rather hard, claylike, soil!
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This little gadget is exactly what my husband and I need. We enjoy growing tulips, lilies and gladioli. It's so much easier now with this little tool. Thanks to the inventor!
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
The product was great/superb/wonderful!
A real time saver!
I planted 200 bulbs in a couple of hours.
And that is no easy feat at 60.
My neignbors are jealous.
One lady is rethinking her planting plan for next year to include lots of bulbs.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
You need a powerful drill and a strong arm to make this blub planter work. I had over 200 bulbs to plant and I found that this drill bit could not drill a core in the ground. I used my spade and planted them by hand. Worthless!
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This is a nice product for planting in established beds, or soft soil. We used it for planting bulbs in an adjoining lot, and for larger bulbs that required deeper holes, it was slow going, and we switched to an auger. However, I am looking forward to the spring when I plant annuals in my flowerbeds and boxes because it is an easy tool for me to use.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
I've had them all and NO bulb planter works better than this. Solidly constructed so will last forever. A MUST HAVE!
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
It is a very speedy way to plant bulbs.
Downside - My wet clay soil sticks to cylinder and has to be removed with included dowel.
Overall, I really like this product, and would recommend it to others.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
the hole it dug wasn't big enough for my lillie bulbs it uses a lot of power I had to borrow a drill mine wasn't heavy enough and it would only stay charged for five hole.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
It worked great in areas with good soil. In areas with hard clay type soil, small rocks and roots, it didn't do well at all. Overall, it did save me time when I planted about 140 bulbs.
Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
Don't forget not to press it into the soil, but hold it lightly. It's best for smaller bulbs. It is hard to get deep enough for daffodils and tulips. Emptying it and doing it again is a little time-consuming. But it's still better than pushing in the bulb-planter by hand. I have planted 473 so far and expect to do another 100 today.

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
This didn't do the work well. I wanted to plant some 500 daffodil bulbs, the tool let me do so for the first 20 or so, and then the power drill's motor was burned out. The soil doesn't come out easily, the included wood stick is worthless. Went to a national do-it-yourself store and bought a bulb planter at around the same price which works miracle. Stay away from this tool, it's not worth the money!

Comments about Bulb Bopper®:
The catalog says "attach to any standard power drill" but the brochure with the planter specifies a 3 amp corded or 24 volt cordless drill. I don't have either and would not have ordered the planter if I had known. My 18 volt drill just wasn't strong enough for anything except very loose soil.
