Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
great at keeping weed out of the veggie garden & at end of season can be tilled into the soil adding organic matter to the soil. It is hard to find this product anywhere everyone sells weed mats that last for 5 or more years & I do not want that for my veggie garden.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I put it down in the garden and the weeds have grown and puffed the matting up. I had to put logs and now grass clippings on top of it to keep the weeds from growing more. They come from everywhere. This is not a good weed control at all.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I use this paper weed mat in my vegetable and herb garden. It's a little bit awkward to roll out, cut and plant through, but what do you want???it's paper! It will blow away if dry and unanchored(I use leftover sections of fenceposts and pavers) and it does tear easily when wet so I limit walking on it until I apply a mulch over the top. I use various toppers depending what I have on hand and what section of the garden(fine bark mulch, grass clippings, straw). It works well once it's down, wet, and topped with mulch.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
great product
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I weeded my raised bed installed this with earth staples made an X slit in the mat and folded the corners under and stuck in plants. It is now one month later and no weeds. No tears. Its amazing and I will not have to weed this summer at all. Do not walk on the weed mat though it will tear. Put down some mulch and then you may be able to but do not walk on it. MUST HAVE for the lazy gardner or someone with better uses of time than weeding and ruining a perfect manicure ;)
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
If the wind blows at all in your area, this product is NOT for you! Mine was ruined within 2 or 3 days. I ended up getting a different product to keep the weeds out
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This works well as a weed-preventer in the garden. My only negative was that it is somewhat clumsy to roll out and cut to size.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Took some time to put in place since I installed this in a flower bed. Cut it in half so it wasn't so wide to reach across. So far, it has done exactly what I wanted it to do--prevent weeds. It was fragile to work with, however, if you take your time, it is well worth the time. Be sure that the dirt underneath is "loose" so that it is easy to make a circle in it with your trowel and drop the plant right in. I cannot say how biodegradable it is since this is the first time I used it. I am glad I have enough left over to use again next year. I would recommend this to people who want to take more time in planting and less time in weeding. Probably is worthy of 5 stars but I never rate anything as absolutely perfect (unless Harrison Ford would have installed it)
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
IT really works as advertised. The only weeds I have are around the outer edges were the matting stops.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I purchased this product for my garden to reduce weeds and help retain water! It is easy to use and terrific! I put a layer of mulch over top and have had very FEW weeds. The only weeds are the ones that come through any holes I accidentally made!! Well worth the money!
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This product was difficult to work with (bulky and heavy)and once placed in the garden it tears easily when wet defeating the purpose of keeping weeds from growing between the rows of plants. Would not purchase again.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This is the third year I've used the biodegradable weed mat & have been very satisfied with it overall in keeping weeds down to a minimum in my veggie garden. Don't try to put it down on a windy day & make sure it's anchored well, as it can blow away easily when it's dry. Soil staples aren't enough either. I use long metal posts lying on their side & overlap the edges with marsh hay.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Easy to put down, seems to be very sturdy. Since I don't have much turf for top clippings, I put down a layer of straw which will be dug in at the end of the season along with the weed block. No plastic and all post consumer recycled paper!!!! Great product.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I do not like to weed and this product keeps the weeds from growing.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
For many years we have used newspaper covered by straw as a mulch for our vegetable garden. That has worked well but was time-consuming to put down, section by section. This product is far easier - just unroll it! Because the paper tears easily when it's wet, we still had to cover it with a light layer of straw, to distribute our weight. So far, so good. We'll see how it holds up over the summer.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
For years we used a perforated black plastic to cover our two 4' x 8' gardens, here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We tried to paper mulch offered by Gardener's - but within 12 hours after cutting it and using the pins to anchor it over the garden surface, the paper pulled through the pins. This happened hours before rain arrived - which made the paper material even more flimsy. One section of the paper just blew away. Two others let go on one side and folded over on themselves. This paper material may work inside...but not where wind can get at it.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Easy to use and recommended by family
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This might be a good product if I could keep it down but it kept blowing away before I could add mulch(even with garden staples). Unless you have a lot of heavy rocks standing by, do not even bother.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This product is nothing more than heavy stiff butcher paper. It is not user friendly or plant friendly.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I installed this recently around my tomato plants. I found it difficult to neatly surround my plants with. And it took a while to get it installed. It's highly unattractive.
However, it seems to be holding moisture in the garden (which is my hope for it), and there aren't any weeds popping up under it yet.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I loved the idea of a biodegradable weed mat, but I have yet to figure out a way to keep it from shredding to pieces every time it gets wet & the Texas wind rips it way from the anchors.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I bought 3 rolls last year and loved it!!! Some hints to you gardeners out there who say it does not stay down....On top of my rows I slashed the sides every few inches so it would take the shape of my rows. (I did have compost underneath...) I then added a layer of hay/straw on top and this really helped with keeping the paper down and to keep the weeds out. Spray with water after adding the straw to start with moisture and helps keep everything down. Plus it helped retain moisture thru the season...it did compost well this winter and I will be ordering more. As it states, do not use in the rows-it does get a little slippery. Happy planting!
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Just put it down and cover with Mulch, Straw or Grass Clippings
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Fantastic. Not a weed in sight. After it is down and all planted, cover with straw, you will have no problems walking on it. Completly composted by summers end.
Will use again this year and in the future.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Used last summer, now early spring and it has totally degraded. Purchasing again this year. Yes, it does need to be secured down and you CAN'T walk on it as it rips easily. It did cut down on weeds and its safe!!
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Is effective in holding weed growth down. I anticipate it'll biodegrade into the garden soil and till in very easily in the spring.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
So far working well. I guess we'll se what happens as it degrades.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
The weed mat certainly keeps the majority of the weeds at bay. However, we mulched on top of the weed mat for esthetics and it was too much. It kept the soil much too wet. Perfect without the mulch.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I was excited to use this product in the hopes of eliminating a lot of weeding in my garden. I used earth staples to secure the mat but a wind storm came up and blew the mat out of my garden. My husband & I had to resecure it with some spare pieces of wood as weights. Did not hold up to walking on it as it ripped each step I took. Good concept but doesn't work for me & my garden.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used product in 2008, and tho it was fussy to install and deteriorated easily, it did the job of blocking weed growth better than its black competitors, and my garden did well. Trying it again in 2009.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used this in my vegetable garden to keep down weeds. It was a bit difficult to put down (I was the only one doing it) but it works great so far. No weeds and my plants are happy!
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I live in a windy area, even though I had the paper weighted down, it ripped up and blew away. If I lived in a place that wasnt as windy I would definately use this again - it is spendy though.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Used in Vegetable Garden and Flower Garden. Easy to use, very effective.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
EASY TO USE, BUT ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE ANCHORED WITH BRICKS, ROCKS, ETC. WE USED STAKES TEMPORARILY AND IT RAINED THEN DRIED OUT AND THE WIND PICKED IT UP AND BLEW IT AWAY. WE NOW HAVE BRICKS AND STRAW HOLDING IT DOWN. NOT SURE ABOUT THE WEED CONTROL YET, SINCE IT'S SO EARLY IN THE SEASON.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I use the biodegradable weed mat to keep weeds down in my raised bed vegetable garden. It is easy to cut to fit and slide under the bricks I used to create the raised bed. Towards the end of the season the mat does tend to tear or fray, but it is still very helpful with controlling weeds.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
It was hard to structure around plants. I used for a vegetable garden. It might work better in a large area.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used the ground mat in my vegetable garden. It's been great to stop the constant need to weed between plants. I wish I'd laid it before planting my tomatoes and squash plants, though. I think it would have been easier to cut holes in the mat, then dig the holes rather than piecing the mat around the plants already in the ground. It worked fine but I'll try it before planting next year.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I tried using earth staples with this and found the paper mulch would rip when paper was dry and we had a windy day. I weight it down with bricks and it has stayed in place nicely. I like the lines--they help keep my rows straight.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Tore very easy, wind kept getting it and riped when trying to ancor down....
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
For years, I have used newspaper as a weed mate for my garden. Now. there is a product that is much easier to use and can be tilled after the season is over. Since this is the 1st year I have used it, I will have to see how effective it is on weed control.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
we get a lot of wind so it will blow about a little at first, then it settles down and i love it.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This material is a GOOD weight but the guide lines are on the INSIDE which makes it difficult to unroll and lay FLAT. I would purchase again because it really holds up to the hard rains and gentle walking.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Used in my garden. eliminates, alot of weeding. Also keeps moisture in.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This does keep the weeds out. No plastic ever again. I’ve used it for 3 years now in my raised bed gardens. I just turn it into the soil the next season. I need to figure out a way to keep my cats from having fun crawling under it after bugs…lol
It really is best to lay it down when the ground is a bit moist and the wind isn’t blowing.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I use this in my veggie garden. It is such a good weed block and easy to apply. I like that is is gone by seasons end and can be tilled into the soil.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
prevent weeds
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used the product in my vegetable garden to prevent weeds. I also purchased the staples and they worked great. I am planting tomatoes and peppers and only had to cut a small hole for the plant.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used this for my vegatable garden but found that the wind blew it over the seedlings and damaged them, even though I anchored it down. It would break down when it got wet where the tomatoe frames were spiked in. Also the water evaporated before it could soak in through the paper.
I like the idea but it did not work for me.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
This is my first year for this product and am encouraged by the early results. It is relatively easy to apply, supresses weeds and has held up well in some very wet spring weather, plus all I have to do is till it in at year's end. I think this is the product I've been longing for - I love to garden but hate to weed.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Great stuff. Made a nice mat to spread mulch over.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I am using this product in a flower bed as well in my garden between the rows to keep the weeds down. It helps very much and I will be using it again.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
IN THE VEG. GARDEN WEEDING REDUCED BY 75%
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used this on my rows of tomatoes and peppers and squash, melons. Laid it out on top of row and secured with u-pins, make an X with a knife, plant the transplant. For the tomatoes, it stays in place nicely with my tomato ladders, but I also apply a thin layer of mulch which keeps it in place for other crops. I have not used it in paths.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
It started small early. At six weeks in that patch, no sign of a weed, and, of course, none anywhere else.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
Will try this product along with my regular non biodegradable (plasic woven fabric) one for my vegetable garden. The other type which is a heavy plastic fabric is used to block weeds in my whole garden during teh growing season. I bought the paper biodegradable type for a crop of brussles sprouts, as they need a couple of frosts to get to the best taste. At that time, regular plastic fabric mulches are hard to remove for the winter months. The paper type will remain so there is no need to pull it up in spring. Any paper barrier thats left can easily be tilled under in late spring.

Easy to use. The only equipment is a pair of scissors.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
It will not stay in place even with landscape stables. It is effective in keeping weeds under control.
Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I used this product to keep the weeds from my tomatoes and peppers. It's a good product as it's easy to apply and can be dug under after use for mulch.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
To save weeding, in past have used black plastic...but prefer something GREENER. First year use and so far, it works better than plastic. I like how water absorbs, yet weeds don't grow thru...my plants seem to be doing just fine on it but ask me again at end of season! Would recommend apply on non-windy day and have assistant!

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
I've used a variety of weed mats in the past and this one is by far the best I've found. It was easy to apply, has held up even when I walk on it. I've not had any weeds this season, and the ground has been staying nice and damp on hot dry days without extra watering. I will use this again next year for sure.

Comments about Biodegradable Weed Mat:
i was excited about this product because i could till it in at the end of the season - however this same property made it fall apart when wet if stepped on. Unfortunately we had a very wet season here and that kept me out of the garden. For this reason , i would not purchase this product again
