Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I plant using the square foot garden method. I use the grids when planting only, I don't leave them out in the garden. The grids help me space things out the recommended distance. I'm not sure how they would hold up if you were to leave them in the garden as permanent grids.

This is a great product to use with kids! We used the Gardening Grids in our school garden, and they really helped the children. Children, and adults, tend to plant too close together, the Garden Grids showed the students how much space is needed for each plant.

I'm leaving the grids in place ,as suggested to space things properly for succession planting. It's so much faster than measuring and marking spaces by hand by myself.

I would have to rethink my purchase
By Yehudith from Silver Spring, Maryland on 3/2/2011

Deteriorates
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I used the grids all last season. The biggest problem I found with them is they tend to fall apart at the joints. This tended to happen when they were lifted out of the bed or even from the weight of my Jack Russel walking across the bed and stepping on them. The rods that make up the grid also will bend and break under any "light" strain. As a result I'm left with a bunch of broken "sticks" that are unusable and unfixable. I would really have to think hard before I'd purchase them again. Would their weak construction make up for their convenience given their price?

Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I purchased these in lieu of making my own out of lath, and wish I hadn't. They're made of flimsy metal tubing and bend/break easily; while easy to fold for storage, they also move out of position easily when you're working around them.

ONe of the grids bent upon first use. When I tried to straighten it out, it broke off. The material was rather flimsy and I don't think will hold up over the years!

Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I have done square foot gardening for years and have used several different things to make grids - string, lathe, etc. These grids are very easy to use - just open them up and lay them on the ground. If your soil is soft enough you can use the grids to draw the squares in the soil. I put the grids on top of red plastic and drew the squares onto the plastic with a Sharpie permanent marker. Very helpful in keeping the squares even. They also fold to about 1 inch by 3 feet (estimate)for storeage which saves lots of space for me.

Overpriced for what they are
By No NicknameVerified Purchaser from Arlington, Va on 5/18/2010

Cons:

Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I was disappointed at how flimsy these were. They may help to organize a raised bed but one of mine broke after one week and I feel that they were way over priced. I will make my own with sticks and string and it will probably be sturdier construction.

Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I have four grow beds so when I saw these for sale I instantly bought enough for all of my beds. After opening the package I instantly realized that I had paid way too much for what I got. In theory, these are very helpful as planting guides, but seriously, I could have made them myself for less than $3 each. I gave it 3 stars because they do what they are advertised to do and it is helpful to have a visual guide but I feel like Gardeners could have made the price a little more fair given that all they are is hollow, metal poles with a pin inserted halfway through each pole for pivoting into the grid position.

Honestly, I wanted my square-foot beds to look neat, and old blind slats didn't do it. You can use this to give your beds that I-know-what-I'm-doing look. I used earth staples too just in case of strong wind.

Comments about Gardening Grids, Set of 2:

I had used strings stapled into the raised timbers of my garden but they were impossible. They always came undone when I cultivated. These are super super easy to use. And if I need to cultivate across the rows I just remove the grid and replace. Very happy I bought these.
