If you have a really big tomato crop this year, will your plant supports be able to handle the load? Our exclusive Tomato Ladders are the sturdiest you can buy, because they’re made with 7mm steel uprights — 20% thicker than others on the market! They’ll last season after season too, thanks to a weatherproof powder coating. Best of all, our Tomato Ladders are better for your plants. The rounded-V shape protects plants from wind and accidental breakage. The seven cradle-shaped cross-members give multiple places for vines to rest, and make it easy to set the ladders into the ground. Tomato Ladders will make the most of your garden space, reduce pests and disease, and give you a bigger harvest of juicy, unblemished fruit — guaranteed!

  • Ladders hold a huge harvest — over 100 pounds
  • Ladders cradle fruit-laden vines more effectively than stakes
  • V-shaped design protects each plant's main stem
  • Ladders nest for compact off-season storage
  • Add our new to support your tallest tomatoes

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

I am using the tomato ladders in my garden for my tomato plants. They are definitely sturdy and with the long feet they stay put! I also love the red color! It adds a nice design element to the garden when the plants are young. My only suggestion would be to make them a bit taller. I know from experience these will not be tall enough for my tomato plants, however, they would work nicely for squash, eggplant or even pole beans. Next time I will try the stacking tomato ladders. I am happy with my purchase, and anticipate the quality product lasting many years.

I've built my own tomato ladders.
I've purchased the traditional "circle" tomato cages.
And then I got serious.
Yep - they are pricy, but this is my 2nd batch of ordering these tomato ladders. They hold up to Arizona's punishing sun, and strong Monsoon season. And they easily help to produce the most prolific tomato plants I've grown.

These ladders are GREAT! I have collected quite a few and just bought 3 more this year. They are well-made and very durable. They are a great investment - they "nest" easily for winter storage and the ones I've had for 5+ years look just as good as the new additions.
I can plant 2-3 plants per ladder and because everything goes vertical, it makes great use of the space. The ladders are so sturdy, they support as many plants as I run up them.
Great product!

The narrow width helps train young plants sooner and the open design makes it easier to reach ripe fruit. I love that these are taller than standard tomato cages! The sturdy design made the ladders easier to push into the ground and because of the narrow width I have more room in my garden. I'll be buying another set of these!

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

In the ad there is much made of the red color and its benefit for tomato plants. So, since I own and like the green ladders, I thought I would try the red. I have no idea if the red actually makes a difference to the plants; this was a great tomato year, not just for me, but for everyone in my area. But by the end of the first season the red ladders had faded to a coral shade. The green ones, some of which are three years old, have never faded. I don't know if tomato plants like coral; I don't think that research has been done!

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

I usually plant in containers because the sunniest spot in my backyard is on the concrete area next to my garage, but I bought one plant that was too large for any of my containers. I had an empty spot in one of my planting beds so I planted it there. I realized that I would need something to support the plant, but the spot was too narrow for the traditional tomato cage. I ordered a set of these ladders and they arrived in plenty of time for me to install it while my plant was still small. I was slightly concerned because I wasn't sure my plant would get adequate sunlight where it was planted. Well the plant flourished and the tomato ladder kept the growth nice and straight. I had to use some velcro ties to secure some of the branches to the ladder, but that was easy to do. My plant reached over 6 ft high and produced loads of tomatoes. I could have used the extension but I made due without it. I will definitely use these next season for tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and more.

I love these ladders because they have many uses. I have a very large hibiscus that needs support, but I primarily use them for my dahlias. I only plant a dozen or so dahlias each year and stakes never seemed to work that well. These are great and hold the dahlias upright during late summer storms. I'm getting more, although I agree with the poster who said we used to get more for the price. Also, I wish these would go on sale once in a while....hint, hint!

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

I ordered a set of the Red Tomato Ladders for my garden plot in a community garden. I was anxious to try the red ladders since I heard that I would have redder tomatoes through the summer.
The ladders work great, they are compact and took up much less space than the traditional tomato wire supports. I'm disappointed though that they've practically faded to a light pink color during this one growing season. There's no doubt that I'll use them again next season, but if I expect them to produce redder tomatoes, I'll have to figure out a safe paint to repaint them with first.

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

Our tomato vines are now reaching 15+ feet in length and still growing. Hence the con that these are small in size. Perhaps that's just us and that con should be taken with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, these things work great. We planted 14 plants of different varieties. The plants didn't start crawling all over creation when they got too large; they just started weaving in amonst themselves. The result is a huge, but fairly well contained, mountain of tomato plants. I would definitely recommend them.

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

This is a very heavy-duty tomato support, suitable for determinant varieties. I haven't tried the add-on that makes it taller, but it seems to me if it's any taller it will tend to fall over unless it's set in heavy soil.

The narrow design is both a plus and a minus. It makes it easy to put up, especially if you've waited till the plants are a little big. They also store in a small space. However, when the plants get big, large branches tend to break as they droop over the sides, so you really have to stay on top of keeping them tied up with velcro or other plant ties, or pruned back.

Had been hoping for a new tomato solution after being done with the old cages from previous years. Several friends and neighbors use the ladders and recommended them. We were late in purchasing and our tomatoes were already well established, however the cages still held them up great and we can see an improvement already in several of the plants in their growth and production. We have a very small garden patch, so these are also particularly great for maximizing our space. Looking forward to buying a few more next year and having these for years to come!

The tomato ladders and easy to use, sturdy, and attractive. I think I need to also say "fun" because it is fun to help the tomatoes grow into them. I bought 6 and a couple of weeks later I bought 6 more. They cost a lot, but if they last for many years they will be worth it. Time will tell.

I'm using these in my first square foot garden and have found out that unless you are very vigilent and remove all the suckers from the plants that they become too big and you have to use tomato ties or the branches flop outside of the ladder. Next year I'm going to plant 18" apart instead of 12".

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

These garden ladders are the heavy duty tomato supports I have been seeking for years. I have bought so many of the flimsier cages that fall apart after 2 or 3 years--these are more expensive initially, but they are strong and built to last, so I believe they will save me money in the long run. They provide excellent support for the plants with very little effort on my part.

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

The tomato ladders are attractive, very sturdy, and able to consolidate the tomato plants into less space. The ladders keep the plants up off the ground and they grow very well up and through the ladder spaces. I do find the ladders a bit expensive, though. If one has many tomato plants the cost of the set of three ladders could cost a considerable amount of money. Even though they are expensive they are sturdy. They have the sturdiest construction I have seen. Many tomato cages are so flimsy. With the sturdy construction they should last for many seasons, so in the long run, they should be well worth the initial price. It would be nice to see the ladders also sold as a single unit, as well as the set of three. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to others and would most likely purchase more in the future. I purchased the ladders for my husband for Father's Day. He, too, is pleased with them. He loves tomatoes and enjoys seeing how well his plants grow up and through the ladders.

i was torn between the cages and this product as i hate tomatoes (long story, read my other review) but i like growing 5 heirloom varieties each year. the cages are def better for tomatoes, however - these are awesome. we ended up having enough cages so my dad used this for the corn. don't laugh. they are tall and beautifully constructed. he tied string around them, for three levels, and put the corn in between as they were too heavy and lopping to one side. aesthetically, they are pretty in the yard. i don't even think i'll use them for tomatoes. probably something else. yes, they are pricey but they are reallllllly tall and very strong. they blend in (i wanted the red but i thought the green would go better in my yard). my dad, an avid tomato grower for over 40 years, loves this product. guess what he's getting for xmas

I was surprised and pleased with the sturdiness of these ladders. I was going to use one for each of my tomato plants (as seen in the catalog photo), but unlike the tomato cages that captures the plant all around, I needed two to support only one plant and as the package comes with 3, I used the remainder to support an eggplant, so far so good.

Ive looked at these for many years and decided to try them out for expanding the tomatoes this season. In a side by side comparison to my big cages the tower plants are bigger, taller and have a deeper green. Both are the same plants and were planted at the same time. As always it's nice to see products that work as they are supposed to.

We unboxed these the day they arrived and set them in the garden amongst our tiny tomato plants. In a few short weeks the tomatoes have shot up and outside of having to tuck a few branches here and there, we haven't had to do anything other than watch them grow up the ladder. I will be buying more.

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

I have purchased this item in the past, and the ladders that were purchased first had the same heavy duty cross brackets the entire length of the ladder, not just at the bottom. I was extremely disappointed in this change, as while it did not make the ladder "flimsy", it did make it weaker and one of the thin brackets did break a weld when I was putting it in the ground. The ladders were better before, and this change was unnecessary. It reduced a great product to simply a good product.

I bought similiar style for Mandevilla. Didn't think it would work for tomatoes. I was so wrong. They are far more supportive and easier to use than cages. Also great for cucumbers, beans, peppers, and of course work great for any vining plant. AND because of the slimmmer profile of these supports they make it far easier to get around inside your garden. We had a huge storm the other night, they didn't budge but the cages right next to them did. Can't believe I waited so long to try them.

These are great tomato supports, heavy duty and durable enough to really hold the plants up for maximum health and fruit production. I declined to buy the ladder extensions when the GS customer service rep offered them to me, but I really think most people will want them. Suggestion: Isn't it better to just make these ladders 18"-36" taller so the extensions aren't needed? Anyway, these are much better than flimsier wire cages sold at most gardening stores!

These look really nice in the garden. I only got them this year so I don' yet know how they stand up to heavy loads, but I am well satisfied with the height so far of the ladder w/o the extension (I am trying out 1 w/o the extensions & 2 with the extensions).

I chose green so I would be able to tell at a glance if tomatos were ripe - I thought that the red color might have distracted from that. Also the green, from a distance, blends into the landscaping much better.

I love the design of these ladders, but I can't see them holding a heavy load of tomatoes. I am using them for clematis vines, and to hold a saucer-style hummingbird feeder. I hesitated at first about ordering these tomato ladders, because of the price, but it is definitely money well spent! The tomatoes are thriving, after just two weeks, and no more using single pole stakes and recycling my pantyhose as ties! Good thing, now that I am retired...

The ladders are very well made and sturdy. Good thing too, because my Huskies love stealing tomatoes right off the vine -- they think they are balls! Though I normally only grow plum tomatoes, in my little ghetto garden, I elected to plant a cherry tomato once again. I am curious to see how the "ladder" handles it. The last time I planted one, it was like out of a Sci-fi movie -- the plant took over the garden and grew like a weed! Had enough cherry tomatoes to feed the neighborhood.

I put the extensions in a couple of weeks ago but have just put the ladders in yesterday. they were very easy to connect to the extensions and I can only hope my tomato plants grow as high as the ladders. The ladders are sturdy looking and are a definite improvement over the tomato stacks I ahve used in the past.

I can't think of anything I don't love about these tomato ladders ! Tomatoes are also easy to tie up with these ladders. If I anticipate a really large plant I will actually use a ladder on each side and then tie the ladders together with velcro ties. You will NOT be disappointed in these ladders.

I purchased these ladders after wooden stakes and standard metal tomato cages wouldn't support my plants. I just put these in the ground so we'll see how they hold up throughout the season. I wish I purchased the tomato ladder extensions with the actual ladders. I think my plants might outgrow the ladders. Fingers crossed!

I love the way "the ladders" look and the great color - RED, love it. I didn't really get a chance to use them with my tomatoes (already planted in containers), but I used them for supporting my tall flowers (Texas Star, Angel Wing Begonia). If the flowers get above the ladders,I'll just add the extension! I believe if used on big tomato bushes it would take all three of the ladders. I was expecting wider, but next year will try the set I have on the tomatoes and bell peppers. I love the way they fit together and are sturdy enough to hold up the vines. Always was looking for heavier supports for the vegetables, but I CAN RECOMMEND THEM FLOWER SUPPORTS. lOOK GREAT IN THE YARD.

I have never been happy with support for my vegtables until this year when I tried the "ladders"
I just stuck them in and the tomatoes just were supported.
The first one that I used was put beside a plant that I just put in the dirt. It was just falling over and looked sick. I put the ladder beside it and it just stood up. I told my husband that I swore the tomatoe plant smiled. I really couldn't believe it worked so easily and well.

I bought these 3 summers ago and they have held up extremely well. I have 5 of the tall red and 5 of the shorter length in green. They must have sold in sets of 5 when I bought them. The red ones have faded to orange and one of them has taken on a slight bent curve toward the top, but they are still attractive and VERY sturdy! I will never go back to the traditional tomato cage after having used these. They never topple over even during high winds or when loaded with big tomatoes. They allow me to space my plants closer together too. I use the tall ones for tomatoes and the short ones to support my pepper plants. I think these are a must have in every veggie garden.

Comments about Tomato Ladders, Set of 3:

I was looking for a sturdy stake system for my earthboxes for a long time--these work great! I had been worried they might topple over as my boxes are part of a roof garden and can get slammed by the wind. We've had two storms since I put them up and they're still as straight as the day I put them in. I also love, love, love not having to use ties; no more pockets full of random pieces of cloth, etc. and it makes for an easier clean up in the fall (straight into the compost without having to search for ties).
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they are a bit short for indeterminate tomatoes. I know they sell an 'extender' piece, but as a young gardener on a tight budget it bugs me that you have to buy something else for the product to work right. I can't afford the extenders and shipping so I just put a single taller stake in the corner of the ladder and plan to tie any plants that reach over the ladder to the stake. It will work, but it's less attractive and perhaps more to the point, slightly irritating.

I never did mind paying a little more for items from Gardener's supply because they were high quality items that were unique. This is not the case anymore. I'm a Botany teacher who has many of these ladders. In the past, you received 5 ladders for the cataloge price. Now, you only get 3 ladders. To make matters worse, the cross brackets are remarkably smaller gage wire ... not the 7mm advertized. To reduce the number of ladders and make them flimsier is unforgivable Gardener's Supply. Shame on You!

I have used tomato and pepper ladders for about 5 years and I purchased another set this year! Most winters, my ladders have remained outside but the finish has not deteriorated - they still look new. The ladders are great for small gardening areas like mine in that they keep the tomato plants upright and provide good support. On occasion, I've had to anchor the ladders to the sides of my raised beds to support larger plants.

I have 25 of the tall ladders for tomatoes and 20 of the shorter ladders for peppers and eggplant. These are great for containing the massive growth of my tomatoes and for holding up the heavy fruit. I just ordered the extensions for my tallest cherry tomatoes and I'm looking forward to using them this summer, as some of my plants did outgrow the regular supports. I have noticed slight rusting where the coating has been nicked, but it's not that big of a deal. I stack and store these over the rafters in my shed during winter. When my tomato lust subsides and I no longer grow 30 varieties, I will probably use these supports for peas or summer squash.

I purchased more tomato ladders after trying out several different supports for my tomato plants last year. The tomato ladders won out over square cages, conical cages, and stakes that were used with mixed results to support over 20 tomato plants. The tomatoes grew comfortably within the ladders and it was easy to tie unruly branches to sections of the ladder as needed. Plus the ladders looked neat and attractive in my vegetable garden, which is in my front yard!

These tomato ladders can be used without tying the vines to them, but I tie them. I prune the plants and get large beautiful tomatoes.

They are sturdy, easy to put up and take down without tools, easy to store.

Con: I have several ladders that the weld has come loose. One is peeling and rusting. I have 21 ladders. I add a few each year.

I have had people ask me about them and I tell them I got the ladders at Gardener's Supply and give them a catalog.

The color that was left dulled. And I spent a lot of time placing velcro ties to hold up my plant. This year I will use it in my garden only if I don't have enough cage supports. They are not worth the money.

I thought these worked fairly well. I've used them now for 2 or 3 years. One thing I have found is that they rust very easily. Although the powder coat does help, it doesn't make the product last forever. I do make a point of taking them out of the ground at the end of the season and storing them in a garage. In addition, I still must use velcro gardening ties to support the branches.

I would only consider buying more if they were on sale. They're much too expensive for the overall durability.

Interesting use for rebar supports....maybe i'll check out a construction supply house and spray the powder coat on myself!

Would only recommend these ladders in a flower garden where you need a growing trellis. I think the colors would be great for a flower garden not to mention having a neat trellis for creepers. As my tomatoes grew straight up the limbs kept getting caught underneath the "steps" of the ladder and it was pulling them down causing several to break. Still think the metal cages work better. I've even used metal cages upside down so I could use the metal spikes that are supposed to go into the ground to help support the heaviest of limbs as my plants grow. I can bend the spikes any way I want to.

I saw these in your catolog and knew they would be great for my candelabra euphorbia which is 8 ft high. I am also using it for my Schefflera which has become very large, but I wish it were a bit wider.

I was disappointed because these are small. They're strong and will probably last for years. After a summer of use on them they hardly look worse for the wear but even so. I knew the height and was still wishing for something taller because of the price but when I got it they aren't very wide, Tomato plants can get so huge and there's only so much weaving through the supports that you can do. Too expensive for what you get in my opinion.

I had my first garden this year and was excited to grow tomatoes. I bought these because I like things that I only have to buy once and will last for years. These will probably fit that definition and are very sturdy but even tho they're taller than a lot of tomato supports they aren't tall enough. Even more than that they should be wider. If you picture a triangle the two sides are 7 inches each and the third invisible side is 6 inches..... not very much if your tomato plant spreads out 2-3 feet. If I had known the size for the price I wouldn't have bought them.

I have been using wire tomato supports which would eventually tip/lean over with large sprawling plants, esp in windy weather. I used these IN ADDITION to my wire cages and the plants were less likely to tip/lean over. I would not recommend them as the only support to use with healthy large tomato plants but they are better than bamboo or metal stakes with wire cages.

I didn't find anything at all wrong with this
product. With the planting season over, and now thinking about next growing season to come, I decided that another set of 3 would suit our small garden nicely. These ladders are extremely sturdy, and each one held a large heavy vine laden with lots of big tomatoes. I was very pleased with my purchase, and thought that the price was equal to the quality of the item.
I am looking forward to next seasons crop. Oh,
also, absolutely GREAT for cucumbers too. We had our cucumbers planted next to our tomatoes, and the vines grew up into the ladders which held not only the tomatoes, but the cukes too.

I live in an area with gravel soil. While the soil is very fertile and has great drainage, it is very, very rocky. Rocks the size of softballs are not uncommon. Most of the wire cages you commonly find are very difficult to shove into the soil without bending them because of the stones. These tomato ladders were very sturdy. They were easy to install. I did use a rubber mallet to gently pound them into the ground. They stayed in place all summer with large tomato plants on them. I was very pleased with their performance and have purchased six more for use next summer. I would recommend them to anyone who asks.

My tomato plants grew very tall with this product. I didn't purchase them until after my plants were planted and growing well so I had to be careful not to affect the roots when I put in the ladders. I had some problems with one of the three ladders tilting over, but I believe that was because they went in after the plants were growing for a while. I can't wait to use them again next year. Great product. Exactly what I needed for my small vegetable garden. Will definitely be purchasing more as I expand it next year. Primarily bought for tomato plants, but used them successfully with cucumbers and squash as well. Small enough to not be an eyesore but tall enough to do the job. I can definitely recommend.

I can't believe I ever raised tomatoes without these ladders. Every plant is heavy with ripening fruit yet these ladders hold the plants straight and tall. Now I can easily see and pick each tomato when it's ready, and each fruit gets more sunlight because the ladders eliminate droopy stems. Next year I'm buying the extensions because my plants grow much taller on these ladders. Another bonus - my tomato garden is visible from the street and these ladders are a big improvement over the jury-rigged contraptions I've used over the years. Other neighborhood gardeners have actually complimented me!

I have about 40 heirloom tomato plants in my garden this year and every year I experiment with supports. I have tried cages, a "ladder support" from another company, spirals, etc. and these are by far the best. This year about 1/3 of my tomatos are supported by these and as my budget allows in up coming seasons all my tomatos will eventually be supported by these.

This is my second summer of using the Tomato Ladders. What a great product, as it is strong, durable, good looking, and helps support my tomato plants. We grow our own hybrid tomatoes in whiskey barrels. I can fit 4 plants in each barrel. Get the extensions if you are going to buy the ladders. Our plants were above the top of the ladder + extension - that's 6-1/2 feet tall - by the middle of July! We are having a very cool summer and everyone else is complaining that their tomatoes aren't growing. Our plants produce vines with 14-16 tomatoes on each vine, these ladders are working well and gently support the fruit. Also having good luck with the reusable plant ties (velcro tape). I will be buying more for next year! Our garden is the envy of the neighborhood.

7/24/09: These tomato ladders were an addition to a set of five purchased previously for use this year. I live in Maine, and with all the rain we've had in June and July, the garden is very slow to get started. HOWEVER, the tomato plants do have blossoms now, and the ladders are doing a great job of keeping them upright. "Time will tell" what happens IF the blossoms turn into tomatoes (yellow--yummy).

Used these in my small raised bed vegetable garden. I got the red because the green was out of stock. I am very happy with them. The red brightens the garden and looks so cute. They help to keep the tomatoe plants from touching each other which causes plant diseases to spread. So far my tomatoe plants look healthy. I bought 2 sets (6) and will be coming back next year for more, as I usually grow 8 tomatoes and 4 cucumber plants. (I grow the cukes off the ground also in wire cages because I have had problems with soil disease - yellow and wilting leaves).
