Seed Tapes are the perfect, no-waste way to plant where space really counts — in containers, raised beds, or small gardens. Each strip of biodegradable paper is embedded with perfectly spaced seeds; simply unroll into a planting furrow and cover. Planting is precise, there's little or no thinning needed, and the germination rate is outstanding. Seed Tapes are made by Suttons Seeds, one of England's most trusted growers, and we're offering some of their most reliable and rewarding vegetable varieties.

2009 was a tough year for gardeners in the Northeast: cold, windy, plagued by rain and blight — not the best year to try a new product like these Seed Tapes in our test gardens. But, to our surprise, almost 100 percent of the seeds germinated. Popular with English gardeners for years, Seed Tapes have made believers of us.

  • Choice of Spring Onion (White Lisbon), Radish (French Breakfast), Carrot (Amsterdam Forcing 3), Chard (Leaf Beet), Lettuce (Webb's Wonderful), or Beet (Boltardy)
  • Seed tapes are a great way to plant small gardens
  • Also ideal for mid-season succession planting between rows
  • Seeds are evenly spaced and embedded in biodegradable paper tape
  • Three tapes per package, 16-1/2' total

The seed tapes are great! Will save me a lot of time and energy planting my carrots. I usually get to many seeds in the area, the carrots come up to thick, an I don't get a good harvest. We have a small raised garden, so the seed tapes will let me use less area to plant the carrots, an hopefully produce lots of yummy sweet carrots.

seeds were not a common variety that I can attest to. Radish was not round early belle and lettuce was a heading lettuce that may not produce before the summer heat. I expected a leaf lettuce like romane. I will wait and see for the outcome.

Comments about Seed Tape:

One of the few products from GS that I am unhappy with, especially the chard seed tape. The chard never germinated despite my adherence to the directions and the radishes which should be a snap to grow were wimpy and failed to thrive. I did a test with seeds versus tape and will stick with seeds. The tape sounded to be a great garden product but did not meet my expectations at all.

Comments about Seed Tape:

The seed tapes are easy to use, but if you get them damp beefore they're covered with soil, they fall apart, so be careful. Still waiting for the carrots to do something, but the beets and radishes are coming along nicely.

Comments about Seed Tape:

Very easy to plant but after weeks these still have not germinated.
And it has been wet and cool since planting.
If they germinate, I will definitely use this form of planting again.
If not, that's it for a good idea.

Comments about Seed Tape:

This is the first time I used the tapes. I bought both the beets and carrots. "Planting" was easy. They have not had time to germinate yet, but when they do, I know I will have less work thinning them out. Also that will decrease the chance of ruining the remaining seedlings.
