Solar Bells are based on time-tested glass garden cloches, but they're made of clear plastic instead of glass. That means they're portable, stackable, and much more affordable. And they're sturdy enough to protect against wind and pests as well as cold.

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

I can put plants into the garden much earlier, also after starting from seeds, I can plant in a biodegradible pot and keep the plants on my patio with solar bells to protect them from the cold until the ground warms up enough to go into the garden, then for extra transitional help for a week or two. Opening up the vents for daylight prevents overheating.

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

Wow, sorry to say disappointed in the durability of this product. Way over priced. These are nothing more than cheap light-weight plastic. Not even sure they will hold up for one season.[...] for the price paid they are just not worth it. I was hoping to have them last but I don't think they will hold up very well. :(

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

I bought these to replace cloches that I had bought from your company probably 15 years ago. They are cheesy and flimsy and won't work well without additional anchoring to hold them down. I was very disappointed and sorry that my originals were broken in 40 mph gusts

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

I use this to cover my seedlings out in the garden to keep them from nighttime insects and animals. Good to use in the daytime in the cooler times of year to protect from birds eating the new plants. They are surprisingly sturdy yet lightweight. They take a bit of storage space when not in use.

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

The concept of this product is very useful to protect garden plants as season extender. The only thing that could improve the solar bells is that they could be made of a more sturdy plastic. They are a little flimsy.

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

It is impossible to have great variety in your New England garden without some sort of season extender. These solar bells are perfect for the job. I get tomatoes a month earlier than my neighbors and enjoy them very much. They work just as well in containers as in rows in the garden. The only drawback is that you have to make sure they are in a reasonably cool place for storage so they do not distort. The tops melted some while in my shed over the summer. They were on an upper shelf and it got too hot. Luckily, they are not so expensive that replacing them is difficult.

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

I felt like I was in a potager garden when I covered my young tomato plants with these replicas of the glass cloches or bells used in European gardens. They are lightweight, but should hold up with normal use. There's handy holes in the bottom rim for sticks or staples to secure them to the soil. There's an adjustable ventilator at the top that's a nice feature as well. They are also more roomy than the other hot caps I had been using, and much more attractive than plastic milk jugs!

Comments about Solar Bells, Set of 3:

Cabbage worms and other pests were destroying my dino kale and broccoli plants until I found these Haxnicks cloches from Gardener's Supply.

Not only do these protect my brassica seedlings as well as floating row covers, they also LOOK BEAUTIFUL in my raised beds! And they are causing my kale and broccoli plants to thrive and grow better, as if they were in their own private greenhouses. The adjustable vent on top allows me to adjust the humidity and air levels inside the cloche.

I only wish that Gardener's Supply carried the full range of sizes that this product comes in across the pond in England. Haxnicks makes them in sizes from four-inch baby cloches to ones larger than these standard ones.

Be forewarned that these cloches will cause your tender vegetable crops to thrive.

These are an absolute must for anyone growing an ornamental kitchen garden!
