Comments about Tomato Cages:

There are many types of tomatoe cages and ladders. These are by far our favorite. They are sturdy, and easy to use. They contain and support the plants with ease. They are also a breeze to store in the winter. I recommend these and they are one of my favorite tools for the garden.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I have been looking for a square cage which was strong enough for tomato plants that didn't have to be put together. These cages are strong, store flat, and already together. They were priced almost the same as more flimsy cages which could be purchased in the stores around where I live. I love the cages and would recommend them to any gardener who is looking for cages which can be used over and over again and which are a great price for the quality of the materials used.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I purchased 2 of these for use in 2 tomato grow bags. They fit perfectly and help the grow bag maintain a nice square shape in addition to providing tomato support. At only 32 inches above soil level, however, my Juliet roma grape tomato I planted April 15 is already over the top of the cage at 5 weeks. Instead of stacking another [$] tomato cage on top, I shall try placing a 72 inch colorful garden spiral support ($7) in the middle, secure it with plant ties to the tomato cage so it won't wobble, and allow the tomato plant to continue climbing.

I bought a pkg. of them to try and when they arrived I opened them up. I was amazed at how well they were constructed. It was flat, folded in fourths. I couldn't get it to fold back into fourths again, but it does fold down flat in half which is just great with me. These were more durable and felt stronger than some expensive ones I bought at a retailer last year. I love how they fit in my box garden and look great.

I bought these tomato cages because I bought the grow bags. I was hoping the cages would last through the season. Boy! was I wrong. I'll be using them for many seasons to come. The cages fit perfectly in the grow bags but would be just as good in the ground. They're light weight but very sturdy. They even fold flat for winter storage. I could not be happier.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

This will be the ninth summer that I have used my tomato cages. I have over a dozen and they still work great -- a couple of bent wires from heavy tomatoes and a couple of welds undone, but that's all. Yesterday I ordered four more because I am expanding my garden. [...] What service! They appear to be every bit as good as my old ones. In addition I discovered a new use for them this spring. The deer were eating the new shoots of my day lilies. I opened a few of the tomato cages and laid them on their sides in the bed of lilies so the plants could still grow, but the deer couldn't get them. Now that it's time to cage my tomatoes, the day lilies are big enough to fend for themselves.

In my small backyard, I have raised beds that are 2ft wide and approximately 8 feet long. I saw these tomato cages and the reviews convinced me to give them a try. I love them. I purchased 5 total cages and am growing 5 different tomato plants in one of my beds. The square design makes them look very nice when planted in a row. They are sturdy and fold flat making winter storage a cinch- unlike the flimsy, always breaking round cages that I used to use. I plan to purchase more of these for my peppers next year. Comments about Tomato Cages:

We started buying these cages nearly 20 years ago for use in our back yard garden. We grow 2 30 foot rows of tomatoes every year and two rows of sweet pepper and in a separate garden a row of hot peppers. We can a lot of Salsa and Tomato sauce each year. Our tomato plants require two cages stacked and we use one for peppers. For years we added cages until we have enough for 20 tomato plants and the same number of pepper plants. We plant several varieties and plants usually over top double cages. I wouldn't grow tomatoes without them.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

The square design makes it very stable. However, that same feature requires it to be used in the ground rather than a pot - unless it is an extremely large one. I placed mine in the ground around the global pots. The round cages tend to fall over when the plant is fully grown, so I prefer these square ones.

Just be careful opening them up as they can pinch fingers. I ordered these, then reordered some additional ones. Easy to stack!

They are a bit pricey, but I'm thinking they will be used many years. Folds flat for storage.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I've bought those lightweight cone shaped tomato cages[...] before and the tines bend before you even get them 2" into the ground. They are also awkward to store over the winter. Plainly they just don't stand up. These tomato cages are very sturdy, enough to easily plant the tines in the ground. The space between the wires is large enough to easily stick your hand through to pick tomatoes and they fold flat to store over the winter. I bought 2 last year and a 3rd this year. They may be more expensive but I can see that they will last for years!

I purchased these cages to fit the grow bags and they are (so far!) perfect. The cages are of excellent quality and worth every penny. Easy to slip into the grow bags and fold for storage saving space. I'm sorry I waited so long to purchase these. They are versatile and can be used in a garden as well as the grow bags.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I ordered two of these last year and was so happy with them I got two more before setting out my tomatoes this year. It was easy to keep the tomatoes up off the ground, and easy to water right at the bases of the plants. Because they tended to fall over in high winds this year I also ordered the extra tall earth staples. The only con is it is not tall enough for my favorite cherry tomato, Sungold, which got about 10 feet tall.

These are the best plant cages I've ever used. They are strong and hold up big dahlias and tall, heavy tomatoes, etc.; they don't get pulled over by burgeoning plants like others I've tried. You can also stack them one on top of another for really tall plants. They fold flat for easy storage. I have some that have lasted for years--a bit rusty, but still good. I've given these cages to gardening family and friends as birthday gifts!

Comments about Tomato Cages:

These cages are wonderful. We have always used the old tomato baskets (cheap round cages), which always tipped over. I have always ended up using shovels, pitch forks and hockey stocks to prop up the baskets when the tomatoes got too heavy. With your tomato cages, we had no problems of any tipping over and it was easy to harvest. Then in the fall, it was so nice to just fold them flat and put them away in the shed. Now I use the old round baskets for other flowers in the garden and leave the heavy work to your square tomato cages. Thank you!

We've been growing tomatoes forever and have always used the old style tomato baskets which are weak and always tip over. I end up using pitch forks and hockey sticks to prop them up, but since we switched to use your tomato cages last year, we had no problems. They stood erect and made it easy to harvest and then in the fall we folded them up and easily stored them in the shed. Fabulous product... bought 4 more this year! THANKS!

Both years I used these, they were overwhelmed by my heirlooms. First time, I thought it was me, second time, not so much. I don't know how they would do with more modern varieties that put out less of the green stuff per plant.

I stored them flat using zip ties--that worked a treat.

I found putting them together the first time to be very difficult and the tips of the wires were sharp and scratchy.

I might try them on a different plant.

After some of the reviews, I was worried about ordering these. I got the 4 pack, and was pleasantly surprised that mine were great. They unfold easily, then are very sturdy, and fit the tomato grow bag nicely (I have my grow bag inside another container). I did not find any broken weld, or rust. My only complaint is ends of wire are a bit sharp (at hinges), so I have to keep my kids away or put some plastic tips on them.

This product is one of the best. You can use it just for your tomato plants or any other plant that needs support. You can also attach them so that you can use them to block off a certain area of your garden like I do. It keeps the goat out of my garden and they are easy to use. I love them. This is the second set I buy. They are a little expensive, but they are sturdy, tall and expand if you attach them. A great product.

I love these for my holding up my tomatoes. They stay put and are very sturdy. But this summer one broke so I found a completely new use for it! Each piece comes apart so I could use the pieces to hold up tall perenials in my garden with ease. Plus, from a distance you really can't see the supports. Several friends asked me where I got those cool supports. :-)

Pros:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Tomato Cages:

Compared to all the methods for supporting tomatoes that I have tried (poles/posts/sticks/branches/stakes, conical baskets, fencing), these cages are convenient, easy to use, do the job. I have placed a stake in one or two cages to support especially tall plants. The cages are large enough to allow for plenty of breathing space for the tomato plants, and can be arranged in an "every-other-one" fashion for economy. A bit expensive, but very well constructed and should last for years, making the investment well worth it.

By the time I ordered these tomato cages, the tomatoes were too big. However, I've used them to separate the tomatoes from the beans. They are working great. The beans are climbing on them instead of the tomato plants. I think the tomatoes must love the beans because we've had more tomatoes than we've every had.

These cages are wonderful. I have been using the heavyweight ladders for years on my tomatoes and decided to try these this year. The ladders are strong and a little taller but require a lot of tying to train the plants. These require almost none at all and they are much sturdier than I expected. I'll buy more for next year. I also love the way they collapse for storage. A truly wonderful product.. pricey but worth it.

We like the tomato cages. This is our first year using them. Two of the things we like about them is the generous size so the plant isn't squeezed together which makes picking tomatoes easier and the large grid. We just wish they had longer legs to put into the ground and weren't so expensive.

Finally! After years of having round tomato cages fall over after a breeze, staking plants up to see them flop on the ground by August, I decided to go ahead and spend some $$ to buy quality cages for my tomatoes. They work great! The square cages support the plants, allow access to the tomatoes and look so professional standing in shiny rows. They promise to fold up and store - can't tell you how relieved I am to have a solution. Worth every penny I paid!

I am using these cages to support the growth of new tomato plants and yet I needed something on which to wind some netting around so that the tomatos would only be eaten by humans. The cages are sturdy, tall enough, and sturdy enough to protect my tomato plants. You can water the plants easily with the cages in place. It works much better for me than the circular cages that are more widely available.

These things cost a lot more than those cone shaped things you can pick up for $2.95. But I think they are worth it. Very sturdy, even in high wind. Will fold up for storage. Taller than the cone things. Don't get bent out of shape. If they last for 5 years or more, they will be worth it. I can't see any reason, at this point, that they won't last at least that long.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

These arrived totally assembled, unfolded fine (well, one "joint" got entangled with another for a few seconds, but that's all) and folded back up nicely and will store flat. I will never use those cone shaped cages again. These are sturdy and if you experience a lot of wind at your location, you can use Gardeners' Earth Staples to help hold them down, I haven't needed to. My only gripe--I hope I'm not overlooking them--is that there are no extensions for their square cages. I found them for the rectangular ones, but not these. My tomato plants already topped these by more than a foot. I'll be buying more, I'll just be sure to get determinate, rather than indeterminate, tomato plants, I guess!

I've tried all sorts of cages and supports over the past 30 years including several from Gardeners Supply. These are the best by far for growing large healthy tomato plants of all varieties. For cherry varieties, I stack them 3 high. Easy to fold up and store also. Some of these cages have been used every year for over a decade with no signs of rust or breakage. A must for every tomato grower.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I am growing tomatoes for the first time in "bags". I ordered these cages after my plants were tall and bushy (late July). The cages easily sliped over the plants and the stakes we perfectly positioned to fit in the bags themselves. We have had several "tropical downpours" here in New England last several weeks--and my Tomatoes are still standing

I used 4 of these in my raised vegetable garden on wheels. Last year, the traditional tomato cages I used fell over, because the soil depth was not sufficient to support them. The square cages are much more stable. There is plenty of room to tie gangly herbs onto the outsides of the cages. My bed looks neat and tidy, and my tomatoes are growing straight and tall.

This cage is awesome. I had ones that folded flat before, but they had 3 sides and they were hard to "hook" together because they weren't one continuous piece. This one is 4 sided and you just open it up to a square and place it on the plant. Amazingly easy to use and very sturdy.

I've struggled with those flimsy other cages for over thirty years! Bought 8 of these last year. Getting ready to order 20 more and I'd get more if the budget allowed. Comments about Tomato Cages:

growing up with an italian dad who just loved tomatoes, i was very surprised that i now grow 5 heirloom varieties per year. hate the normal cages. they suck. too small and you end up using other ugly things, as they deleted the original word i wanted to use, to make it useful. saw these, read the comments, bought them. first, my 74 year old dad loved them. put them together like that. my tomatoes are HUGE and this cage is perfect. just go and make sure you move the branches early so u don't break them later on. like i did. the cages can disappear depending on the size of the plant. really useful. will def buy more for my dad's bd gift and me. and yeah, they are pricey but u will never buy another one again. u can use it for other things. they are durable. i just love them and i realllllly hate tomato plants

Sturdy, doesn't have to be opened into a box shape. You can fold it up flat and use it as a small emergency trellis, or you can fold it into a diamond shape for smaller spaces or odd plants. However, I don't see how you can stack two of these without bending/mangling the feet of the top cage.

I'm using these cages for four tomato plants which I have started from seeds. They look great and I like that at the end of the season I can fold the cages flat for storage. My plants are not very large yet, so we'll see if the cages are too flimsy for large plants... right now I am optimistic. They look so much neater than traditional round cages.

I am using these for melons instead of tomatoes, but i am quite pleased at the sturdiness of these cages, I have them lined up in the rows as diamond-shapes, my only worry is they may not be tall enough, but we'll see that later in the season. But MUCH more durable than the ones i previously bought from a national chain store, which bent and came apart at the loosely welded spots.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I have used all kinds of tomato cages and they use to drive me crazy since they would not handle the weight of the tomatoes at the height of the season and fall over. These are perfect, you don't have to put them on right away (since they go easily over the plants even when taller/wider). They are support the plants beautifully and I have never had one fall over with the weight of the tomatoes. I have been using them for 4 years and I will never use anything else! Cheaper versions DO NOT WORK! A fellow gardener tried and ended up switching to these!

I was at work (firefighter/paramedic) when the tomato cages arrived. My wife is 9 months pregnant and set them up in a matter of minutes. We ordered just four and only have a small raised bed on our half-acre urban lot. We put one around the cucumber vine, too. [...]easy to setup/store. Out of curiosity, I took one down when I returned home. These fold completely flat unlike the ones I tried to make out of Home Depot rolled wire fence material. We will definitely purchase more if our garden expands. Thanks again, Gardener's Supply.

Nice tomato cages, well made, sturdy and attractive with a smooth shiny finish on the steel. The square shape helps them not tip over with heavy tomatoes or in the wind.I bought some simliar ones on [...] as well, but those were not as nice. I'll be buying more from here.

I've been using these tomato cages for years and they're wonderful. Last a long time, which is good because with 20 tomato plants and these cages double stacked, they're a little on the expensive side. But they're quality and worth it in the long run. Highly recommend.

I found the tomato cage easy to unfold without bending or breaking, unlike some other reviewers. It seems to be sturdy and I like that it folds so that I can easily store it during the winter without it taking lots of space. I also found that it just fits into the 15" rolling self-watering planter, so it is perfect if you want to create your own tomato system!

I LOVE this product!! I threw all my other tomato cages away. My tomatoes grow very tall and heavy, and it is also very windy where I live. These tall tomato cages, in combination with the tall earth staples are the only things that have been able to stand up to them! I like the fact that they come in two pieces, so you can add onto the cage as the tomatoes grow.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I love these tomato cages because they keep my garden well organized. The cages do an excellent job keeping the fruit off of the ground so the tomatoes are much healthier and easier to harvest. It is easier to keep the weeds under control with the plants contained in their cages. The price is on expensive side but the cages are well constucted and will last for years. I recommend that all rust and dirt be removed before storing the cages away in the fall.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

This tomato cage is super easy to set up, in fact it just pops open. It fits nicely into the Tomato size gardening bag which was one of the reasons why I originally purchased this item. However, I liked them so much I purchased 4 more for use in our actual garden. I have the cages in 3 of the tomato gardening bags which have a tomato plant and the other 2 have zucchini plants. My only fear is that they will be too small once all the plants are mature and bearing fruit, they are only about 3 ft in height. I probably should have just purchased the larger size cages. But this is my first year actually growing a vegetable garden out of containers, so I guess you live and you learn!

The other reason I got these cages was for easy storage. I liked how they folded flat. Since this is my first season using them, I am hoping they will be just as easy to fold flat as they were to pop open.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

In addition to 2 veggie cages for my pepper plants, I ordered the set of 4 taller tomato cages. They were simple to "open" and should be tall enough for my tomato plants. The only downside - I have a small 3 x 3 raised bed and three cages won't fit side by side. They are just a smidgen wider than the veggie cages, but that makes them too wide. I used 2 and put a regular round "cheap" cage [...] around my third tomato plant in the center (I'll do a cage comparison experiment this summer). The third cage is protecting a new red bud tree in a corner garden area - works just fine! The fourth cage is in the basement; for just one person with a small yard, 4 was one too many but they are a bit too expensive for me to purchase singly.

These are the best vegetable cages that I have seen on the market. They can be stacked on top of each other and tied down on each corner with a zip tie for added height. I use them for tomato, cucumbers, and pole beans. When I need smaller spacing in the open holes for tendrils to latch onto I wrap & secure sturdy string horizontally & vertically through the cage openings. They are quick and easy to install and hold up well with the strong winds in Florida especially when you use the extra tall earth staples found on this website. They also fold flat for easy storage when not in use. I have purchased 4-5 sets of these over the past year.

I just got mine and put them out today. They unfolded easily, but I have yet to see how they store at the end of the season. I decided to use some of my old tomato cages and gradually add these yearly, but now I wish I had ordered more. The difference between the round tomato cages and these are quite obvious! The cages are sturdy and have good spacing between levels. The height of the cages is great, and I can still add on if needed. I'm giving them a 4 until the end of the season. Other than that, great product!

The cages are very sturdy, a much thicker gauge of wire than you will generally find. They hinge at the corners which makes them easy to work with and they fit perfectly into the tomato bags. I ordered 4 of these cages for my small garden. They are so, so sturdy! The square cages are still standing tall and straight! Very well worth the price!

Comments about Tomato Cages:

We purchased these to use in the tomato planter bags. We live where it is very windy much of the time and these are sturdy enough to withstand the wind and hold plants upright. Greatt quality! Look nice and neat as well.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

We used the cages in conjunction with the tomato grow bags. Since there were no instructions, we filled the first two grow bags and planted them before attempting to install the frames. This method did not work well because the cages will not insert completely into the grow bag.

When installed correctly, they support the grow bag well, but are harder to fill with soil and to plant. One can't have everything, I guess. They do work very with the grow bags however and seem to be strong enough to support the plants.

I love how easy these cages are for assembly & storage with their spring loaded system. I can also use them for more than tomatoes which is a big plus. Will order another set next year!

I have to grow tomatoes in containers in that I live in a condo. The tomato cage fit perfectly in my large red container. I wish it had been a little taller though.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

I'm using the cages in Gardener Supply's raised self-watering bed with tomato and pepper plants. The bed is in a windy spot. The cages are protecting the plants beautifully. And they are so much more attractive than other cages.

I liked the tomato cage better than the tomato basket. It will not tip over as easily and lets the plant spread out.

Comments about Tomato Cages:

These cages fell apart after one season. It was extremely annoying to have to put the sides together again. What's worse is that I bought tomato cages from Gardeners Supply many, many years ago and those are still going strong today. For the new ones, both the quality of the material and the quality of the construction have diminshed significantly.
