Customers spoke and we listened! The new and improved Revolution Planter is better than ever. We've added a new swivel hook on top for easier adjustments and a new moisture indicator to let you know when to water.

Growing tomatoes upside-down eliminates the need for weeding, staking or tying your plants and it's ideal for gardeners with limited space or limited mobility. Our Gardener’s Revolution™ Planter has a 1-gallon water reservoir on top, to make sure your plants get the moisture they need. The sturdy, enameled steel cage has a soft, woven-poly liner with a big 17-quart soil capacity.

When you’re ready to plant, simply fill the liner with our Organic Self-Watering Container Mix, add our All-Organic Tomato Fertilizer (both sold separately) and insert a tomato seedling through the bottom opening. Hang the planter in a convenient, sunny spot and before you know it, you’ll be harvesting your own sweet, juicy organic tomatoes. Even if you have a regular garden plot, we think you’ll find as we did that this revolutionary growing system is a fun way to get a picture-perfect harvest of delicious, homegrown tomatoes!

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

This is my second year with this planter. I did EXACTLY as instructed. I even bought the $150.00 plus holder that is now being used as a bird feeder. Everything was going great for about 3 weeks and then I noticed that the planter was no longer drinking the water. The soil was dry because I guess the water straps "got clogged." Again, I did everything that was asked of me and my beautiful healthy plants died. It was another year without tomatoes.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I used it for tomatos and zucchini. Got a good number of tomato's and two zuke's. The zuke's were just a test. The problem with this is the watering system. You need to manually water the plants and forget about the automatic capillary part as they get algaefied and become useless. Tomato's need a lot of water and nutrients. Also the fabric only lasted one year as it rotted at the top and tore very easily when I dismantled it. Not sure if they sell just the fabric or not.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The planter worked well, even the watering system which I had been concerned about from reading other reviews. The tomato plant looked great on my patio. Two things prevent me from giving a 5-star rating 1) moisture stick was useless and 2) tomatoes were good bit a bit on the small side. I will try to alleviate that by using a heartier variety instead of heirloom. All in all the upside down tomato plant was a fun experiment and I will try it again next summer.

Midway thru the second season, the fabric started rotting at the top. I had removed the dirt over the winter, so it wasn't from that. I fed and watered the tomato plant reguraly and two or three small tomatoes were the result. I bought one ofr my daughter and her's is rotting too. Next year, I'm going to cut a holein a gal bucket and use it. At least it will last longer and the watering system never worked right, so I'll continue to hand wate. Save your money with this product.

I was going to use these in my greenhouse for tomatoes, I wanted to have tomatoes year round. What I didn't realize is how heavy they are when filled, so I am still trying to figure out the safest ways to hang them in my greenhouse (and still have room). I was thrilled to realize that these are self-watering which is excellent for me! Easy to assemble and quality workmanship.

the watering system didn't work for me, either. I will try it again next year with holes drilled in reservoir. Only one of 4 happened to not dry out. I don't know what I did differently with that one. they all became a giant white fly farm, and I've never had that problem before.

the only reason I'm trying it again is because they were a big investment, and I don't want to waste it.

The water container and the felt strips got slimy and did not distribute the water well despite been cleaned weekly. The plants needed watering nearly every day to avoid blossom end rot. The watering indicator was not useful. I would not buy again. A cover of over the top to prevent evaporation would be very helpful. Not sure the bags will stand another year - while the old version plantars were reliably reusable.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I found this product was alittle hard to handle when you first hung it up and had to put the water container in- I would suggest having two people to do this.
I had to reinforce the shephard's hook, that I had it on, the container is very heavy when it is filled up with dirt and water in the container.- needs
    a good strong support hanger!!!!

I had problems with the felt filter, I had alot of Algea growing on it, I did have to change it a few times, because I had problems with the dirt drying out. The felt was in the water, and was wet along the sides, but underneath the cntainer, it was dry, not sure what was causing this to happened, but ended up,watering the old fashion way, with the watering container, and watering every day. I'm thinking next year, making small holes in the water container,so that the water can slowly seep into the dirt, instead of having to deal with the felt filter. The indicator stick, worked for a few weeks, but then stayed white, took it apart a few times, thought some dirt got stuck on it, but in a few days, showed white again, so I ended up sticking my finger in the soil, to see how moist the soil was, won't be using the indicator stick next year.
Otherwise, the tomatoe plant did grow, and produces some tomatoes, but this year, we had alot of rain, and not enough warm sunny weather, so things did not grow to well.

I will try again next year, but will try putting a few small holes in the water container, and forget about the indicator stick.

Let's just wait and see how things go next year.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I tried both the topsy-turvy and the revolution planters this year to see which worked better. With same soil, same location and same plants, the topsy turvy turned out larger plants and more tomatoes. On the revolution planter, the fabric container seemed to dry soil out faster. I did not find the moisture indicator to be accurate. The wicking watering system did not keep the soil adequately moist. I ended up drilling small holes in the water reservoir so water would trickle into the soil. With both planters it was tough to keep the soil moist enough to keep plants hydrated. This is just the nature of the beast and I much prefer planting tomotoes in a large pot. Had to water daily. Seems like a lot of work for the results.

Bought two of these for tomato plants. Directions were clear and it was easy to set up.
The watering system failed just a month after we set up the planters. We even replaced the wicking strips as directed, but finally gave up, pulled the bowls out and watered the soil directly. The container mix did not hold moisture well and our plants looked wilted most of the time. We live in a hot, windy area so a sheltered patio might have a different result.

I don't think the strips were working properly. I got some kind of white mildew around the buttom of the container. Don't know if I'll try this next year, especially since you need to buy the replacement. I can use it as a plant hanger since the stand is sturdy enough to hold planters. I would not recommend.

I've had problems with horn worms in the past. This year NONE. Not having to pick them off every day more than offsets doing manual daily watering. Discovered that the density of the dirt around the root ball must be the same as the new dirt added to the bag, in order for the water to be equally absorbed thru out. Next year I'm going to grow plants from seeds using your dirt.

I bought this for my Mother-in-law for Mother's Day, as she enjoys gardening and is very limited in space. I didn't realize she'd bought a simiilar item, so I was able to compare them myself. Gardener's was sturdier and had the self-watering feature (though she removed the dish, saying it kept the plant saturated). Since the one she bought was also brand new, we'll be able to see which model holds up to the test of time. In the meantime, I may get a couple for myself for next year.

Too sophisticated for an average gardener. I was extremely disappointed and will try to get a refund. All three capillary strips were used up before the fruit was even set on the vine. I followed all the directions to the letter and got flowers that fell off the vine, tiny misshapen fruit, wilted plants even though there was water in the bladder, the water indicator was useless since it said it was dry when it fact the soil was wet...???
The tomatoes I planted in the traditional way in (my garden in the soil)are fantastic. And I see other gardens with far less expensive upside-down planters than this product with great results. AND I CAN'T USE IT A SECOND SEASON WITHOUT BUYING ALL NEW SUPPLIES!!! Whack!

I purchased six of these this past Winter, planted them this Spring and have been using them this Summer. I'm to the point where I've decided I really wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The self-watering feature would be helpful, if only it worked well. It has been a constant struggle maintaining a balance between too wet and too dry. The past few weeks they have gotten to the point where I've only had to check them once per day but prior to that I was checking them twice per day, morning and evening. I've had two of my plants snap off during storms, while all of my plants on the ground were fine. Finally, tomato plants are just not adapted well to growing upside down. Next year, I will simply plant my tomatoes in the ground, and work with nature, rather than trying to "improve" upon nature (and in reality work against it).

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I think this planter would have been fine, if I was a seasoned gardener. However, I am not.
I found the directions not clear enough(I am a gardening moron). First, I didn't get that I had to wet the dirt,so I had to take it out and start over. Then, I wet the dirt too much. The directions don't say how much water until after that part of the directions, so I flooded the dirt with twice the water it needed.
I thought this would be a neat thing to have at my art studio; to pluck a tomato at lunch. However, it leaked all over the place, and made a mess after I left for the day. I am also in and out of my shop, so I was looking forward to not having to deal with constant watering,(My plants have to be independant(LOL))This is not the case, you do have to water on a regular basis. I would recommend people use it strictly outdoors, where it can leak, and also get watered with the rain as well. I also made the mistake of putting a full grown plant in this, so I really butchered my plants roots, so it never recovered(RIP). It can only have a seedling.
I have not given up on this gardening experiment. I will try it again next year. I only wrote this review, so others could benefit from my lack of gardening ability (AKA I am a Killer of Plants). I did find the product to be of good quality, and the light weight dirt is really needed, don't skimp on this when you buy it. Can you make it more attractive?

These revolutionary planters are great. They basically take care of themselves. They save space in the garden and look very attractive on a patio. The stand that you can get to go with them is sturdy and very attractive. The plants in them do so well and stay greener and produce more flowers or vegetables than when they are in a ground pot.

I have one of your planteds that waters from the bottom....I have beautiful tomatoes growing. ??

While it was tricky getting the seedling in the planter, I still like the product. It is far better than the flimsy ones sold on TV.
I did, however, abandon the strips used for slow watering and instead poked four smallish holes in the water bowl on top. Worked better that way. I live in an apartment and tried this product with Better Boy tomatoes. Wish I had bought more. I will next year.

I've tried that other more well known planter that you see in the TV commercials all the time. I will admit that that planter is good. Folks, the Revolution Planter is far superior. I especially like the self watering function of this planter. That other planter you have to water every day and after a years use it starts to fall apart. I do not think my Revolution Planters will fall apart anytime soon. Early next year I plan on ordering several more. I have also recommended this product to several of my friends.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I carefully read through all the reviews on this site, bought the recommended soil mix and patio tomato plants and carefully followed the instructions. At first all was well, and then my plants started to wither. I initially thought they had some sort of disease. No, they were just dry--- the self watering strips failed to wick water from the full plastic tub. I removed the plastic tubs and watered daily, but I guess it was too late. One plant is dead and the other produced a few fruit. This, combined with the birds delighting in such easy pickings from the hanging tomatoes, has resulted in not one single tomato for harvest this year. I did recommend this product to a friend back when I first got it, but I certainly cannot recommend it now.

We have had a great deal of satisfaction watching these plants grow and produce fruit in such a short period of time. We positioned the Revolution Planter on the sunny side of the house using a bracket next to a window. We have always had lots of green tomatoes in August because of the excess amount of shade in our yard due to maturing trees. Placing the baskets by the window gives easy access for watering, keeps pesky creatures away and allows for a great deal of sun. If sun doesn't come around to your plants, bring your plants to the sun! We've had some dreary days this summer and even with that, we have harvested some red tomatoes already! Lots of Fun!

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

Bought two of these in 2008. The capillary system stopped working in July. This year they recommend changing capillary strip monthly and give you three strips. I live in an area where my tomato season is 6 months, requiring me to buy more. My strips stay wet, water stays in retainer and doesn't go to plants. My tomato plants die once warm weather sets in. The strips are good for an average of two weeks not a month. They do not pay for themselves with the yield of tomatoes that I get.

I bought the Revolution planter on a lark. Am I glad I did! I chose a Park's Whopper seedling since they have always been reliable producers in my garden. Plus I had planted two others in the garden, so I was able to do a comparison. The seedlings were put into the garden two weeks before the Revolution planter. Right now, there are at least a dozen on the vine in the planter and I have already begun harvesting. Those in the ground have about half as many and are still about two weeks from being harvested! I am only sorry I didn't purchase more of them. I intend to get more next spring and try some of the heirlooms or other tomatoes that typically have lower yields in my Maryland garden (like San Marzano Redorta, Costoluto Fiorentino and Cherokee Purple. For now, though, I am perfectly happy with the single planter I own.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The instructions for the Gardner's Revolution Planter indicated the planter would be heavy. That was an understatement. We had to purchase a 10 foot post and cement it 2 feet into the ground to hang the planter. (We hung 2 planters) The tomato plants are growing but they are growing up, not hanging down. I have a few buds. I'm wondering how the limbs will support heavy tomatoes. Plants that I planted in the ground already have small tomatoes growing.
The watering system does not work effectively. You need to be tending the planters daily or they dry out. Time will tell if I get tomatoes and if this works or if I will use these again next year.

I purchased this for my parents because they have problems growing vegetables due to deer, rabbits, and other animals that share their garden. They have missed the unrivaled flavor of home grown tomatoes, so I purchased two of these as a gift. My Dad followed the instructions to a tee and is getting great results. Friends of their purchased similar products (from TV ads) and theirs are flimsy and unattractive. As always, the products that Gardener's Supply carries are of highest quality and durability,[...]I highly recommend the product and the company!

I really like the product..........easy to use, much more attractive than other models I have seen. I have tomatoes growing in this hanging gadget, other tomatoes in the ground. The hanging ones are still very tiny - about 1/10 the size of the ones in the ground - but they do have some tomatoes on them, which the ones in the ground do not. But! This has been about the worst gardening year I have seen (over 40 years of gardening!) Way too wet in Connecticut! So hard to rate the product - I can only say it's a great example of the concept, very well made, easy to use, and attractive. Time will tell about its usefulness, I don't think this is a fair year to judge!

I think the watering system is great in that I can fill it and be away for a few days without worrying about my plants drying up. I found it a little difficult to set up insofar as filling with planting soil and actually inserting the plant - probably because I was doing it alone. All in all, I think it's a great planter and so far my plants are doing well in it.

U have a great harvest coming up. I have four Revolution planters with different varieties of tomatoes. I found that mosquitoes were breeding on the top water reservoir so I took them all off and proceeded to water three times daily and the tomatoes are healthy and the plants seem happy. It seems to work as well as the capillaries which sometimes get clogged by the root system.
I think this is a great product but sometimes one needs to improvise a little. My only problem is that Opossoms seem to enjoy knocking down the green tomatoes. Any advice?

I thought it was a tad difficult putting tomatoes in the rather small opening, I had to make it hole a little bigger, but then again I ordered my tomatoes from an online store and they ship larger plants! Once in, they started to grow quickly and now I am admiring all my future tomatoes!

I tried (and still use) "topsy turvy" upside down planters as well, but yours are so much more professional looking. I recommend using bush or container tomatoes in the upside down planters as they seem to work better.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I have four tomato plants - 3 in the ground and 1 in the revolution planter. All are coming along nicely. I'm finding that I have to "fuss" more with the rev planter - taking the moisture strips in and out of the basket - to assure even watering. Also, the moisture stick does not seem to be accurate. It's either pure white or pure green, and not necessarily true to conditions. No tomatoes on any plants as yet, so I'm anxious to compare yield and quality. The jury's still out on whether I'm going to use this next year or not.

Looks way better than the other tomato hangers you see everywhere, and so much more durable. I may add a lid for the water reservoir to slow evaporation. Also I may add a clear plastic tent over the foliage next year and start mine earlier. Spring in Seattle is tough on tomatoes and tenting helps in the ground - should do the same here. It's a shame this product isn't made in the USA.

Last year I got more produce from this item and it was easy to maintain. I've increased the number from 5 to 8. I could put 16 in the space I've provided.
Right now in a space of 6'x6' I have 8 tomatoes, 2 shelves of cucumbers, a varity of herbs and I planted lettuce on top of the Revolution planter which doubles the use of the planter.
All that is left in my ground garden is zucini, some gourds, swiss chard, beans, potatoes and scallions.
I'm hoping that next year I will put more plants in my areial area.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I bought two Revolution planters for my dad for Father's Day after my husband made a couple of homemade planters for us. My parents were amazed to see the tomato plants growing upside down and to see how much faster the plants grow than they do in the ground. What's not to love? No staking or caging, no threat of rabbits getting to the tomatoes before you do, and no weeding! Mom and Dad are looking forward to harvesting their first tomatoes in a few weeks!

Next year, I'll grow all of my tomato plants upside down in Revolution planters. I'll have more garden space and won't have to drag the hose out to the garden daily since the self-watering containers takes care of the plants for several days.

I bought two products to grow tomatoes which are doing great. If you are growing big tomatoes, four feet from the ground is great space wise; if growing small tomatoes they will grow along the ground unless more height is given to the planter. Since this is the first time I am using these, I am pleased with how well they are built. I shall be able to use them next year too and hopefully longer.

I purchased four planters. Of the initial four tomato plants, only 1 lasted more than a few days.
I am on my second set of plants. The dry climate in Colorado make keeping the plants hydrated a challenge. I fill the water reservoir mornings and evenings. Water level is usually almost dry.
There should be a cover that goes over the water reservoir to cut down evaporation in dry climates.

This is my first one and so far it's working well. Have two Beef Steaks in it, and, despite some brown leaves from wind at the beginning, it's really starting to take off. Worry some when I feel the water reservoir is empty but then remember that there's a lot of water in the soil. So I don't panic and just refill. Think I'm going to like this product, even this early in the growing season.

I have more than one type of these hanging planters. I find this hanger to be much more attractive! Also, it is practical for the traveler, since it has the water reservoir. Because of the reservoir, I find that after the initial watering, this product does not continue to drip. The only negative that has happened is my tomato plant snapped off in the wind (the same thing happened with the other brand too). Now I bring my plants in and hang them if it is too windy outside. I find that it is easier to hang (anywhere) than the other brand, because of the hanger-style hook at the top. You must already have a hook mounted to hang the other brand! I would recommend this product over the other brand any day!!!

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

Have used an earlier version of product and this appears to be a much sturdier version, and with the stand that holds four of the upside down tomato containers, this is easier to hold the planters up with too. Additionally the integrated watering system makes it much easier to keep them consistently watered. I can't wait to taste the harvest later this summer from the four types of tomatoes we planted!

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

Last year, I purchased 4 planters along with the 4 arm support. [...] Now they are on our front deck facing south The one tomato I fianlly planted last year was a dud. Too late and too much shade. I planted 4 this year, but after heavy rains, 2 died. The others are going strong, though I found out it is true the capillary strips wear out. I had to scavenge one from one of the deceased planters and it's working fine. I'm waiting for the free replacements. The hardest part is getting plants into the containers. Next time, I plan to make a paper cone to put around the plants so they don't get stipped of leaves and I can use the planting pot.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The Gardener's Revolution planter has worked well with my tomato plants. We have had an abundance of rain lately and the tomato is a sun-loving plant, but never-the-less my plants are thriving in their hanging planters. Because the plant hangs upside down, excess water drips out of the planter and the resevoir will aid it during dry weather periods. It reduces the chance of disease such as blight as the air circulates around the plant better too.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I use the planters for tomatoes. Unfortunately I didn't know it was for determinate plants until AFTER I ordered them, because it didn't say so in the catalog. I had grown some plants from seed that were indeterminate. They're in the planters now. They seem to be working OK, but I had to find a way to hang them higher. So far they seem to be doing well. Another drawback is that they are very heavy. I had planned to hang them from the porch ceiling, but I quickly figured out that wouldn't work. I didn't want to pull my house down! Also, I can't get the self-watering part to work without taking the planter apart and soaking the wick every time. This is really a hassle with six plants! I decided that I'd be better off watering the plant myself. I like the concept of not having to stake the plants, though and not not having to deal with pests or fungal diseases from the ground. The concept is great, it just needs 'tweaking'.

(Whether I would recommend this to a friend or not, really depends on the friend. If they garden a lot and are patient, I would recommend it, but definitely not to a beginner!)

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I've used four of these for two summers now. They're a simple, relatively low maintenance way to grow tomatoes with a couple of caveats:

    1. Be sure to get very small tomato plants to transplant into them. A larger plant will be damaged when installing through the hole in the bottom.

    2. I've had the best success with these when I leave the top reservoir out completely, cover the soil with weed fabric to reduce evaporation and use a liter bottle with a watering spike to supplement water.

A true break-thru for gardening in tight confines. I set the metal Tomato Tree in the back yard and set out four tomatoes in the bags; the 'self-watering' strips are a bit difficult as they are small. Next design could have 4-5 perforated 'spikes that dripped water into the soil like the 'bottle' watering spikes; or the watering pan cutworm barriers. Also should do these w/ side holes for strawberries!

I have a tomato in one and a green pepper in the other. Both are doing great in a screened in pool patio deck in Florida. The self watering is allowing the plants to handle the June heat without any problem. I love the design and have bought these as presents for other family/friends and plan to purchase more for my own use.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

Putting this Revolution planter together and filling with dirt and a tomato plant are relatively easy, but getting the moisture-absorbing strips set correctly and figuring out how often to fill the reservoir is a bit more difficult. One ought not go longer than a few days without refilling the reservoir. A week is too long (if one has to be out of town). I still don't know if my plant has too much moisture for its own good, but it seems to be setting blossoms. Additionally I had to attach plastic screening to protect the dangling tomato plant from hungry deer-- perhaps you ought to sell that also (maybe you do and I just missed it). This is a much more substantial tomato planter than the ones offered on the infomercials on TV.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

I put my grape tomato plant in this about 6 weeks ago. The plant is growing really well and has little baby tomatoes on it the size of peas already. This is really fast for our northern climate. I have it hanging from a sunny corner of our house. It is heavy and you really need a second person to help you get the plant in, so one person can support the frame and the other person can position the plant, soil, water reservoir etc. BTW, the plant sort of "swoops" out to the sides. It does not grow straight down like any of the photos on the website or in the catalog. (Plants seek the sun, not the ground.)

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The Gardener's Revolution planter is far nicer looking than its widely-sold rival, the Topsy Turvy. It's also bigger and sturdier. But with that quality comes weight. The notes on the website mention this: believe it! When I tried to mount mine, I discovered that nothing I owned was sturdy enough to hold the planter without keeling over, so I had to get a special rig built. Now that everything is set up, the planter is functioning as advertised and my plants are enormous and thriving: I'm eagerly looking forward to the tomatoes.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The gallon containers at the top of the planters are a great idea, however, here in Florida we have a problem with algae. With the mixture of sun and moisture algae forms and quickly blocks the moisture strips from functioning effectively. A nice lid on each container to block the sun would be handy and greatly lessen the need to periodically clean the moisture strips and containers. Currently I am using tinfoil to cover the containers.
    Thank you!

I am looking forward to the first blossoms which will give me great hope for tomatoes. The plant went into a bit of shock after trying to squeeze it into the bottom hole which was possibly too small for the plant. Got a late start so I picked a bigger plant. Next year I'll start with a smaller plant. Love the easy care provided by the water indicator and swivel hook. Love it.

The tomato plants are doing their best to grow anti-gravity despite the upside-down planting. Hopefully once the fruit grows, it doesn't weigh down and snap the u-turned stem! The growing method is novel but the plant doesn't seem as happy as my more conventionally-potted patio tomatoes.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The Gardener's Revolution Planter seems to be working pretty well. We have two small tomatoes so far, where the other plants in our vegetable garden don't have any yet. When I purchased the planter, I completely underestimated the total weight of the product once it is filled with soil, a plant with fruit and water. It gets quite heavy. But over all it seems to be working just fine, and I possibly may purchase another for next season.

As a first time user of this type of planter, I do not have enough history to comment extensively. I have limited gardening space and this should make the most of a small area. We use this to plant hanging tomatoes in our vegetable garden. I looked at several of this type of hanging vegetable planter, and these are the most durable, most attractive, and well-designed.

Our plants are growing very well - they are healthier than those in the ground. Also, I like that next year I will not need to "rotate" the planters to another plant family -- just change out the dirt and plant tomatoes again!

THe only confusing thing is how to apply my granular organic fertilizer - I don't know if it will clog the capillary strips.

Seems to be working fine to this point. It has only been up for about 3 weeks. I planted some of the same kind of tomatoes in my regular garden and those are not a big as the ones in the hanging planter. Also, these have stayed free of the flea beetles that have shown up on the plants in the regular garden.

The directions for the moisture indicator really don't clearly indicate how it works, so those could be improved, It should mention something about as the paper gets wet, the green color of the stick will show through.

I am quite happy with this Revolutionary Planter. I just wish it came in a second version as well, i.e., 6-9 ports on the side for more plants in a single planter. Very attractive! I bought 4 as well as the powder coated stand. Very sturdy. I wouldn't mind having 2 or 3 complete sets!

I've used the "as seen on TV" planter for 4 or 5 seasons-they only last 2 before they must be replaced. The other big problem is excess water usage.

This is a superior product that looks to last for many years. The soil moisture indicator is a great idea. My only problem is needing to replace wick strips and moisture indicators several times during the growing season.

I am new to vegetable gardening and own a townhome so I do not have land to plant a garden. I wanted to grow tomatoes and have found that the Gardener's Revolution Planter is the perfect solution. It is hanging on my deck. After 4 weeks, the tomato plant has grown quite nicely. It is about to get flowers at this point. The reservoir makes it easy to water the plant and the moisture indicator prevents me from over watering. I do believe that I will have a successful season of tomato growing my first time out!

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

The Gardner's Revolution Planter provided a great solution for my lack of space to build a vegetable garden. More specifically, no available space with enough sunlight. The planters mounted easily to the side of my deck, providing a handy place to monitor the plant's health and growth. Also blended nicely with other hanging plants and the layout of the deck itself to become an aesthetically pleasant addition as well. They have worked wonderfully and my tomato plants are extremely healthy. One thing to watch is that the plants can't be braced as they can on the ground, and I lost two plants to some devastating spring wind storm, so started over. Disappointing, but not enough to negate the obvious benefits of the product.

It takes a lot of work to set up the planters (assembling planters, mixing soil, stuffing half of it in, inserting plant, inserting rest of soil without it falling out and while trying not to hurt the plant, inserting water strips just so, and finally lifting the extremely heavy planter onto hook). I thought my double shepherd's hook was sturdy enough but realized it was not and had to prop it up against the side of my house. My husband had to lift the planters for me (and I'm a strong 5'7" woman)! GS should offer a two hook stand besides the four. Don't think [$] (for two planters and soil mixes) [...] and all the effort is worth it.

It was difficult for me to plant and HANG it because of the size and weight. If the tomatoes produce abundantly than I can overlook these things. ....Anxious for a crop!!!!

I purchased this with some reservations. I planted a cherry tomato plant and hung it over the deck. I have had it for a month now and the plant is definitely doing well. It is growing down and then curving up, instead of straight down like the picture shows. It is doing well, producing flowers and the beginning of several tomatoes. On the bad side, the metal bars broke off one of my baby tomatoes. We have high winds here and the plant must have brushed against one of the bars and broke off.

    Comments about Gardener's Revolution™ Planter:

This product is much better than the "Topsy Turvy" upside down planters found everywhere from general retailers to garden stores. The cage is heavy gauge and should last through many seasons. The self-watering process works fine, but (as the instructions note) the water reservior should only be filled when the soil begins to get dry - otherwise, your plant will become waterlogged. Also, don't start your tomatoes too early since each plant must be pulled leaves first through the small hole in the bottom of the planter. If the plant is too big, you'll mangle it while transplanting.

Thank you for a great product. I also love the fact that they are re-useable...so the earth likes them too.

This is my second year with upside-down planters. Used Topsy-Turvy before. Your planters are roomier, which I like, but find it awkward having separate bags and cages. A one-piece unit would be easier for me. Had to cut the opening larger to get plants through without shredding them. Also, the self-watering feature drowned my plants in 2 days and they all died; had to be replaced. I took out the basins and will water them by hand. Have 3 tomatoes and 1 pepper hanging. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

The cons I list are not really "cons", but they are factors to consider when deciding to use this product. Unfortunately, these factors aren't really highlighted in the description of this item.

After reading another review regarding the type of soil used, I decided to go with the conatiner mix recommendation, and I am VERY glad I did (see my review of that product).

I didn't have any trouble assembling either planter, but did feel a bit intimidated at first. Now, reviewing the overall assembled design, I really understand how it all comes together and am impressed.

However, it might help the company to have even more details on the product, including pictures of it as it is being assembled. As many online shoppers know...the more pictures the better!

Overall, my plants seem to be growing well. I LOVE not having to worry about weeding, and knowing they're getting enough water...but not too much!!

This is a very well made, sturdy tomato planter. I only just got mine out (late start), but I am confident that I'll soon have tomatoes. I ordered the soil and fertilizer recommended also, the instructions were very clear, and my plant is getting plenty of water with the capillary strip feeding from the reservoir. The only problem with this planter is that you must use a very small tomato plant in order to get it through the hole at the bottom.

I purchased 2 planters and so far they are great. The tomato plants are already in bloom after only a couple of weeks and seem to be healthy and growing well. Initially the planters were heavy to hang and I needed help in placing them where I wanted them. I had purchased a shepherd's hook locally but the planters were too heavy for that particular shepherd's hook. I have them hanging from the cross bars of the clothesline poles. We have quite a bit of wind which whips the plants and often breaks them off at the ground. So far no breakage only healthy tomato plants. I have had many interesting comments about growing tomato plants upside down and lots of promises from people to check back for the harvest.

I am glad we got two so as to balance the two sided "shepherds" planter hook. They are very heavy so plan on a heavy duty hook. Also plan on supporting the hook (I had to use a fence post). It will take two people to load and hang the planter. I am not thrilled with the wick system of watering. The reservoir empties quickly as the water drips out the bottom along the plant stem.

I placed this in my garden in an empty corner. It was kind of fun putting it together and hoping it would be like the photograph. Possibly because I didn't use the "bush" variety of tomatoes, it just has not become all that I had hoped. In fact, my tomatoes in the garden are growing better and faster than the one hanging. Logic should have told me that the plant would not grow "right" upside down...remember chlorophyll and the plant cycle? Anyway, the tomato plant is turning itself upright now, and being that it has been less than a month that it has been planted, I'm not sure how it is going to grow. I should have read more reviews.

It might be a good idea to buy the Gardner's tomato hanger stand.

There are so many pros to this product: no wire baskets to prop plant, no slugs, better air circulation, ease of finding fruit. The only con: This is a heavy basket. You must have a strong structure to hold it. We sunk a treated 4x4 in the ground and screwed 2 rod iron arms into it to hold 2 baskets. With that said, these rock!

I bought two (my first ever) and followed the instructions very carefully (the second planter was easier to do). The first night after hanging up the planters we had a terrific storm and the new tomato plants hanging upside down looked pretty sad the next morning. But they survived and although it's too early to have tomatoes, the plants are doing great -- I had to see it to believe it!

It was a little difficult getting started. The first attempt, the planter wasn't hung securely and dropped, crushing my 1st tomato plant. Replanted and hung it on a shepard's hook. I almost didn't use the water strips and moisture indicator because I doubted they would really work. But THEY DO WORK. It's really an amazing process. And makes watering the plant a non-brainer! I'm a city girl that wants homegrown tomatoes. It's been a fun process. I'm excited to tried my tomatoes.

Best of all, the "critters" can't get to them.

We planted the tomatoe plants last weekend. They do not look well. Plants seemed to do well at first. The leaves are browning around the edges. The self watering strips drain all the water out of the water container in a matter of hours. The water drips out until it is all gone. It dries out pretty fast as the water drips out the bottom. Time will tell if it is a good product.

The construction of this is top notch and should last for years. I have seen the "as seen on TV" version of this product and there is no comparison. The wire frame and hanging components are sturdy. My tomatoes are thriving. I would highly recommend this product.
