Amaryllis are a gorgeous and foolproof holiday gift. The bold and beautiful flowers are preceded by a month of excitement as the stems slowly emerge and the buds open into large and striking blossoms, two to three per 12-15" stem.     We purchased several to give as gifts for Christmas. All of the plants started growing right away and produced two flower stalks. Most were about 16 inches tall (no staking required) and produced multiple flowers. One produced four flowers and a bud. One bud stalk stayed close to the pot and died; but the producing flowers were gorgeous pink about five inches in diameter and long-lasting. One is housed in a beautiful chapel for all to see. One amaryllis did not fare well due to overwatering. I would purchase them in November rather than December next year so they bloom closer to Christmas rather than in January. However, who does not enjoy post-Christmas gifts; and these plants certainly fit this category. The recipients enjoyed watching the swift growth of these beautiful plants and waiting for the large, bright buds with their extended bloom time. Great gifts!

    I bought 2 after being offered a good price on ordering more than one. Fortunately the gift one
    has put up a stem and has 3 blossoms, none open as yet,but apparently will.Mine had kind of a moldy look but I have sparingly watered it and there just isn't any sign of life there.
