I now have 5 Success Tubs and I love them! I grow mostly tomatoes but, I have successfully grown many peppers and eggplants. This year I'm adding cucumbers. I always use the red plastic held in place with elastic. I have found that it works for me to purchase the replacement kits for a fresh start every year. I harvest many more tomatoes than trying to re-use last years soil.

My husband does not care for fresh tomatoes but does enjoy them when cooked so I plant my tomatoes in the success kit. Two plants provide plenty of tomatoes for me to have fresh eating and more than enough for freezing for cooking. I plant them in late APR (I am zone 5) and keep them in the garage overnight. We have a heater in the garage. Warm days I wheel them outside for the day. Get a real jump on the season.

The replenish kit is the perfect "soil" for the self-watering planter, as it's fluffy enough to pull up the water from the reservoire. Although the kit comes with the organic fertilizer, I've purchased a larger quantity of it last year to use on my other plants because it's a dependable fertilizer. The only caveat is that, although the replenishing kit came with additional red plastic mulch in the past, this year it didn't. I find that the red mulch works great at least to keep the squirrels from digging up the soil, and to keep the soil from drying up fast.

They didn't make it clear in the product description, especially for long-term customers such as myself, that the red mulch is no longer included in the kit. I don't know if the red mulch actually improves yield but I do like the way it prevents evaporation, especially during dryer weather. If I had understood that the mulch was no longer included in the kit, I would have ordered it separately at order time. Now that I have found out too late, I am forced to order again and a) purchase more of the product than I may need [...]I am very dissatisfied with the way this was handled. They should have made this clear in the product description. I can get the other parts of the replenishment kit anywhere but the mulch was the reason I continued to buy it from Gardeners Supply.

Bought a second set of three tomato planters two years ago to get the "improved" version (and they are), after two years with other iteration. This replenishment kit is useful, although a little expensive. This is the fifth set of three replenishment kit I have bought. This year they decided to omit the red plastic mulch, which I find a silly economy. A smaller size of the fertilizer or sheets of plastic sized to fit the planters would be more useful to me.
I indicated difficult to use because mixing the soil with water is a chore, although I have developed a routine by now.

I have owned the original tomato planter box for many years and have always ordered this replenishment kit. This is the first year that it didn't come with the red vinyl mulch, and I was quite surprised. I had to order it separately. I apparently didn't read the description to see that it wasn't included, but that's because I have ordered the same thing for so many years that I just ASSUMED (I know, I know) that it was the same thing. Oh, well. The thing is, the mulch comes with so many sheets that it will last for many years to come. Having said all this, and even though I was disappointed that the mulch wasn't included, I still highly recommend this kit to use with the planter. It is so easy to plant the box again each year, and it is easy to grow tomatoes, which is why I keep doing this year after year after year!

Sometimes every year because the rooting from my plants takes up the whole planters and takes the dirt with it when I empty them out. In previous years, they included one sheet of red mulch (you only need one per season). This year, they excluded the mulch sheet, so if you want one, you have to buy a pack of 8 sheets. So I guess I'm set for an additional 7 seasons! All I'll have to buy is soil and fertilizer, but Gardener Supply will have to convince that I should buy it from them. Fool me once, shame on me! I love my Tomato Success kit and have grown tomatoes on my patio for five years. You had a great idea to offer the replacement items as a package. However, THIS year you've excluded the sheet of plastic red mulch, the key element for a bountiful harvest! If you absolutely had to skimp on something, you should have included a smaller container of fertilizer and KEPT the red mulch. I didn't really need the EIGHT sheets of plastic I was forced to buy for ONE planter!!!

I grew tomatoes last year with the Tomato Success Kit and they did well. I don't have much space for gardening so I use a lot of containers. The replenishment kit made the replanting very easy, although I had to replace a couple of things like the cage and the watering spout, which somehow got misplaced. Would be great if the replenishment kit included some mulch, as the original package did, but overall this worked well.

Orgainic tomatoe fertilizer gives plants an extra boost. Self watering container mix is superb in retaining moisture and aiding in the growth of tomatoe and pepper plants in my garderners supply containers. I transplanted some lettuce seedlings into the container mix and the very next day I could see an obvious difference in their appearance. They've been growing like gangbusters so they obviously really like this soil. I am saving the tomato feeder for when I plant tomatoes late next month, but I've used it before (last season). My tomatoes did very well with it and the shaker makes for good control with spreading it around the plant. I do wish the soil wasn't quite so pricey so that I could buy more to have for a second container, but I just can't spare the money. I'm happy that at least what I did spend was not wasted or a disappointment.

This will be the fourth year I have used your tomato success set up on my patio. It has never failed me. I keep my family and friends supplied from only 3 plants that I put in the self watering container. The balance of nutrients is just right to produce delicous tomatoes and early in the season too. In addition to using this mix for my two tomato success planters, I buy extra to use the potting mix for transplanting seedlings from small containers filled with germinating mix, to larger pots before placing them in the garden. We have a short growing season so plants need to get a good head start indoors before they go in to the garden. There is no sign of transplanting shock, the plants take off and grow rapidly. Of course I get extra fertilizer and red plastic sheets and use them in the garden for the rest of my tomatoes. A real bargain.

I had replenished my tomato planters every year from Gardener's Supply. This year I chose a less costly alternative and the results are not the same. You never get weeds or other plants growing in Gardner's Supply Self Watering container mix. 2 bags is the perfect replenishment size and I have the peace of mind knowing that I add the organic fertilizer when needed and not rely on 'time released' fertilizers that may not be safe for my family - after all, we are eating this produce! I planted in early April and by May decided to replenish my mom's planters with the tried and true Gardener's Supply Kit. I purchased three self-watering containers from Gardener's Supply last year, including two Tomato Success Kits. My goal was to grow salad vegetables on my deck, which happens to be the only sunny spot in the yard (and less accesible to the deer, rabbits and woodchuck as well).
The containers (all three) were a whonking HUGE success - producing better than any of my previous traditional (raised bed) gardening methods. Even if I HAD a sunny garden plot spot available now I'm not sure I'd switch back.
Having stored my container soil over the winter, I ordered the Replenishment Pack do replace the soil and fertilizer that was eaten up by the plants last year. The Replenishment Pack is the same stuff I got with my Tomato Success Kits last year, and I expect similar results to last year's amazing garden.
A note on quantity: my container plants "used up" much less soil and fertilizer than I expected: one Tomato Success Kit Replenishment Pack was PLENTY to replenish my TWO Tomato Success planters (bearing in mind I still had last year's soil to use).
I highly recommend this product.

I was very excited last year about my tomato success kit-had good looking plants and lots of tomatoes. At one time I had (40) tomatoes at one time. I thought I would just spray the tomato rot-stop on as a prevention BUT that is where my trouble began. The leaves started curling at once. I have the biggest tomato plants in the neighborhood. I like not having to lug heavy bags around. I just have to add water, mix and scoop into a container.

Outside of our weather being unseasonally cold this year (which has really delayed our plants growth), the self watering pots in combination with this kit have yielded us bumper crops. I bought the whole kit last year and had the best tomato plant have ever grown so I just got the refill kit this year. The 2 plants I have in the Tomato Success planter are 3 times the size of those I have planted out in my garden and they are already producing tiny green tomatoes - weeks ahead of my garden plants.
The container does require some additional staking as it seems to get a little top heavy and can easily blow over in high winds.

I will never put tomatoes in the ground again. I bought the Tomato Success Kit last year; it promotes super healthy plants, so I purchased the replenishment pack for this season. My plants are over four-feet tall already. I bought the Tomato Success Cage extension, and my tomato plants are already reaching the top. I'd recommend using electrical ties (plastic) to keep the structure of the cage sturdy (made all the difference in the world this year). So this year, once the cage was up, I simply replenished the soil, added the red mulch,and let the soil "cook" for a couple of weeks until my organic plants arrived. I've had great luck, and continue to purchase from gardeners.com because of the quality of this and other products.

The planter is great, and using the products included in this kit have grown 2 GIANT tomato plants that are absolutely loaded with tomatoes. The plants are twice the size of the ones in our garden. I love everything about this product. It does exactly what I needed done and more. I had to stop growing tomatoes in the ground because I didn't have the best spot anymore (it was getting too shady)and I was fighting disease like crazy. This product solved all my problems. I get full sun on my deck and I no longer have diseased plants. My planter is on wheels, so I can move it around easily. I made the mistake the first year of keeping the water at full all the time. This worked fine at first, but once the tomatoes started bearing fruit, the plants didn't need that much moisture and my plants turned yellow and sickly. My climate may have had something to do with it. I have the hang of it now and I have the most beautiful tomato plants imaginable. I plant two of the smaller varieties in one planter. They grow together well and I get tons of fruit.
This planter would also be great for growing peppers, beans and pretty much anything. It is durable and should last a very long time. It also looks very nice on the deck. Thanks for a great product.

Lightweight, but not ready-to-use: had to put it into a bin and moisten it first. Initially I refilled my water reservoir every day but discovered if the mix stays very moist then moss starts to grow on top, even in a hot climate. Best to refill the reservoir only when low.
Tried using the extra mix w/self-watering planters indoors but it was unsuitable - was smelly and kicked up my allergies.

I was never very successful growing tomatoes in the ground. Disease, insects and snails usually took a heavy toll on my produce and I don't think the plants got enough sun. I tried this system several yrs ago and made the mistake of trying to grow 3 plants. This product works best with one plant and an additional tomatoe cage inside the cage that is part of the product to accomodate the vigorous growth and hieth of the plant. My current plant is about 5 ft tall and loaded with ripening fruit. At the end of the growing season I remove the plant and scatter the soil over other landscaping areas. Once you have this item assembled and watered you can not lift it, but the casters do make horizontal movement easy so you can place it on the most ideal spot on your deck.
