Wish it did better with my weed issues
By rwVerified Reviewer from vail, co on 6/4/2011
Pros:
Good with very small weed, Long handle, Sharp
Cons:
Can't cut bermuda grass, Can't cut sedge grass
Best Uses:
Very small weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

I needed a sharp hoe to use in raised vegetable beds where there is bermuda grass where I don't want to use Roundup. There is also a lot of sedge grass in our area, and I don't want to use Sedge Hammer in the veg beds. These are huge problems for me, and was hoping that this hoe would at least allow me to chop off the top of the grass without killing my back. But it truly did nothing as far as cutting through the bermuda. I can see that it would be a good hoe to use in a bed with only small weed seedlings for maintenance, and as a tall person, I love the long handle. I just was hoping it would be sharp enough to slice through the bermuda and sedge.

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

I went to Sturbridge Village with my grandkids and saw a demonstration of a guy using a swan neck hoe. He convinced me that it was the best way to weed a garden.

I purchased this hoe and have been more than pleased. It's razor sharp and cuts through weeds like butter. Well made, great item!

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

This is a beautiful, well made, well balanced, quality tool that is a pleasure to hold and use!
Much easier on the back too! I broke my back last year and I can work this hoe without paying for it with a sore back.
We have over 10 acres and the pasture sprouts weeds like crazy. I also have a hillside garden and two large lawn areas that do the same. I refuse to use poison on the ground to control weeds. I take a pasture stroll with this hoe and it is a breeze to weed as I walk. I also use it in my garden and on the lawn.
All you have to do is go into any hardware store and look at the thick dull blades of "cheaper" hoes. I have several other types of hoes and need to work at it to keep them sharp or even get an edge to them. I haven't used any of the others since this one arrived and I have not needed to sharpen it.
This hoe replaces my regular flat head and my diamond head hoe.
I agree with other gardeners that this is an heirloom quality tool.
Thank you, Gardener's Supply!

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

The swan neck hoe is used for attacking all weeds in vegetable, herb and flower gardens. It is great at breaking through our tough clay, even on hot dry days. My husband said I spend more time with this hoe than any other tool or even with him. Have requested to be buried with it to use in the after life.

Greatest Hoe EVER!

Pros:
Comfortable Grip, Quality Materials, Well Balanced Feel
Best Uses:
Gardening
Describe Yourself:
Professional Landscaper
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

I bought one of these hoes 20 years ago and have used it so much that the handle is worn down from my hands. I am a organic Market Gardener and worked as a Landscaper for a local company for several years. This hoe truly allows you to keep your back straight so it doesn't tire. After many filings to keep it extremely sharp, it still has plenty of "head" left to it but just in case Gardener's Supply doesn't carry them forever, I purchased two more for future use. I only hoe the Garden after its Spring tilling so this hoe has had thousands of hours of use over the last 20 years. The cresent-shaped head allows you to get inbetween plants easily. It makes my job SO much easier! I have sent many fellow gardeners to your website to buy one of these, for their own sanity. :o) Thanks, Gardener's Supply!

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

The long handle, sharp blade, and swan-neck angle make this hoe a wonderful tool for weeding. I have had mine for 5 years and use it to keep a very large vegetable/flower garden weed-free. It is especially good at quickly removing tiny new weeds, even when there are a bazillion of them, and it can get in very close to good plants without hitting them.

Comments about Swan Neck Hoe:

Once you sharpen the swan neck hoe blade, it makes quick work of ivy on a hillside. Well not quick work but it has helped me immensely as I clear pesky invasive plants to make way for natives in my wild yard.
The edge holds sharp and cuts through anything in its path. Now if my back, shoulders and arms were as strong...
