Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I have been growing backyard vegetables in the 3' x 3' Grow Bed for several years. I wanted to expand my growing space and the Grow Bed Extension Kit was just perfect. The only drawback to the plastic sides is that over time they bend a bit from the weight of the soil (mine sits on a slight incline). I had a hard time drilling holes for the connecting plates, but it was manageable. It's still a great value for the price.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

This is my third purchase. They are perfect for my small inner city house. They snap together very quickly. If you buy the extenders you do need a drill - since you have drill 4 holes. Not having one I traded some future vegetables with a neighbor. If I had more yard I'd buy more beds.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I have a big city pocket yard and these are perfect for making the best use of what little yard I have. The only con is that an electric drill is required to attach the extensions. I had to barter with a friend who has a drill to get it put together.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I now have four 3' x 6' grow beds ... 2 were made using the extension kits. First time I added the new extension kit, the bed was empty and it was a done in a jiffy. Second time I added the new extension kit, the bed was overflowing with strawberry plants ... and it was still done quickly! The U shaped metal piece provides the added support to prevent bulging sides. Great idea.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I wondered whether to order another 3 x 3 raised bed or the extension kit. Definitely get the extension kit. There are plates to connect the two together and a bar that goes under the dirt to keep the sides straight. Better than I thought it would be.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I've used the 3 x 3 bed for a couple of years with great satisfaction. When I saw the extension kit, I sent for one and assembled it with my husband. The center bar is definitely needed to keep it from bowing at the connection, and to assemble it single-handedly would be awkward. I've used it mostly for tomato plants with great success. I like that it will not decompose like lumber and that it does not visibly stand out in the corner of the yard (black). I would like for the corners and cover caps to seem more sturdy. However, they have held up for the past 3 years even though I had wondered if they would at assembly time.

Good product
By Garden GirlVerified Purchaser from Marlton, NJ on 5/28/2010
Pros:
Versatile
Cons:
Slightly awkward assembly
Best Uses:
Vegetable garden
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I assembled this product together with the Mini Grow Bed. Pre-drilled holes would be helpful and the metal "U" used to hold the middle of the bed together is slightly awkward to install since it has to be inserted from the bottom. However, once assembled, the product itself works well and is versatile in that you can put it anywhere.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I have a narrow space in my side yard that would not accommodate wider grow beds. The Mini-Grow Bed Extension Kit allowed me to configure the bed to exactly the width and length I needed. It is very important to me to use an eco-friendly product that does not deteriorate. It also was easy put together with the directions supplied. I couldn't be happier!

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I grow several plants in all sizes, from hydrangeas, to veggies, to lilacs and I cannot say enough about these raised beds. I love the fact that they are so easy to put up,easy to fill, to weed, if you have to(I use black mat to cover them so I don't have to)I had such a huge crop of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant last year! I also like that they keep my crops off the ground as I live in a very wet area, these have solved that problem for me. Everyone should try at least one. I guarantee you'll be buying more, Jennie

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I was really looking forward to extending my grow box ,but the assembly was kind of a pain. I would like this product much better if the holes were predrilled in the ends of the side panels. Once I started it wasn't real hard to assemble, but more time consuming then I had planned for. It looks nice once set up and filled ,I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I have the perfect south facing area for growing herbs and veggies, it's just not very wide. This growing bed is perfect for putting against the house and utilizing that long, but narrow strip of soil. Although when filled with soil, the sides of the bed bow a little, it doesn't detract from its function.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

Last summer I had one mini-grow bed. This summer I wanted more space. The choice was either a completely new min-bed (all that will fit on the side of our house) or an extension. I opted for saving money and bought to extension but I hadn't considered the geometry of the situation.

I had dig out the dirt so I could remove the bed to be able to attach the joining plates as one side of the bed was inches from the house.

I had to move the existing bed to the patio for a flat space to work.

Each step is relatively simple but when there are a dozen steps, adding the extension to an existing bed turns into a major project.

The extensions make the most sense if you are starting a new bed and know you want it longer from the beginning. If I add more space next year, I will splurge on a bed, not the extension.

Pros:
Attractive Design, Weather Resistant
Cons:
Flimsy
Best Uses:
Outdoor Plants
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

The grow bed and extension were simple to put together. I liked the black plastic material because I didn't want something that would rot, plus it is a lot lighter weight than wood. It was very easy to carry myself and reposition in the garden. I have mine filled with dirt but no plants yet and I've already gotten two compliments from neighbors asking where I got them.

A bit inconvenient to assemble
By New To GardeningVerified Purchaser from San Luis Obispo, CA on 5/4/2009
Pros:

Cons:
Difficult To Assemble
Best Uses:

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I used the extender kit to make one long grow bed. While I love the final product, the assembly process was a bit arduous and could be a lot more user friendly. As a Product Designer, I'm confident this kit could be redesigned to be both efficient and clever.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I was very pleased with my original grow bed, which I have used to grow both potatoes and tomatoes (in different years). I was delighted to find I could make it larger with the extension kit and will be growing my root vegetables in it this year. It expands my harvest which is a real bonus.

Love my Grow Bed Extension
By PlantpixieVerified Purchaser from Philadelphia, PA on 3/26/2009
Pros:
Convenience, Weather Resistant
Best Uses:
Vegetable gardening
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I've doubled my kitchen garden space from two 3X3 raised beds to two 3X6 beds easily with the raised bed extensions. My only complaint is that the design includes a metal support bar to be placed under the beds at their connecting side. This requires lifting both sides, a difficult task when one side is already an established bed filled with soil. Nonetheless, I look some liberty with the instructions and insead of placing the support bar under the beds, I placed it over the beds and it performs the same function just as well wihtout having to disturb the original bed. The only drawback is that I have a thin metal bar going across the center of the finished beds, but it's really not a problem. Overall, I love the product.

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I made two 3' x 6' raised beds without the braces provided in this package, and they are swayback from the pressure of the soil. I've installed this kit to create a third 3' x 6' bed and can already see it is holding up better. Will know more after spring planting!

Comments about Grow Bed Extension Kits:

I use the grow bed to grow my vegetable garden. The 3x6 foot on wasn't big enough so I added 2 extensions. Now with a 3x9 foot space I can grow every thing in one area. I can hardly wait for next spring to fill it up with veggies. The best thing about it is that it is not treated with any preservatives and will last for as long as I will ever need it.
