We're trying a parthenogenic approach to keeping squash borer away from our zucchini. These lightweight hoops are just right for our raised-bed garden, and we're hoping hard for a good zucchini crop this season. We'll also be using the poles for weather shielding early next spring--get a good start on early spring crops.

Comments about 59" Fiberglass Hoops, Set of 12:

I got a set of these for my 3 X 1.5 ft raised lettuce beds. They seemed flexible enough so I tried to use them in the 1.5 ft direction and three of them broke in half and shattered in less than six hours. I now have them arranged in the 3 ft direction and have not had any more casualties. They do wobble back and forth especially once the shade net is clipped to them and the wind is blowing so it has taken some toying with to get them to stay upright and not all falling toward the center. Not as good as I had hoped they would be but hopefully, they will do the job.

I purchased a set of these to use as row covers. They seemed like a great idea - you can store them flat and use them as hoops when needed. The problem: When I inserted them in the ground to make what I thought a nice hoop, 1 of the 3 snapped. I replaced the 1. The next day 3 of the 3 had snapped. I replaced them again and while I was in the garden working I heard another one snap. Now that I read the reviews I discover that you need to insert them at least 2 feet apart, but this makes for a pretty low to the ground hoop.[...] I will definitely continue to shop with Gardeners Supply Company but I won't purchase the hoops again.

These arrived just before an early frigid spell so I used them as season extenders for chard and spinach. Very easy to set up in raised beds. I had expected to have to insert them in PVC pipe but did not need to. Used clothespins to secure fabric to the hoops and that withstood some gusty winds. Bought these primarily to protect winter squash from squash vine borers but can't comment on success there til next summer!

I love these fiberglass hoops, and this was a second order for me, as I can just picture this being very useful whether used to hold up insect barrier, bird netting or polyfilm to create a tunnel for season extension.

I have tested this out and with their strength and flexibility, these hoops are allowing me to create a cold frame with a series of hoops placed lower holding up polyspun fabric, and a second higher layer over that of Tufflite IV plastic film. I am trying a smaller version of the season extenders used by Eliot Coleman.

Comments about 59" Fiberglass Hoops, Set of 12:

I purchased three sets of these to use with my various 3' deep raised veggie beds, and they arrived just in time for a near 100° heat wave. Paired with shade fabric, my garden breezed through with little to no effort on my part and nary a wilted plant in sight.

Installation/removal is a snap (just slip into place / pull out), and the green color blends without being hard to find.

To reach perfection, it would be nice if there were slightly longer version of these - my bushier veggies were just that little bit taller than the hoop height. They didn't seem to mind a couple of cramped days, but it might be an issue with longer spells under fabric.

Love these hoops, as I can use them with all kinds of cloths to cover rows from insects, birds or frost. However, my raised beds are 8' x 4', so they don't reach across as well as if they were longer. Will store easily, as they spring back into a straight rod when released from the ground.

I wish they were a little longer so they would create a slightly larger or higher canopy. But I staggered them to make the canopy deeper front to back, I just couldn't make it a little higher. Regardless, it does a great job with the shade net of protecting my lettuce from the harsh rays of summer. If you check the weather in Virginia for June into July of 2010 you will see constant temperatures above 90 and into 100+ on some days. The lettuce keeps growing even though it looks wilted or frail but it keeps going none the less. We just clipped some of the leaves for a salad tonight and after washing and rinsing you would never know how limp they looked just an hour before. The salad was great and without the supports and shade net we wouldn't have our own lettuce for dinner. I would recommend this product to others without hesitation.

Love these, I can put them in or take them down with ease, then drape whatever you need over them ie: Nets or Cloths to protect from Sun or Pests.
I have a self made raised box that is a bit longer and wider that most and it still worked great.

I need to cover my crops because the deer eat too much and the cats don't use good judgement regarding where to [*]. These hoops give me the option to cover with heavyweight frost cloth and lightweight summer cloth.

Comments about 59" Fiberglass Hoops, Set of 12:

These fiberglass hoops have come in real handy this year with the temps going up and down so drastically here in the northeast. I wasn't sure they would stay neatly in the raised bed but they went side to side and I could also shorten them up over particular plants.

Comments about 59" Fiberglass Hoops, Set of 12:

I have used these in my raised flower beds. I would like them better if there was a place to insert them in the sides of the beds. Because there is considerable tension on the hoops, they tend to draw in and disrupt plantings. Also when used to support a cover in high wind, they tend to tilt one way or the other. I wish they were not made in China, so that I could use them in vegetable beds.

I love the fiberglass hoops. They are great for using the row cover material to cover my plants. I have never had it so easy to cover my spring plantings. The hoops bend really easy and are sturdy enough to poke in the ground so they don't fall over. Thanks for this product.

Living on the eastern plains of Colorado, its never a sure bet that the weather will be warm and dry enough for planting when I want it to be. We've had hail, wind, snow and rain in the past 6 days, so these hoops are wonderful to use to support floating row cover or in my case, garden quilt to keep my garden plants free from wind damage and from frost. Buy these, you'll find a reason to use them.

I do not purchase products made in China due to the chemicals added to prodcuts. I refuse to use this in my organic garden since I have no idea what ingredients were used. Tried to return [...] I threw it away.
