Back by popular demand, these support hoops are customer and staff favorites. Made from two heavy-gauge wires joined by cross braces, they're easier to install than single hoops (no flopping!) and they support fabric, bird net and shade net better, too. Installed across a 3' bed, Super Hoops provide 14" headroom, plenty of room for new transplants and low-growing crops; High-Rise Super Hoops provide 43" headroom, enough for for most garden crops.

  • Protect plants from frost, heats or insects
  • Use with , , or , sold separately
  • Ideal for our 3' x 3' and 3' x 6' raised beds
  • Choice of two sizes
  • Set of 6 hoops

Comments about Super Hoops:

I bought a house this year and so I'm trying gardening for the first time. Since the house sits on nearly pure clay, raised gardening seemed like the best option. I spent a lot of $$$ on a raised bed and dirt for that bed and I wanted to make sure that insects or rabbits didn't eat all the plants. A covered garden seemed like a good solution and I figured I would need tall hoops to accommodate growth in bean plants and cucumber plants.

Well, first the plants have not grown as anticipated. I blame brutal weather and not the right dirt. But who knows? Maybe it's just the fault of an incompetent gardener.

In any case, the hoops are decent. They're probably best for a 3-foot wide bed, but they work ok for a 4-foot wide bed like the one I have.

You'll need pretty wide row covers to be able to fasten them on the sides.

The hoops are somewhat flimsy. In strong winds, expect them to bend and probably fall over.

They're not the most attractive things in the world. Not horrible, but certainly not an aesthetic enhancement to the garden.

In conclusion, I think they are decent for the price, but I think I'll probably remove them and just take my chances with insects and rabbits, using natural repellants like Neem oil if I have to.

Comments about Super Hoops:

This was exactly what I needed to protect my beans from the deer and rabbits! I have four raised bed gardens, of different sizes. A fence around the all of them would be difficult and unattractive. I need something that will protect each bed. I had a "home made" system for years. The problem with that was it was not tall enough and difficult to get to the beans. The super hoops are high enough to allow the beans to grow. I put netting over the entire system and secured it with clothes pins and a few landscaping pins. I can easily lift a section to thin the beans and weed. I added some plastic, yellow "ribbon" to make it visable. I can see where it would be useful for other vegatables.
They will also be easy to store when the garden is finished.
Great product. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Super Hoops:

These proved to be sturdy and yet easy to use. I used clothes pins to attach the cloth to the hoops, and it makes it very simple to remove the cloth and check the plants. They are good protection for the garden plants, and I don't worry about them falling.

i believe that i should have known that super hoops were just 2 regular hoops put together, they are not as sturdy with the center held together by small sleeve, you have to hold center together while you get the bend or they fall off into rocks.once you have them in place they work fine. i have extras and have no way to return them

I bought 4 sets of hoops. [...] Since I didn't have need for all the hoops at once and there were no instructions or inventory, I jury rigged the use of the first two sets. Enclosing the connectors for each set within the set's box and including a simple instruction sheet would have been helpful.

I use these super hoops in a client's gardens. She has had them for years. They are sturdier than the new ones. I thought the medal needed to be denser like the old ones. Comments about Super Hoops:

I like that the tall hoops can be used short or tall. it is a bit difficult to rebend them when changing the height or distance between the hoop ends. They would be a bit studier if they could be buried more deeply in the ground when in the tall position.
The main difficulty I had was that Gardeners Supply does not carry a wide enough light weight summer fabric to cover the width of my raised bed with tall hoops, I was able to get such a fabric from another source and the hoops and cloth look really neat - like a pioneer's wagon. I am using the system for tomato plants to keep out pests. I would like to have even taller and sturdier hoops that would work over mature tomato plants.

Comments about Super Hoops:

These are not suitable for high wind states like Colorado and probably Wyoming and other western states. The wind just flattens them and knocks them sideways. After three days of winds I gave up and took them out. Also when inserting them in the soil beware of pushing down on the crossbars- they break off very easily. Also the little connector pieces don't hold that tightly - they flip off easily and fly into the grass where they can't be found. All in all I was pretty disappointed in them and none of the information about them on the web tells that they come in two pieces with little joining tubes which are easy to lose.

I ordered the hoops several years ago and they fell into disuse at the back of my shed. Got new 4' wide raised beds this year, am concentrating on season extension and pest control so bought two more sets. At first I was concerned that, since they are designed to be used with 3' beds they would not be useful. Was able to stretch them by cutting 16-18" sections of narrow PVC tubing, sticking half of the pipe in the ground and then inserting the hoop tips into the exposed end of the tube. [...]

Comments about Super Hoops:

I bought two sets to use with my two 3x6 raised beds that I bought from Gardener's Supply last year. (Those black plastic raised beds are great, by the way!) The hoops installed easily and stayed put. I initially thought they were a bit too "bendy" but that makes it easier to adjust the arch. It might be nice if some sort of clips were included to attach your chosen covering. I made some wire hooks out of coat hangers. My use is with bird netting over my strawberries. The hoops keep the netting from getting tangled in the plants.

This is a great improvement over single wire hoops. No more trying to figure out how to keep them erect when the wind blows hard, like it does at my house. Comments about Super Hoops:

I am new to gardening and I have 3 new raised beds in my yard. In our area we have many wild animals that come to have tastes of my veg.
The pix in the catalog & on line look so pretty and useful. When this item arrived I was excited to put it to use. This is my first experience with garden hoops and maybe these are an improvement on others like them. I found it quite a challenge to set-up. I needed a helper to attach all the pieces together and place it in the raised bed. I am very disappointed with the way it looks and flimsy construction. Set up requires hooking lengths together with tiny metal links. The product is made to curve but bends very easily. The curve is not uniform like the pictures. It is very unattractive and makes my garden netting very visible because the curves are such a mess. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that both products- the high and low are exactly the same just with more links and pieces of metal.
It has turned out so unattractive that I only used it in one of my raised beds and I have the rest in my garage. Now I am looking for really tall bamboo to link together and put my netting over. It is much less visually intrusive.
I was really disappointed about this product.
It gets the job done but if you are looking to enjoy the visual impact of raised beds and you are an amateur this product is not for you

I was somewhat skeptical that these would work given they arrived horizontal and must be hand bent. That being said, they are light & flexible and easily bent into the proper shape. For importantly, they remain in place despite no buttressing from raised bed planks. The only drawback I can see would be the crescent shape that does not allow water to permeate the row covers..hence more monitoring & watering may be required.

Comments about Super Hoops:

I bought a set of six Super Hoops for my 4 x 8 raised bed so that I could protect my seedlings from our cold Seattle spring weather. I used some white polyspun fabric cloth to drape over it and secured it with some small clamps. It worked much better than the flexible tubing my husband tried to erect over the bed as the hoops set up quickly and sturdily and didn't keel over as the tubing had. The strong hoop wires withstood some very fierce winds, never moving, as you can drive the ends into the ground up to about 6 inches. The hoops will remain up as the vegetables grow, as they are about 3 1/2 feet off the ground at their peak. The fabric cloth will allow rain and sun to permeate and have the added advantage of keeping the bugs out. I highly recommend the Super Hoops!

Comments about Super Hoops:

I got the shorter hoops. I assumed (yes, I know) they would flex in the same way cattle panels do, and make that nice arch. They don't. They bend in the middle. They will still hold up the netting but if I had known this I would not have bought them.

Used to cover new plants in Garden to protect from cold, worked great. Should work great to protect plants from frost later in the yr. Kept the plant blanket up off the plants. Will order more later depending on plants at time frost is due.

Comments about Super Hoops:

I am very happy with the overall quality and usefullness of the hoops. But I found that the smaller size was not enough and the bigger were too much for my application. So I trimmed mine down a bit. But could you not just make a intermediate size?

Comments about Super Hoops:

These are the only hoops I've found that are at a decent height to accomodate taller vegetables. The double wires make it sturdy, but remains flexible. It's made so as not to rip or tear row covers. I'll be buying more of these.
