Comments about A-Frame Support:

My vines have started to grow up it. I'm waiting to see if it will hold the weight of the watermelons and cukes as they grow. It seems very durable, though, and I have high hopes! I'm very pleased with how easily it set up. And the netting ties to it very well. It increased the space in my fenced garden so I could plant more veggies.

Comments about A-Frame Support:

While i like the concept, the poles are flimsy, the inserts are not holding up. I intend to place webbing over the poles for lightweight vegetables, but I'm concernd that even the slightest weight will cause the poles to collapse. I would have preferred something with small hinges to keep poles more aligned. I'm constantly adjusting the poles as they keep shifting from their own weight. Placing poles deeper into the soil improves situation. Would not have purchased it if seen beforehand.

Wow! I was surprisingly disappointed with this! It IS, as others have already commented, not really as pictured. It is flimsy and wildy overpriced, and should have come with netting...and directions. It made me wish for my old wood frame. If I had seen it first, I would have gone with Plan B.

Got this in a box with no instructions or pictures. Me and my engineering friend, with a combined 18 years of higher education in the sciences, could not figure out how to put the thing up. It fell every time, and was flimsy. She is an avid master gardener and I am a beginner. The thing resides in my garage in a pile and will go to a garage sale.

This is mis represented in the add . It doesn't even look like the add . I plan to use string .There is no place to tie on the top . Great for starting peas in a small veggie garden. Lettuces are growing comfortably underneath while peas are starting. Unfortunately, the unit top is a specific length which was just about 8" too long for the space I intended. It should have an adjustable pole and would then be a perfect tool.

When ordering this a net was offered,so I realized the net was not included. I set it up,once the cross bar was in place,I took twine and tied it across and from the top of the frame to the bottom cross line...no biggie. The cukes climbed nicely, they hung down and were easy to harvest. Left more room for zukes and acorn squash. Good idea. Happy gardener.

Cons:
Flimsy

Primary use:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about A-Frame Support:

The A frame support is a bit flimsy and I don't like that I have to add my own twine. So after setting this up you need to then figure out how to rig a set-up of twine across each of the supports to create your own "cage" so the cucumbers, etc can grow. This was way over priced and not what I expected. You can easily build your own contraption for much cheaper to support the vegetables you need supports for.

Comments about A-Frame Support:

I was very disappointed in this product. The catalog description says 'steel'. However, the poles and clips are really all cheap plastic. It doesn't have the strength to support anything.
We ended up modifying it by adding woven wire panels to each side and wiring them in place.
We would have been better off making our own support.I never would have ordered this if it had been accurately depicted and described correctly. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

Bottom Line:

Comments about A-Frame Support:

This is the only thing I've ordered from Gardeners that I have not been happy with. Frankly, it sucks beyond redemption.Exceedingly flimsy. Could barely get it to stand upright. Every time you got one end to stand up the other end would fall out from under it or close. If you got both ends to stand up the middle didn't have both feet on the ground.I ended up putting two layers of mesh netting on it and using extra long earth staples to anchor it into the ground by the ends of the mesh netting. It's upright now...but still sways like a drunk.I bought two. [...] If it weren't so much trouble to take down the one I actually got up, I'd send it back, too.I hope Gardeners will purge this product from inventory and never advertise it again.

I purchased 2 of these A-frame trellises for use in my garden with my melons this summer. I've been using them for about 3-4 weeks and the vines are growing up as expected and the melons are hanging as they grow. this is the only product I have ever purchased from this company that I have been disappointed with. Two of the 3 sets of poles that come attached to each other came a part and I could not fix them properly. Given the time that took, I would suggest that if you purchase this item, buy the netting too.

I really think that saying this is powdercoated steel is very misleading. This product is really plastic tomatoe stakes with a plastic clip on the end of 3 stakes so that the 4th stake can be attached to form an a-frame. Out of the box one clip was broken in half. If it weren't so difficult to send this back, I'd send it back. But here I am out [$] dollars for worthless china made junk.

Pros:

Cons:
Flimsy
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about A-Frame Support:

It came with no instructions. Four similar length poles. Three you unfold and the fourth you clip into the middle of the unfolded poles creating the top of the A-frame. A clip broke even as I tried to ease the cross pole into the third peak clip. Ended up using grey tape. Don't know how much cucumber or squash weight it will support. Not worth returning. Didn't anticipate cheap PLASTIC clips. How many seasons will that last?

This would be a good product if you didn't have to assemble it and also if you're willing to buy the net that is an additional 15 dollars every year. I'd rather buy the wire frame support and never have to spend another dime and also not have to reassemble every time I want to use it.

So far so good with this but it's early in the growing season. I DO wish this just came with the netting. Very odd that it doesn't yet really requires that item. Sorry but this item is not well designed as described.

My squash were overrunning the lawn yesterday and I didn't have the netting yet. I pulled up the heavy vines and attached them with veggie ties. The frame was a little awkward to put up by myself, and the design was not what I expected, but it promises to support a heavy load of squash vines and fruit, especially with the netting. I pushed the stakes in 6 or 8 inches and it is very sturdy.

Comments about A-Frame Support:

The A frame does not stand up by itself. I had to use a fence to prop it against. I guess I could dig 6 holes in the ground for the legs, but you can't hammer them into the ground or you would break the plastic. It does not come with anything for the plants to climb up, so that was another expense. Next time I need something like this, it would be easier and cheaper to just buy netting and pound in stakes to staple the netting to.

Comments about A-Frame Support:

First off, I would suggest this item come with actual instructions. Mine did not, not even a card identifying it or anything. Also, I suggest tying up your string or whatever you choose to use prior to setting it in its semi-permanent space. Having an extra set of hands to help is also advisable. Item is sturdy when placed exactly right, but getting it there takes a bit of work. Check again after major winds or rain. It probably is not in exactly the same place you left it. Do not place where it could be bumped by yourself, others or animals, or you'll be constantly adjusting it to avoid dumping your plants on the ground! I don't yet know how it will handle the full weight of the plants bearing harvests. I just hope it can take it and still stand on its own.

Comments about A-Frame Support:

Just received it in the mail. It looks like good quality, but my only beef is that all you get is a 4 piece pole frame. The description of the item did not make it clear that you HAVE to buy netting to attach to it in order for it to work. Gardeners should have been more clear because it wasn't what I expected when I opened it. Regardless, once I buy netting I think it should work just fine.

The best way to allow spreading vine plants to grow upward instead of taking up so much garden space. Its sturdy enough to support melons as well.

Comments about A-Frame Support:

I am very pleased with the design of this A-frame but I would recommend buying the netting that is available. I purchased some 4 x 4 lightweight fencing for my trellis and attached it with zip ties. It should last years and I can't wait to see my produce hanging on the inside for easy pickin'.
