There's room for three full-size tomato plants inside this oversize growing bag. It will yield a bounty of delicious, homegrown tomatoes at perfect picking height. Tomatoes grown in the Tomato Tree planter don’t need staking or tying, they're out of reach of most pests, and they won’t get soil-borne diseases. I like this tomato upside down stand. It is sturdier than the other ones that I was considering and it looks nice.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I planted my tomatoes in it. I don't like the green color.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Plants appear to be thriving, early in season but everything has been as advertised.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I originally bought one of these trees and after the first year I purchased more. I highly recommend this because the plants remain bugfree never worry about cutworms. The plants get strong and produce loads of veggies. Easy to assemble and it's a pleasure to pick and care for your plants at chest level. No more bending and crawling under plants to groom. Every year I replace the bags because they do become rotted by the end of the season. But the stand is super strong and never tips even with high windy storms.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Just got the tomatoe tree. It was easy to put together and I just put tomato plants in. Don't know yet how everything will grow and how hardy the tree will be over several seasons, but it looks fairly solid. It hasn't also gone through it's first good windstorm, but the amount of dirt the bag holds has certainly weighted down the tree enough so it should stay upright. I like it!

I purchased this item on the website: 38-161 Tomato Tree. I bought this item after reading reviews of the Topsy Turvy tree and not finding them solid. I read the details of this one and I thought it would be good. Much to my surprise and disappointmnet, when it arrived it was the Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree. NO WHERE ON THE SITE DOES IT SAY THAT WAS WHAT I WAS GETTING!!!!! If that is what I wanted, I'd have purchased it in a local store. I won't be purchasing from this dishonest company again.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
It's great for my small gardening space.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Due to health issues, I can no longer get down on the ground to tend tomato plants. The tomato tree solves that problem beautifully for me! I am growing an heirloom tomato for eating, a roma tomato for cooking and canning, and a celebrity tomato to withstand the heat down here in Texas. It was relatively easy to put together and insert the plants. The only negative issues I can foresee are storage (without taking it all apart) and obtaining a replacement bag when this one starts to break down.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Obviously (it is way too cold so far!) I haven't grown tomatoes with this yet, but the quality is fine, and I'm looking forward to easy to harvest tomatoes this year - I like the fact that it holds three plants at a time. I'm also planing to put a couple of basil plants in the top of the planter, too.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Stand is easy to assemble and strudy once set in place. Adjustable footing allows placement in uneven yard space. Large top access makes it easy to fill. Large plant grow opening makes it easy to work with. However it was just a little tricky to keep the soil in place during the filling process. How well it works will be realized once the first tomatoes are picked.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I am unable to garden the "old" way and this makes everything much easier for one disabled woman....I just water/fertilize and enjoy the fruits of little labor....:)))))))
Peace to ALL
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I think its great. Have not used this model yet, but have use smaller versions for several years and really like them. One problem was in assembling, there was NO way I could get the locking pin through the upper leg bracket. I had to go to my nut and bolt stash and find a bolt that would fit ( not really a problem).Other than that it was easy to assemble.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought this to put on my patio, and it was my first time to grow tomatoes upside down. I tried three varieties, they all did not grow as well as the ones in my garden. The wind broke one completely off. Also, the bag is flimsy, and it makes a mess when watering...all in all, a big disappointment for the money...don't buy it!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I have it located outside the kitchen, near the outdoor water bib; it gets mid-to-late afternoon shade, necessary for southern FL. I can rotate the top area so all 3 tomato plants get adequate sunlight. I am not sure how well it will hold the tomatoes once the fruit becomes heavy, I'll just have to wait and see. I will put sandbags on the base once foul weather comes, although it is heavy, hurricane winds can topple most anything.

Have my soil and tomato "tree" already to go! Just waiting for the danger of frost so I can get started!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
We planted our tomatoe tree March 13 and our "crop" numbers 33 small but beautiful tomatoes, most as large as a nickle and growing fast. We chose the cherry variety. The plants are covered with flowers and show potential for much more. We fertilized as directed but have needed no chemicals. In both size and vigor these plants are leaving our other tomatoes in their shade ! Can't wait for harvest.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This was a gift for me in the spring of 2009. The bag is flimsy and didn't handle the heat of the CA Central coast very well - found myself watering the tomatoes 2-3x/day in the summer heat, and even then, the plants struggled, unlike the plants I had in my raised planters - those thrived.I was able to repair the tears in the bag with some duct tape and get a second growing season out of it for 2010 - the yield is good and my husband connected it to our irrigation system, which helped with the constant watering. Tried to buy a new grow bag but Gardener's Supply no longer carries this product. Don't waste your money on it.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
The bag fell apart even before the season was over. I thought I could buy a replacement bag but doesn't exist so not a good deal at all. Poor quantity of tomatoes. Hate to say anything bad about Gardeners products because I am a long time customer and all the stuff I have purchased in the past has been outstanding.

Why is it not possible to buy bags for the tree planter? You have to buy the whole thing again to get a replacement bag! Ridiculous!

I am 70 yrs old with limited finances. To compare this with buying "Tomato Grow Bag" and it's assessories, it would have cost me about $153.00.
And that's growing only one plant.
With "Tomato Tree", it is about $57.00 growing 3 plants. I have an ideal place for it in front of my apt. where I don't have to move it until autumn.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I love mine! Here in Texas, I got TWO seasons out of it! But here's my favorite trick everyone.....take the top off and put your herbs there!!! I put parsley and a broccoli plant....yes, a broccoli plant on the top! The items you plant on the top help keep the soil moist too. And the roots from the top plants, didn't bother my tomato plants! Only mistake I made was planting my second season of tomatoes too late.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I purchased this product in July 2010. I was planning to use this for next years growing season. I am just a seasonal gardener, I also like to have thing that are simple to use. So I bought this product. I set up the stand and have let it stand on my patio. I have left the stand alone thinking that it would be ok. By November the bag has just fell apart, you touch it and the bag crumbles. These upside down planters may look great and work well for a season but the bags do not last. This type of product for its cost should last more than six months.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
The Tomato Tree was redesigned - a bit shorter - 6 feet to 5 feet. I actually think this was a great idea because it would be difficult to fill at 6 feet tall.
One of the keys is to read all the literature and follow the directions as to the planting medium recommended, fertilizer and watering (crucial.)
Assembly was easy enough and after the bag is filled with the soil mix, yes, it is very heavy and hard to move (which is not recommended.)
The plants grow briskly - I did an heirloom tomato, a cherry tomato, and a red pepper plant. The tomatoes took right off and growth is fast. You can place more than one tomato plant in each hole. Depending on the results, I may try this for the next go-round. I live in Tampa Bay so this is planting time for us. The next couple of months will tell all so this is why, at this time, I can only give it 4 stars.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I purchased this to keep animals from eating my tomatoes. I purchased it late in the season for next year. The catalogue product description indicated that it was about 6 feet high. When it arrived, there was a note enclosed saying that the product was redesigned and was now about 5 feet high. Now, I'm not sure it will work, since tomatoes will hang down to the ground. I called customer service - who couldn't have been nicer - and we agreed to try it and if it did not work I could send it back for a refund. Fair enough!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
The design of the legs is both attractive and clever, and the green powder coating looks pretty robust. Assembly was slightly confusing. There appeared to be a pin in the top vertical column that needed to be removed and discarded to get it to assemble correctly.
The green bags I find to be a garish and unattractive color. Here in AZ I don't think that one bag has the capacity to store water for even a single tomato plant for a day, let alone three plants - but I'll find that out next summer. I'm not fond of the styrofoam plugs in the bag, either.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is a great way to folllow the sun, so your tomatoes will get sun all day. Or as for us in Florida, you can move the stand not to get all day sun.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My hanging garden area is somewhat sheltered. Being able to place this in direct sun around the pool is great.
It appears it will last a couple years.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I am enjoying the fruits of this product.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought one of these last year and really like it; however, I didn't know to store it after the growing season, so the bag completely deteriorated, so I had to buy another one this year.
I recently bought another one for my brother for his birthday and am waiting for his response about it. I just know he will like it, too.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Once it is filled, it is difficult to move or reposition. I like it because it provides places for three plants instead of having three different hangers. I have bought another one for my sister and she loves it!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This was my second season with the Tomatoe Tree. I really enjoyed the results I got from it, and the compliments from friends and neighbors. Storage was a problem so I put a large waste bag
over it and tied the opening to the pole for the winter. worked great and I was able to get a second year out of my bag. Thinking of getting a second one.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought the Tomato Tree for a Father's Day present for my father, but he keeps it at my house as he is not able to keep it at his apartment. I have seen a lot of dead plants hanging from upside down planters as I drive around, so I really had my doubts about this, but got it for him as he had always wanted one.
The three plants we planted in the Tomato Tree have thrived and look beautiful. In no time at all we had lots of blossoms and little tomatoes forming. I had my own tomatoes planted in containers and the upside down plants quickly surpassed them. The instructions were very specific and easy to follow. I do think it is critical to follow the instructions, especially as to water and sun.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I hung 3 TT planters from metal bars inside an unused pet pen. They grew incredibly fast in lower Michigan. But I found that I had to water them constantly and if I forgot 1 day the plants would wilt to the point of dying. The plants got massive and tomatoes grew all over, but the tomatoes all had black rot on the bottom of them and were not edible. I was so disappointed after nursing the plants everyday. I don't think I will use the TT again. I think the constant watering washed the nutrients out of the soil and caused the tomatoes to all go bad. But without the watering the plants would have died. :(
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This year I am trying tomatoes, but next year, maybe another option to see the scope of use. This is a wonderful option for small spaces. I do not have a real garden space and utilize planters on the deck. The height of this unit makes taking care of the plants quite easy and keeps them away from hungry critters. The container, when full with container mix, is substantial and therefore must be positioned with care as it is not wise to try to move it to another spot. Planting directions for placement of plants, is not clear, so it is trial and error. There are instructions for watering and fertilizing the plants to provide for a successful harvest outcome. I forsee the addition of another unit, next year to try out other plants. According to packaging inserts, this unit can be used with other vegetables.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I like the idea of being able to grow more than one plant from the same container. It's a good height for a short person like me. The grow holes could be a little bigger to accomodate a 4" plant. It's hard getting a 4" plant into the grow hole, however, it is very forgiving when the dirt comes off. So far, I'm very pleased with the Tomato Tree, and I'm looking forward to the fruit of my labors.

I used this for one year and bag fell apart. Could not find a replacement for bag anyplace. So, I adapted a Topsy/Herb bag to replace big bag.
It appears to be working but replacement bags should be available instead of having to buy the whole set up

Comments about Tomato Tree:
this worked great for the summer that i bought this. but this year when i went to replant the tomatoes and set it up again, the bag crumbled upon touching it. it does not last from season to season even with proper storage as instructed, and there ARE NO REPLACEMENT BAGS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. you must buy the entire thing every year. RIP OFF!!!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I was thrilled with this last summer. It was an easy way to grow tomatoes and keep an eye on them from the kitchen. On the down side, when my three tomato plants became large, they needed to be watered everyday. The bag lasted for only that season and I cannot find replacements anywhere. I essentially paid [$] to grow 3 tomato plants.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I cannot use it this year because the bag rotted out in the first season and it is not possible to purchase a relacement bag.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
The bag did not last one season and I was unable to get replacement. This is a really good idea that the manufacturer did not think through.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This was so easy to put together, plant and use. I got a late start planting my tomatoes this year and am totally impressed with how much my plants have grown in just a short 4 weeks. These are by far the healthiest plants I have ever had and all with little effort on my part!!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
We have two tomato trees and we love them both, but the second one's bag did not last a full season. While Garden's Supply Company was great and replaced the bag for this year's season, I will be upset if one or both tear this year. Without the ability to order replacement parts on demand (or available within reason) this item becomes too expensive to continue to replace the entire tomato tree. I recommend this bag to friends regularly with the caution concerning bag replacement issues.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
After struggling with inserting the young plants, I noticed that the plastic material along the top edge was beginning to break down after about two weeks in the sun. It is now a nice duct tape black. I hope it survives one more season.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I used the Topsy Turvey Tomato planter when it was first introduced and really liked it. This one is an updated, improved model that is easier to use. The stand is a great addition that allows more flexibility as to where you put it, as well as being very sturdy. I love it!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
The product is exactly what they say it is easy to plant the tomatoes in and so far is working wonderful

Comments about Tomato Tree:
The bag rots out in one season and you can't get a replacement bag from Topsy Turvy or Garderner's Supply. I have a pole with legs and it's of no use right now. The whole thing is disappointing. Save your money.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
Worked great for one season. Had some problems with tomato rot on larger tomatoes. Worked great with grape tomatoes.
Bag didn't survive the removal of the soil at the end of the season. Bag becomes dried out and inflexible due to sun exposure. Not able to find replacement bags.
Very expensive considering only useable for one season.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
you cannot buy the bag without the stand
Comments about Tomato Tree:
the planter dried out even though I used a special mix. had to destroy the bag to get the plants out of it and it tore up badley . I can buy a lot of local tomatoes for what this item cost me.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
No where can I find new bags to order, or if the container part falls apart you cannot find replacement bags to order.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I hate these and even have a few left over from when i first bought a half-dozen. They're extremely difficult to get the plant into; one must futz around with a foam piece with a notch in it, get the seedling placed correctly, then hope and pray it doesn't fall out while you try to load the thing up with soil. I actually had to hang the thing on a broom pole that was straddled over two chairs in order to place the plant. I've given these a shot two years running now, and the tomatoes they produce are small and don't yield very much fruit (i've tried both determinate and indeterminate). Anyone buying these because they don't have a garden...stick with pots.

The idea is a really good one. However the bags fell apart after the first season of use. Also need to water on a twice a day schedule. Really need replacement bags, but cannot find any anywhere.

Our bags rotted too. I called the Topsy Turvey company, they replaced the bags for free, and the new ones are MUCH heavier. Will try again.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
The tomato tree is convenient and seems to grow the tomatoes well. However, the bag was completely rotten by the end of the summer (if you touched it with one finger the bag perforated). I do not see an option to purchase a replacement bag, which means if you want another season, you have to buy the whole thing over again. I will not be doing that.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
The concept is good, but the bag is inferior.I don't expect a bag to last more then one season. However, for [$] you should be able to buy a replacement bag for a reasonable price. The problem is that there are no replacement bags.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This worked well for early tomatoes but needed lots of water and the flavor was not as good as my in ground plants. I was able to gerry rig to use 2 years - holes tore but bag material held up. I had an earlier version. I plan to use the stand for hanging pots this year. Tomatoes will go back in the real earth with wall-o-water.
They did look good

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is a great idea. I grew cucumbers as well as tomatoes. However, bags rot too quickly and I have found nowhere including Gardeners Supply to get replacements. For the price, I think replacement bags should be provided to anyone who had purchased these.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
The tomato tree set up with no problem. The tomatoes and cukes grew well, but required frequent watering. The bags rotted out after only one year of use. So far, unable to locate replacement bags and if their of the same quality as the original, it will be a waste of time and money. Will try to modify a 5 gallon plastic pail to fit and see what happens.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
At insistence from my son, whose friends have these, I thought I would try it. Although late in season, we planted a cherry tomato, reg tomato, and yellow pepper. We had many tomato worms. Four months later the bag is cracking and falling apart, perhaps because of the extremely hot weather of so. calif. Reg tomatoes never fully ripened before splitting, yellow peppers are still growing, still small but turning red, cherry tomatoes are good and still growing.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
this was easy to set up and use, had the best tomato growing season yet, but was disappointed that the bag fell apart when I brought it in for the season. So far no luck finding a replacement bag. Not a value if it is a one use bag.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I purchased two of these trees with bags and was very pleased with how sturdy useful the design is, however my bags have both rotted clear through the first year of use and I don't see any informtion anywhere on how to purchase new bags. I hope the durability/design of the bags improves.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This would be an excellant way to grow tomatoes if the bag did not rot out after the first year. Also I can't see any where on the website where you can get new ones, but if their made of the same material as the old bags I would not buy this product. You should be able to use it for more than one summer!

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I like it because, unlike the tomato hanger-upper-thing, which I found too heavy for most hangers, this has it's own base and will hold three different plants, so I can plant a salad!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is my second review. So far i have harvested over a hundred tomato's. I did not prune the plants and i got all sizes and a lot of tomato's. You have to water the plant EVERY day. That is the only draw back. If you go away make sure someone waters them. Oh yes the tomato's are delicious all my friends are in agreement.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
[...]had no problems putting this together. The stand has screws or bolts that you can secure this to the ground that is a really nice feature. This will be a great addition to the topsy turvy tomato plants that I already have. I would recommend this to a friend.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Before I purchased this product, I had my tomato plants started in containers on my patio. Every day I had to clean up the mess that the chipmunks made from digging in them. With the tomato tree, that problem has been eliminated. It is a great product for the $, but it is sort of an eye sore. Once you have it put together, make sure it is in the spot you want it before filling it with soil. Mine is very heavy and impossible to move around.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is a good idea but doesn't really work well. I have gotten some tomatoes from it but the bag that holds the soil has ripped all around it. It is almost like dry rot from the sun. I had my husband hook up a drip line to it so I haven't had to worry about watering it and I like that it is on my deck, but the bag starting ripping about a month ago and I am just now starting to get tomatoes. So it doesn't stand up to time and sun.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is an excellent product! I just ordered another one since they are on sale. The Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes I planted are thriving and the Bush Early Girl's are doing well. I also planted a Mexibell that just started to show bell peppers. I started this late (sometime in early July), but I am very pleased with the results. I can't believe the negative reviews since this is my first stint at gardening.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I put a total of six plants two in each hole mixed varieties. I have dozens of tomatoes and all kinds of flowers. I think next week i will be harvesting them. Looks like i will have tomatoes till frost in October. Next year i will be buying two more to plant green peppers and Zuchinis. This is the real deal. The only problem is if you go away make sure you have someone water them. Wonder if there is a way to hook up some kind of watering bottle.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought this as a gift for my father who used to have a small vegetable garden and wanted to start again. Now he has the tomato tree on the deck and I hear it looks great and has held up well with all the wind and rain they have been having this summer. And when the tomatoes are ready for picking he won't have to bend down on his bad knees to get his bounty!

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This product is designed for the tomato plants to grow out of the side of bag.
This puts undo pressure on the stems from the weight of the plant.
A strong wind will damage and break the plant stems.
This product is an expensive waste of money.
I placed mine on the street with a "for free" sign on it.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I added this for comparison to my square foot garden grown tomatoes, which much outperformed the hanging variety. Plus, it just sucks up water and requires much more frequent watering.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Because soil-borne diseases can shorten the life of a tomato plant I am using this for the first time. It seems to be working. Not easy to determine need for water--must remove/lift top or water when plants wilt.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
So far so good. Tomatoes have never done well for me in Western Washington but we will see if this contraption helps. So far my plants have more tomatoes on them than I have ever seen in years past. I will have to report back at the end of the season.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Easy to assemble, very sturdy, and attractive as well. I also have a large in-ground vegetable garden. The tomato plants in this hanger are about six inches larger than those in the garden. I will probably purchase more next year. If one has limited space or no area for an in-ground garden, I would definitely recommend one or two of these. Very impressed!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This tomato tree is really great, the instuctions were very easy to follow and the assembly time was about 5 minutes! My tomatoes are growing big and strong and the stand allows me to place the tree where it will be shaded from the hot Florida afternoon sun! Looking forward to the fresh tomatoes. I purchased the organic soil and fertilizer also and the plants are really growing well!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
It is sturdy and looks great on my back patio. The anchors are holding up well in our windy area. My tomatoes seem to love it!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
The tomato tree is easily assembled and easily set up. Our tomato plants are growing rapidly, interspersed with pepper plants. All is well. Thank you.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I purchased this product to plant three different tomatoes. One is cherry tomatoes and I thought the tomatoe plant was too mature for this system (thinking the stem would break). Within three weeks we had four tomatoes growing and that little weight allowed the stem to bend downwards without breaking. Now if we can get some sun (it's rained for a month) I'm sure my plants will flourish.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
first try at "upside-down" tomatoes. plants are looking good, but they still want to grow upward. I'm waiting to see what happens when they set fruit.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought this for my mom who is 80 years old. It is perfect for her because she won't have to bend down and weed or water the tomatoes all summer long. Looks great with the three tomato plants growing in it.

My tomaotes seem to like this hanging planter, so we will see how they produce! [...] It goes together easily and has two feet to help stabilize it.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
All three tomato plants are growing well. The stand was easy to assemble and looks great on the patio.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My eight year old son, Charlie, and I, easily assembled and planted the tomato tree. Charlie chose to plant two varieties of tomatoes and peppers. Charlie, a budding chef, had wanted a garden for a long time but we live in the woods and the conditions are not ideal. We found a sunny spot for our tree and the vines took right away. Charlie was so excited to see instant success! It was thrilling to see a vine filled with peppers in two weeks time. The tomato tree has been a winning product for us.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
No tomatoes yet, but the plant is thriving.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I very little area for a vegetable garden. This was perfect to place in a sunny spot...I didn't have to dig up the lawn. No rabbits, squirrils or bugs eating the fruit. Off to a late start due to a rainy Spring but they are taking off now.
Love it, easy to plant and keep watered
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Bought the tomato tree as a novelty for my wife and daughter to grow tomatoes on the deck. Planted three different varieties in the planter and went on vacation for a week. When we came back they had grown over a foot and half and had started blossoming! If they keep up like they are we will have more tomatoes from three plants than I usually get from six. I used the moisture control soil and have only needed to water once between rain storms. I will post again after harvest starts, but I am thoroughly impressed right now.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
So far so good!!!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Love the self watering soil with the product
Tomatoes growing like crazy and no weeds (maintenance)
Visually appealing
Seems to be sturdy and should be useable for future years
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Easy to set up. Very sturdy hanger. Not sure if nylon reinforced plastic bag will last more than a few years. Probably could double up plants in each hole.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
this product is nice, very sturdy and the compact size fits well into my garden.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Because it's a container, it dries out faster. The lid design doesn't allow much water to enter. I was surprised to have to water my tomato plants after days and days of rain! Additionally, it was cumbersome to add water because of the lid design. However, my tomato plants are really thriving-so far so good!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My husband and I were going to purchase the four-way stand and three hanging tomato bags separately from Gardner's Suplly, but we were having an issue with the price. Then we saw this product. We decided to give it a try and so far everything is perfect. We put three tomato plants in it and all three are growing beautifully. The early bird tomatoes are already appearing and should be ready soon. The base is wider than the initial product information cited (I assumed that has been corrected by now), but that is better. We get quite a bit of wind and this has stayed true and strong. Because of the way its attached at the top it doesn't even swing around in the wind. The bright green is a bit of an eyesore, but that's minor in comparison to everything else it has going for it.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is our second season using the Tomato Tree. Last year we had cherry tomatoes in the tomato tree much earlier than from the plants in the garden. We thought it was because the roots were warmer and therefore helped stimulate earlier fruit with earlier maturity. Regardless, it's so much fun, and our granddaughters just love to pluck their own tomatoes from a "tree."
Comments about Tomato Tree:
good product for home use
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Our tomato is hanging on our patio and it is doing great. We now have buds in our three plaints. So far so good.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This product was so easy to put together. I purchased one this year to try it out. I will definitely be ordering more.

I love this product. I am giving my garden area a rest this year and growing tomatoes in this product is great. Along with the tomatoe fertilizer my plants are flourishing.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
It keeps the tomatoes out of the dirt and bugs. It is also useful for peppers.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I like the fact that this planter can hold more than just one plant. It also seems much more stable and durable than those advertised for $19.99 that only hold one plant.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Easy to put together. Perfect height.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is my first try at the "hanging" concept with tomatoes. I live in a Zone 3/4 location so tomatoes are really a test. The tree has been planted but it will be another month before I can see substantial growth.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
1st time user. Easy to plant & assemble.
Plants have been in it for 2 weeks and look happy so far.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
[...] Very easy to put together and will not blow over in the wind. In fact, I was going to give it away for mother's day but ended up keeping it for myself! You can plant other plants in addition to tomato and I planted green and red peppers. Each hole will hold two plants for a total of six per tree.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I planted 4 tomato plants in it & can't wait to see the results. They were planted 2 weeks ago and so far the plants look quite happy.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This tree keeps ground bugs and rabbits away from my plants .
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This tomato grower is great, my plants are healthy and hardy. It's early in the season, but I have several blooms. I want to get a couple more for other vegetables like cucumbers.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Was so excited to put it together and get started. It was easy to do and looks nice.
The only difference is the plants look quite weak compared to my potted tomato plants.....will wait the season.....

Comments about Tomato Tree:
These are every where now . This one was redesigned to be shorter and wider base for stability and is.. I still nailed to deck for extra stability so the dog does not make tomato soup. Set up was fairly easy...put the first bag of soil in to half fill it then wrap the tomato plant leaves and stems in a come of newspaper and slide them thru the hole then add the next bag of dirt
Comments about Tomato Tree:
It is ideal for me living in a RV park with a limited amount of space.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is the greatest thing ever invented. My tomatoes are doing well. The ease of assembly was a pleasant surprise. Cannot say enough good about this tomato tree.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I'm excited about the product. Would like to be able to move it more easily since I live in an area with a short growing season and often get frost in July. If tomatoes don't work out I will try other things.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Only three weeks into the growing season so it's a tad early to judge-- but my tomato plants are thriving. The tomato tree eliminates the need for tedious weeding and pests are staying away. It certainly has sparked a great deal of conversation around the neighborhood!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Works great on your patio,or deck.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I was using this tomato tree for 3 tomato plants. We had a windy night and 2 of the plants broke off. The longer plants had a hard time with the angle they needed to hang. I replaced them with smaller plants (you can put 2 plants in each opening, 6 total) so far so good. The stand is very stable, it has 2 adjustable feet to help stabalize it on an uneven surface like my deck.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
it is a nice product. I would like to see more instructions on the actual planting- how to get plants into the holes. Also expected the [plants to hang down but they are growing up out of the side holes. Will have to see how it goes when there is fruit.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I put this up on my balcony and am having great fun watching my tomatoes grow.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
It was easy to put together and plant in. I'm concerned that it will be too short and the plants will be all over the ground by fall. I'll post a full review then.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I purchased this as a gift for my husband - he always wants to be the first in the neighborhood to have a tomato in the garden. It sits on our patio and is full of blooms right now. He is looking forward to that first tomato!! A great husband pleaser!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I'm concerned about watering convenience.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Two weeks ago, we planted two tomato and one pepper plants in our new Tomato Tree, which is remarkably sturdy and secure. The plants look very healthy--dark green leaves--and we are eagerly awaiting their flowering. Simultaneously, we also planted some tomato and pepper plants in the "conventional" way, and we are looking forward to comparing the growing/ripening process of both plantings, - Our Tomato Tree looks very attractive in a sunny corner of our deck, and tending to the plants (so far only watering) is so much easier than tending the "ground dwelling" plants.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
It's early in the growing season and I just assembled the tomato tree. Right now I give it 4 stars for attractiveness and originality. I bought it PRIMARILY because of the originally described 74-inch height. The item was incorrectly described on the web and is actually 13 inches LOWER; add to this the location of the plants in the tomato bag (another 4-6 inches LOWER. If my tomato plants grow more than 4 feet in length (and they usually do) these will be easy prey for my hedgehog who is just waiting, rubbing his paws together to get at my garden, drooling at the sight of fresh tender leaves. I will update this at the end of the season or mid-way if the height issue presents itself and my hedgehog waddles away with my delicious tomatos!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I will be growing tomatos and herbs. It was so easy to put together (even for a girl). Everything fit perfectly. No blemishes in the product.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My husband wanted to grow tomatoes and neither of us are able to do the standard garden thing like tilling, weeding, watering and feeding, staking, etc.
The stand was very easy to construct. I'm a woman, not a youngster, and I did it all by myself. The plants are growing nicely, they are on our deck so accessable, and in full sun
but I withhold final judgement until I see tomatoes.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My first attempt at growing tomatoes. So far so good. The plants are growing fast...no blooms yet. I am concerned about keeping them watered as it gets warmer and we are gone for a few days. Going to try to "rig" something up that will give me a drip system of some kind. I am optimistic though and having fun with the project.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought this because I have tried to grow a vegetable garden only to have everthing eaten by the rabbits. This was a perfect solution for me and I have it on my deck where I can watch it everyday. One of the tomato plants has 2 flowers already and I can't wait to have fresh tomatoes this summer.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
better design than the original tomato tree allows for easier access to plants and lower center of gravity provides a more stable planter in high winds!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I shopped a long time for a tomato tree that would look attractive on my patio and settled on this one. It was a bit of a disappointment with regard to appearance AND the dimensions were actually different from what was advertised, as communicated in a note to me. Also, the picture makes the metal look black, which was what I wanted, instead of ugly green, which is what I got.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought this for my mother-in-law for a gift and she loves it as she doesn't have sun enough in her garden to grow tomatoes. She put this in her driveway which does get sun. She remarked that it is very heavy which I interpreted to mean well-constructed.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is a great product. Very easy to put together and it has a great height. Easy to maintain plants. Love it!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This thing, once filled with soil (30 qt) is substantial in size and weight, so be sure to put it where you want it before you fill it. You can carefully rotate the top occasionally if you have directional sun. I was afraid that the plants would break from their own weight, but foam collars hold the soil in and cushion the main stems. I can already tell that I will have more tomatoes than I have ever gotten trying to grow them in the ground. No fungus, no deer. Sturdy enough to use for many seasons with with care.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My yard is heavily shaded by trees. I was therefore limited to where I could plant a garden and receive adequate sunlight. The tomato tree solved all my problems. I can plant a variety of plants (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant) in a compact area of my choice. Just make sure you find that ideal location before filling it with soil. It is impossible to move once full.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I bought this Tomato Tree for my boyfriend and he's got several plants in it... They're doing well, and it seems to be a lot easier to take care of than if he'd planted the plants in the ground. He's got it up on his patio, so he doesn't have to go far to take care of it. Can't wait to help him reap the benefits! My mouth's already watering for the BLT's we'll have this summer! *L*
Comments about Tomato Tree:
The tomato tree was a better bargain than the single upside down unit with the optional hanger. It also has the capability of adding more plants. I recently moved into a townhouse and a garden was out of the question. These trees fit perfectly into my available space and could be moved to where the best available sunlight was. My neighbors were curious about them and found them unobtrusive to our development's landscape. I'll let you know how sucessfully they produce fruit but so far the plants have grown very well.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
We have two plants in each of the three holes. Hoping for a large crop!
Comments about Tomato Tree:
easy to use and to maintain the plants. It is pleasing to look at and sturdy
Comments about Tomato Tree:
trying to grow tomato's/vegetable plant within easy reach and off the ground so far so good keeping fingers crossed
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My husband and I put two of the tomatoe trees together just three weeks ago, and already the plants are the size of what you see in the picture on your web site. We planted three ramapo tomato plants (native to NJ)and three cherry tomatoe plants. All three of the cherry tomatoe plants are showing tomatoes already and there are flowers all over the ramapos. The trees are at the side of our back yard. Watering/feeding very convenient. Really very little maintenance involved aside from pinching off the suckers. A real pleasure to be getting such fabulous results in such a short period of time. They are quite attractive in a yard setting. Our yard gets approximately 6 hours of full sun a day. We water every day and feed often. Planted them in moisture control potting soil. I highly recommend using these. A real time and lower back saver.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Looks good I'll know better when the tomatoes grow
Comments about Tomato Tree:
I just put it up so it is too early to tell
Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is first time purchase/use. Directions were great, just read them. I hoping that with tomato plants this device does as advertised. So far so good. I hoping for great results.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
My wife love's it! She's the master gardner so all is right with the world.
Comments about Tomato Tree:
Perfect height for planting and watering. Very sturdy planter. Am using for patio tomatoes and cucumbers.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I have very little space for a garden. I was able to put squash and cucumbers in my planters, along with many tomatoes. Rather than put the plastic cover on, I planted lettuce in the top of my containers.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This product has been very succesful. i've gotten unbelievable results! I ordered this from topsytree.com and if you add ten more dollors to your purchase you get a two year warranty and 3 more holes added to your topsy tree. I HAVE A TOTAL OF 6 HOLES! i planted yellow tomatotoes, cherry tomatoes, king size tomatoes, green chilli peppers, strawberries, and eggplants in all of them. My peppers were a remarkable success. I've already harvested 24 of them. i started planting them in the beggining of last month and i already have 6 cherry tomatoes fully grown, but not ripened yet. I have two baby egglants already grown and 6 more eggplant blossums. My strawberries are really sweet but i don't get too many of them in good condition cause the buggs eat them all. But what i do is add a cup of water soluble fertilizer once a week and then water my plants atleast a gallon a day. The water soluble fertilizer helps the peppers the most. I would reccomend it to anyone who's trying to grow peppers. Its auctually good for any kind of vegetable. but the thing that isn't so great about this product is the size. I think it really needs to be taller cause my tomaoto vines grow really fast and they almost touch the ground. BuT other wise the topsy tree is still amazing. Me and my mom harvest 6-12 peppers every week and when she cooks with them her food jusT has a very srong pepper scent and it tastes really good. You can't get organic vegetables like these in stores. i'M ONLY 14 AND I'M THE KIND OF GIRL WHO LIKES TO HANG OUT AT THE MALL AND SOCIALIZE AND YET I WAS ABLE TO GROW ALL THIS BY MYSELF IN THE TOPSY TREE. I'm not much of a gardener and this has been the first time i've auctually grown something.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is my second review. I planted 2 tomato plants in each of the 3 holes as directed and so far all 6 tomato plants are thriving very well - they are over a foot in height. Planter is easy to water with the spiral hose that I have (Very lightweight for women). Due to the rainy weather in NYC I only water once every couple of days. Also this stand did not even move with all of the recent windy weather we have had - so new stand design is good. I'll do another review when I get some tomatoes.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
The tomato tree was easy to set up and easy to plant. The tomatoes are growing and budding much faster than a traditionally transplanted tomato plant would normally have grown. It is fun to watch and everyone is really curious. Easy to water and any overwatering drains out. Not necessary to water every day like other types of container planted tomatoes.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I purchased this product for use this year and so far it has been great. I live in a second story condo so my entire garden consists of various containers. My tomatoes int he tomato tree look fantastic and are growing and setting fruit quicker than the ones I have in self watering containers. The main drawback to this product is the drainage. With the drain holes on the bottom, water was draining out too quickly. I taped over them and things seem to be working better now. I live in a hot climate and have problems getting enough water to my plants so this may be better adapted to cooler, wetter climates.
Though I haven't had a problem with my tomato plant reaching the ground yet, this product is shorter than I expected and I wouldn't be surprised if this happened soon.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is a great way to grow tomatoes from our deck outside the kitchen, for easy access and use. The planter is good looking, easy to assemble, sturdy, and working well. I'm about to order another for my grandkids. They love, love, love tomatoes and want to grow some "just like Nana." Doesn't get better than that.

I researched this item all over the internet and decided to purchase it from [@] because I also wanted to use the correct soil in this container. I ordered this with the Tomato Success Kit and so far my new plants seem to really be taking off. Can't wait to see how many tomatoes I get this year! Great web site!

Comments about Tomato Tree:
This is a great product they just need to add one more extension for a little more height. The tomatoes grow very fast and set quickly, no problems with disease. Unit is too close to the ground they should offer a extension as add on if needed because the tomatoes want to root in the ground after they reach it quite quickly I might add. This is the best product I have seen on the market for beginers or old gardeners like me. Very easy to assemble and watch grow.

Comments about Tomato Tree:
I have had this for two years with no luck. Difficult to water as it has the plastic sectioned lid (never fit well). 2nd year I took off the plastic and I could water it, but the tomato plants were diseased. It was hard to heft up a watering can to water it. I am going to ask for a refund.
