For a permanent structure like a fence, arbor or trellis, you need a material that will retain its strength and good looks over time. This faux bamboo is an excellent choice. Made of plastic-coated steel, the 59" poles are rot and mildew resistant, and will always maintain their original honey color.

My son just made this to cover our bluberries. He used the connectors that we bought from Gardeners Supply and bird netting. They worked great! It just survived a terrible windstorm last evening and hopefully will keep the birds away. Now to build something for the deer...

I have a fence structure that is intended to hide an ugly exterior fuel oil tank. For years I have tried to grow vines and completely cover it. The bamboo stakes were easy to install as a trellis right at the fence, and the vines have already started using the new trellis.
Due to the height and width of the space I am trying to trellis, I would have liked the option of some longer bamboo poles. I ended up using some real bamboo poles that were very long and mixing them with your bamboo poles using your swivel clips. Worked out very well.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Easy to put up using the clips, results in a sturdy frame for beans, squash.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I was happy that I was able to make a trellis for my tomato plants without calling my husband for help.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
So far these are holding up very well. They are very sturdy, and work well with the bamboo clips.Price wise they are about the same as the skinny green ones sold at [...]t but these Faux Bamboo ones are much better quality .
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
We are just setting up the garden so have not had anything on these as yet but will update at the end of the season. Really are sturdy and easy to use.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
This was easy to put together and feels sturdy. It's too early to tell if it will work well as a trellis, but so far I'm impressed.

After years of half-assing around with flimsy and cheap products trying to save money, I decided to bite the bullet on GSC's faux bamboo. I could not be happier! They're sturdy, easy to use, flexible, and will be simple to store. Did I mention they're STURDY? I configured an A-frame trellis for my peas, and later in the season I'm growing melons and cukes on this stuff. I just put it all up three days ago, and I've ordered two more sets. GSC has the best tomato cages, too. We bought some 15 years ago, and they're still going strong.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Putting together is a snap. No tools, expertise or strength required. Seems to be made for the ages and it is attractive in appearance
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
need to support a vertical garden , need a row cover these faux bamboo stakes are the starting point for anyone .
unless you are a rigger you also should buy the swivel connectors .
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Great, study poles. Only improvement would be a point on the end so driving it into clay soil would be easier. But no chance of breaking one of these poles!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I USE THE FAUX STAKES TO SUPPORT TALL LEGGY PLANTS. THEY ALLOW ME TO VARY THE DESIGN OF VARIOUS BEDS AND VARIOUS HEIGHTS OF PLANTS. I JUST WISH THEY WOULD COME IN A SHORTER LENGTH SO I COULD CONTROL THE DEPTHOF PLANTINGS EASIER.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I'd hoped the connectors would work mid-pole and they don't. The poles are a bit too thick to go into the earth easily.

No splinters, no breaking poles, easy to work with, looks pretty in the garden. Use it for squash, cukes, and melons. I only wish they would come in various lengths.

Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I use this as an inexpensive fencing/barrier around my yard in the areas between vegetation. This keeps people from walking through the gardens between yards and for the most part deer from walking through/using as a path. It is easy to use with the connectors (sold separately). One downfall is if you use a hammer to put into the ground, the plastic & metal may buckle a little. As soon as this happens it will start to rust. The plastic does fade over the years but I think it adds a nice aged look to the product. Realizing they are suppose to look like bamboo, it would still be nice if they came in different colors (drk brown, forest green).

I just got these and I'm using some of them for supports of my cucumbers at the moment. This seems to be working out very well. They are easy to use with the clips that are sold seperately you can make many configurations. I bought them to make a box to net my rhododendrons to keep the deer from eating the buds off during the winter. Hopefully that will work. If they do I will be buying more.

Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Drawing in catalogue is accurate as to looks but leaves off the fact that you'll need to use string to have vines grow b/c insufficient rods= gaps too wide for vines to reach next level. We constructed ours (as a string bean trellis) as shown in picture and it fell over during the first windy day. We re-built in same design (other variations were more unsteady) and propped buckets of rocks against the legs. So far, it's standing. Stands 4 feet tall x 5 foot wide if built like picture but do not try to make it longer though b/c it won't stand up. Good idea overall but need to play with it to get it right for your needs. If it collapses once vines are on it, you'll hate it.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I combined these with the Nearly invisible netting, and the swivel connectors. Great for providing support for vining plants, tomatoes, etc.
Also useful for creating a barrier to keep pets out of garden.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I just ordered a second set for use in a victory/community garden. They look good and hold up well. I can pound them into the ground with a hammer without breaking them or having to dig a hole for them. I use them to support chicken wire compost bins, as fencing support, plant support, just about anything.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
These poles are attractive and strong. However, neither end is pointed so they are impossible to drive into the earth the way you would do with any other normal stake. So if you want to use them for this purpose, you need to either make the hole using something else, or use a metal ground stake that you CAN drive, and insert the poles into that, which is what I did.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I love these poles! I use them everywhere in my garden. Combine these with the connectors and some netting they can be used anywhere and for anything. Great construction, looks good and works well! What more could you want!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Easy set up using swivel connectors. Very versatile.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I've used these sticks for trellises in the garden for cucumbers & they seem to work great. I've also used them as trellises for grapevines. They are working so far except for the heavier one. I've had to fix it back a couple of times. They may not be storng enough for grapevines after they've grown.

I'm hoping to get some cukes to climb on it. I also want to plant under it.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
you can hammer it into the ground
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I've used the faux bamboo to build low cages around plants I don't want deer to eat. When I ran out of faux bamboo, I used some regular bamboo. Bad choice! We have snow in CO, and one winter splits and breaks regular bamboo. So I'm ordering more of the faux bamboo to repair my cages.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
These are just the thing for fencing off a vegetable garden that entices our dogs. We combined them with the bamboo fencing and are anticipating actually getting some vegetables soon. I suspect these poles will last for many years as they are very sturdy!

Using them for many things in my garden
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
THIS JUST WHAT I NEEDED FOR THE GARDEN
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I can pound these in -unlike real bamboo and it seems to be lasting- two years now. Very sturdy for fence supports. A bit slippery for beans to climb.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Love the concept, but the bamboo is too slick for the seedlings to grab ahold of.

Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Second time I purchased this item and the connectors. They are sturdy but still easy to put up and take apart. I find endless uses for them in both my veggie and flower gardens which is why I needed to buy more of them. You can hardly tell the new ones from the ones I bought over a year ago.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
The stakes are strong and long-lasting. But they would be infinitely more useful if the swivel clips that were formerly available from Gardeners Supply were still in the catalog. With those, you could easily clip the stakes together at any angle, then unclip them when you wanted to make a new configuration. Without, you're back to wrestling with twine. Bring the connectors back!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Easy to use, very flexible, strong support
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used it for peas. Intended to use it for squash plants, but due to to much rain, and plants dying, did not.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Along with the grids I purchased, I took two faux bamboo poles and attached two grids(one on top of the other)to the poles for supporting my cucumbers and beans. I also made a tepee out of three poles for more climbing beans. They are also good for tying up tomato plants.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
used it for deer fence, makes for a stable but lightweight fence.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
These poles and their attachment pieces are slippery and a bit frustrating to use. You need two people to do it efficiently. Once done they are quite functional even if smaller than I'd like. I think my peas will overrun the poles. I probably will use them most often in pots.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I brought a set last year and need more for the garden at my school. Use for beans, cukes, and peas with netting.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Using it this year for climbing veggies and flowering vines.....will undoubtedly purchase more as gardens expand as they offer maximum return in small spaces...
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Easy to use.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I am very happy with this product, it clicked together very easily but there were no instructions on how best to put it together and no picture of the completed product. However, I think it will fill the bill for what we need.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
These are very attractive and sturdy.I have bought 3 sets so far and intend to buy more. If you are driving them into hard clay or stony dirt, soak the ground first. Even though they are tough, they won't drive through hard stuff like re-bar does. Go ahead and buy the clips too, they increase your usage options greatly.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used the faux bamboo poles to hang a trellis for vegetables and deer netting to protect my tomatoes from our over population of deer. The poles work brilliantly.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I created a little structure to grow my peas on. It looks like a small gazebo. I was able to use some real bamboo poles in between the faux ones to stabilize it. The bamboo connectors I bought did a good job with both the faux and real bamboo lengths. I did get a few bruises snapping the connectors on, but hopefully that means they will stay in place.

Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I'm using these for pea netting and to make tomato "cages". They're sort of expensive but much cheaper than your tomato cages or towers. I can use either 3 or 4 to make a "cage" with vegetable netting.
The two problems I see are that they are too short - they're less than 4' tall once you've got them firmly in the ground. Pea fence and even tomato supports need to be 5' to 6' tall (above the ground) at least.
The other problem is that they are too smooth. Ties slip and slide and I would not rely on the connectors to hold anything that needs to be the least bit weight bearing.
I'm going to try wrapping the pole with duct tape where I need to tie things on, maybe wrapping a spiral of garden twine over that, in order to prevent slippage and give a surface that ties can grab onto.
The surface needs to be textured so that things won't slip. I realize this will make them next to impossible to get gleaming clean, but I frankly don't care if my garden poles are shiny. Or put knobbledy things on them like are on the green plastic coated metal supports that come with some of your other products, anything that would make it easier to tie things on without having them slip later.
Or you COULD just sell us the green knobbledy poles in a couple of lengths to start with. I don't care whether or not it looks like bamboo, I just want affordable, heavy duty, sturdy, reusable poles that will hold my plants up where they need it.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used this product around my pond to keep a Blue Heron from getting to my fish. I love that the clips turn so that I can also run the bamboo rod horizontal by snapping it to one that I drove into the ground. It is very handy for the netting I put over the pond in the fall and winter to keep leaves out. I buy plastic hair clips and just clip the netting in place on the bamboo. I had dried bamboo poles in and they were rotting, so when I saw the faux bamboo in the Gardeners Supply catalogue I was exstatic when I saw that they had metal cores. I love them!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used the bamboo faux in the garden for a tent
to start my winter vegies by covering it with plastic. So easy with the attatchments. Worked great and vegies
are growing good. Should have cold weather vegies
soon.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I have used these to stake tomatoes, for holding netting for vines and to stabilize my garden fencing.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
THIS PRODUCT CAN BE USED FOR ANY AN
EVERYTHING. THE CLAMPS MOVE SO YOU CAN
PUT THEM AT ANY ANGEL.THEY EVEN
CLAMP ON A 1/2 INCH CONDUT PIPE!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
We tried other trellis structures in our (4ft.)square foot boxes. Some were shakey, and some were ugly. The bamboo trellis could be braced against the boxes, and with an extra piece of leftover bamboo we made tripod ends for greater stability. Looks great!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
These stakes are so versatile--I used them to prop up heavy tomato plants and to espalier an apple tree. Because they don't have a pointed end, it is important to make a pilot hole if they are used as ground stakes, but that's not a big deal. Next year they will be used for framing for peas and beans. I'm so glad I bought a lot of them!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used this product as a tomato trellis and put it together to look like the picture in the catalog. I like that the faux bamboo can be put together any way you need to use it. You can use all or some of the parts. Once put together they seem sturdy. However, put your structure together in the location you intend to use it if it is rather large. They get flimsy and hard to move. This is my first year using this product so I don't know how sturdy it is in the long run.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I love this product and its versatility. I have made standing grid trellises for my green beans and a teepee for my sugar snaps. Their durablity is what I most like about this product. I had been making trellises out of small bamboo poles, but each lasted only one season. These easily snap together into whatever configuration you desire. I have yet to find any negative aspect to this great product. It is products like this that keep me coming back to Gardener's Supply for my gardening needs.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I have always used real bamboo tied together for my beans, and this looks great and just snaps together. No more frustrating tying the tops together with twine. I added some twine supports in the middle to help the beans get started. My only request would be for it to be taller. All in all, a real time saver.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
this is my first season, It was easy to use.I used it to support cucumber crop. It worked very well.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I have mixed feelings on the faux poles. They work GREAT for making plant supports or frames. They are easy to work with, made of quality material, nice looking, and are easy to store. The problem I had with them is getting vines to grow on them. I made a trellis for snap peas and they would not grow on it. Maybe the poles are too smooth. I will try them again but add some twine or string next to the poles to see if that helps. Wonder if anyone else has had this problem? Still recommend them as they are quite useful in the garden.

Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
useful & attractive. we originally bought some for a pea trellis, but bought more when we realized they are strong enough for grape vines. a lot more attractive than wooden posts & wires.
if you use the clips to hold them together,
older kids can help assemble them, the clips are strong & need no instructions. the clips are a bit expensive but once you have the basic structure clipped together, you can attach the remaining bamboo stakes with twine, etc.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Easy to assemble
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used them for my cucumbers, placed netting over the frame for more support and it worked great.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
What a joy to use. I used the connectors with the poles and they were so easy. No more sore hands, or getting tangled up in string. Worked great for my tomatoes, cukes and beans. I will buy another set next year to expand my garden.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Used this for trellis for heavy vines
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
The faux bamboo makes good fence posts when paired with plastic 1 in. mesh fence. Sturdy enough to last the season but easily removed in the fall.
I used three in a 'tepee' shape for cucumbers. With ends firmly hammered in the ground, bind the top to hold in place then run twine for vertical and horizontal supports.
An excellent deal and product for the price!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Excellent for grape vines
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I thought the stucture would be strong enough to stand up well and hold cover fabrics. I used the swivel connectors and built a simple A-frame structure but it is way too wobbly, no matter how deep into the ground we push the legs. And pushing the legs into the ground just has the effect of making them so much shorter. The poles themselves are sturdy and strong but the way it all gets put together just doesn't work.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Plant supports, flower trellis, markers for things I need to find in my over-the=top vegetable garden... it seems everytime I face an issue of how to take care of something in the garden I end up with this product! Don't forget the clips when you make your purchase - and don't think that you can stop at just one bundle!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
I used these on the side of a porch, against a railing and I love the way they look.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
The trellis I made as pictured in the catalog collapsed diagonnally, because the swivel connectors do not hold the angle firmly. They also slide under weight. I used the halves to connect the plastic trellis netting, and this too slide down under the weight of my snow pea vines. The whole thing collapsed diagonally in the wind, despite my efforts to counter that tendency with cord. I wish the tall expandable metal pea fence was available when I ordered this. That is really what I wanted, but was not available at the time.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
Our Beans love this teepee!!!!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
They're straight and stiff and uniform diameter. I would buy longer ones, if they were available.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
These work great! With the build-a-balls and the swivel connectors added, I have built structures so easily in my garden. Just follow the directions to avoid frustration caused by the structure moving around when being built. They are very durable and should last me years!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
So far, I have used some along with the Building Balls to support bird netting over some bush cherries, and a few for tomato and pole bean supports. Other uses will present themselves as time goes along. They aare easy to use, strong, and easy to clean. Some staking materials will carry plant disease organisms over from one year to the next and are not as easy to clean as the faux bamboo, which does not rust or corrode.
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
My first use of this product was a framework over my strawberries to hold a net and keep the birds out. It was a little hard getting a sturdy frame built, but next year it will be easier! I'm definitely impressed with with sturdiness of the poles. I am confident they will hold up for quite a few years. But be sure to buy the Swivel Connectors with them and not the Build-a-Balls!
Comments about Faux Bamboo, Set of 12:
The product is attractive and durable. The only thing I think it needs is some hints on how best to put it up with the connectors-they are easy to use but the poles want to lean and fall over. I was ready to pull my hair out. Once it is up, it is great and I think I will be using it for years.
