Comments about Heritage Red Raspberries, 5 Canes:

We ordered the raspberry bed and the plants at the same time. However we got the plants so far ahead of the bed that we're not sure they have survived. Better coordination would have been appreciated. After emailing the company, we got advice on heeling the raspberries in but they had already been in the refrigerator waiting for more than three weeks. Fingers crossed they will still grow. The raspberry bed is great, btw. Perfect for what we needed.

[...] I put them in a bucket filled with organic plant soil, watered generously and left it in our cool garage near a window. Slowly, one by one, each root stalk began to form small buds, then shoots out of the soil. It took a full 4 weeks to see all 5 plants begin growing. I just received the raised raspberry planting bed and am ready to transplant them.

I received a G/S catalog in the mail at the office and had to take it home to show the wife the inverted tomato plants featured on the cover. While browsing she pointed out the Rasberry (and Blueberry) plants would make a great gift for her upcoming birthday. Wish granted. This was a first attempt at growing fruit and I follwed the explicit directions for preparation and planting. To date the plants are thriving and taken off well. We're much impressed with the health and hardy growth of the plants. There's no doubt these will produce an abundant harvest of delicious fruit. Can't wait !

Of five canes only one took root and grew - and I suppose if you look at percentages, that isn't so bad, but it seems like it could have been better. Makes the price seem quite high for what I received. Still, there are never guarantees, hence my middle-of-the-road rating.

The raspberry starts are very slow to start. The directions for watering the new starts seemed questionable, I felt the need to water more than was recommended. Only 3 of the 5 starts have shown any sign of life after several weeks.

I was skeptical when the canes arrived in April. They were bareroot and didn't look very well. I put them in a bucket of water in my kitchen for 3 days and they perked right up. They have all grown into very healthy plants and are all flowering. I have covered them wilth netting so that I will actually get some of the berries. I figure I will get at least a pint this time around.

I ordered from a nursery and 2 of the 3 those plants were dead on arrival, the third doesn't look too good. These heritage raspberries I ordered from Gardeners Supply took off within DAYS of being planted and are extremely robust and healthy! Every one of the five plants have leafed out and are growing sturdy and strong, already sending out new canes too. I'm looking forward to harvesting next year! I am most pleased with my purchase from Gardeners Supply!

The step by step instructions were simple to follow and we look forward to the wonderful fall harvest and winter desserts.

I didn't plant these when I recieved them - I had to travel, so it was two weeks before I could plant them. I did keep them moist, as suggested in the instructions. When I planted them, I was sure that 2 of the 5 plants weren't going to make it. However, I followed the instructions and planted them in good starter soil. Within a week, I started seeing green leaves on all the plants. After 4 weeks, I have 5 VERY healthy, VERY happy plants. While it's too early to judge the fruit, I am VERY happy with the quality of the plants, the packaging, the instructions.

    Cons:
    Only two canes sprouted
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Heritage Red Raspberries, 5 Canes:

This is my first experience ordering from Gardener's Supply - only two of the five canes sprouted. Also, the instructions for planting stated that the canes should be planted just above the dirt line that was "clearly visible." The lines were NOT clearly visible, making the planting challenging.

Comments about Heritage Red Raspberries, 5 Canes:

I ordered the plants before I should have, they sat for over a week. The Berry area I started is still not completed BUT!!!! The Berries are growing wonderfully & my husband is as pleased as punch that he isn't spending a fortune on raspberries for his cereal! They have only just started ripening, that is more my fault than the plants. Considering I had my husband & my father in the hospital when the plants showed up & I did not tend them as well as I should have, they are still thriving, lots of berries coming very soon! Put it this way, I ordered an Ice cream maker to make some frozen Raspberry yogurt!
