I read all the reviews before I bought this product. No where did I read abot dogs liking this until it arived in the mail. But I thoght I would give it a try anyway. The warning on the box said racoons and dogs maybe attracted to the scent. Sure enough it wasn't up more than one day and my dogs who are both way over the chewing stage, chewed up the plastc trap and ate the whole thing. So I don't really know if it keeps away deer. I think it would be nice if somewhere in the add for this product they would put the warning about attracting dogs and racoons.

This was so easy. I just put them in the Hostas in early Spring and not once had a deer in the area or any damage to the hostas. I am so happy with this product. I will be ordering it again next year. I have always had problems in the past with deer eating all the hostas.

Although I am not sure that any product can stop a hungry deer, the Deer Fortress was not at all effective.

I used this product last year with great results. So far this year the deer have stayed away from the plants these are near. I had 4 deer in the yard this morning but they were staying away from the areas with the deer fortress

[...]the packaging was not correct,it did not have stakes as shown, in fact it had hoops which were useless unless cut down to size. The first day of using the product it seemed to work but after that the deer started nibbling again until I used my spray that is effective. Maybe time will tell if it is worthwhile.

Dogs like to eat these things. The dried blood attracts them. I dont have cats, probably the same problem so keep the pets away but otherwise they are fabulous. Protect hostas, Phlox, Asters,Azaleas, Rhodos everything deer love

We have always had a tremendous probem with deer in our yard ... especially tough on our Azaleas and Hastas. We have tried all kinds of deer repellents over the years. We tried Deer Fortress last year and had no deer problems in the areas we put it. This year we doubled our order and placed more units around the yard and so far we have experienced no damage.

The deer fortress saved shrubbery and fruit trees from being devoured. One feature that I like about the product is that it lasts for so long! Spraying with deer -off and many other products have to be repeated after a rain. The deer fortress lasts for months!

Deer Fortress is filled with something like Blood Meal and after I have had it out several months, I open the canister and refill it WITH blood meal. The canister keeps the blood meal from washing away and disgusts the deer as well as what is originally shipped. The small loop on the top of the platic canister does break easily, which makes tying it to trees difficult.

I used this in conjunction with Liquid Fence and didn't have any deer problems this year. Also, it was nice that the discs were hidden, but still effective.

The deer hadn't been in my garden in 2 weeks, I thought I'd better put up a deterrent quick. I put these up as directed. The next morning the deer had been in and ate everything - it was as if this attracted them. They even ate things they hadn't eaten before that were near the deterrents. No deterrent at all! Big waste of money!

I have used this product the past two years. I attach the wire to garden stakes to get it up high enough above my hydrangeas and lilies. Both day lilies and true lilies.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I put a repellent in the middle of every hosta plant, but the hostas were eaten by deers anyway.

This is not a vegan product, but seems to be effective against deer. The package mentions that some animals may be attracted to it. Some kind of critter totally demolished one of them. The package instructions are a bit confusing in terms of how to use the metal stakes.

I am sorry to say that the deer were not deterred in the slightest...they munched right up to within centimeters of the deer fortess. I wish I had not spent the money as I would use it now to buy more plants!

We have almost no sun in the areas where I have planted hostas but I have had amazing success with them. Unfortunately my gardens are along hiking trails in our woods. Deer love both trails and hostas. No plants that are close to the deer fortresses have been eaten since except the ones that are too far from the fortresses. Perhaps next year I'll be able to purchase more at the begining of the season.

Not only did the deer ignore these, some other animal actually disasembled them. Deer ate all the plants that had these installed by them. Not a good purchase.

This product did not work at all. The deer were eating from the bird feeder right next to the hanger with the product. They continue to eat in my gardens even though they are walking right next to the product hangers, (up high as directed). I called the company since they guarantee the product. They said that I will get a credit/refund.

I use this in my vegetable garden where the deer had eaten all of my sweet peppers, and also where I have a new lilly garden that the deer found very delicious. Once I put these in, I bought new plants and, like magic, no more deer issues!!!

We tried putting this product in two different parts of Virginia - Richmond and Tidewater. Around perinneals and apple trees. The deer ate everything. I will go back to my old product even tho it is more expensive.

I have 4 hostas in by backyard that backs up to a thick wooded area. Deer inhabit this area. I love hostas so I planted them right where the deer come through. I used one unit for every 2 plants and my hostas are untouched. Great product.

I have a real problem with deer eating everything in my garden. I use liquid fence but sometimes forget to reapply. This is there all the time and so far so good. No munching on my plants!

I was very disappointed in the product. I installed 2 deer fortesses as instructed, in a garden along our driveway. It certainly did not deter deer and other animals; in fact, the first day out, some animal actually pulled the product from its stake, and basically destroyed the housing and anything in it.

I have spent a ton of money on liquid potions to scare the deer away that either killed my plants before the deer got to them or seemed to just add flavoring and were eaten anyway. NO MORE! I will from now on be using Deer Fortress. After living here for 3 years we are just now seeing plants grow to the point of looking like plants and flowers. BONUS - my bird feeder was also a deer feeder late at night and I hung one of these babies under neath the feeder and no more deer bonking my feeders and eating the food. Yes, with my own eyes I observed this, it's wasn't the squirrels....which were resolved with yet another method. Deer Fortress DRAWBACK - They are very expensive and it can add up quick if you want to properly protect a garden of any size and they are only effective in the immediate area of about a 2 foot radius. You literally need to create a "fence" using these things spaced no more than 3 - 4 feet apart depending on their freshness, however, they are much more effective than the sprays and they don't send my plants into shock and they are much more appealing than the deer netting which was sending my wife into shock. The alternative was some very expensive deer treats. RECOMENDATION for product manufacturer - make it more potent and reduce the price. Recomendation to everyone else who have deer problems - It's still early in the season and your plants still have a chance - order it NOW!

Deer herds prowl my yard, eating flowering plants and vegetables before they have a chance to blossom. So far, Deer Fortress is working fine. I would like the stakes to be taller, though, to reach the height of some of my lilies.

I found this product to be flimsy to set up. My dog just stole the first two and they broke as soon as he did. The ones that were left alone by my dog worked great for repelling the deer. I have alot of deer around and it is always a problem but this year the spots that have this repellent system has gone untouched by the deer. Good product as stated just needs to be more dog proof!

For several years a herd of 7 deer have feasted on my hosta in my "in-city" yard. When I started putting up the Fortress, they have been in the yard but have not visited the "deer Salad Bar." I did notice that its effectiveness is about three months. I also used more to surround the hosta bed than directions indicated. But I have recommended it to many gardner friends to their delight. Thanks for improving the shade garden.

I used the deer fortress around my hostas last summer. Not a single one was eaten. We live across the street from a game preserve, and we have deer in our yard almost daily. I was very impressed how well these little things worked!

i got these because the deer were decimating my hosta. when i set these out, i could easily smell the contents. nasty. however, i figured the deer would be put off by this. but they arent. i still have no hosta- only stalks.

I have read in my gardening magazines that dried blood of certain animals helps deter deer. When I came across this product I decided it would be worth a try. The scent extends up to 4 ft. so it covers a lot of territory. The deer are not happy with me this year but the feeling is mutual. This product is easier than spraying between rainstorms of which we've had many this year. I like the ease of application and the staying power.

The fortress seemed to work in some of my flower beds that didn't have hosta in them, but 4 feet apart is definitely too far apart to work near hosta. I found that the product worked for a radius of about one foot.

Unit did well with some plants but not with others. Very inconsistant. Protected hostas but not astibe 2 feet away. Deer ate half the hydranga bush and left the flowers on the other half alone. Protected young emerging flowers but not the lady thumb weed next to them.

I am not sure this works. I put two near five hosta plants. The first one in the line was partially eaten even though the device was less than two feet away. I went back to my old method of draping deer fencing over the row and haven't has any more damage. I also placed four in a row of peas and still had some damage.

The Deer Fortress was easy to install and was inconspicuous. However the deer seemed to ignore it. One was placed in the middle of the Black-eyed Susans and after only 2 weeks they were all eaten. Leaves were eaten that were 3 inches from the Fortress. Another was placed on the support for lilies and they too were eaten.

By this time last year,(mid-July), my Hosta plants would have been eaten down to the leaf stalks. This year having used Deer Fortress, I see all my Hosta's starting to flower with no plant damage due to deer.

If they could lower the price 25-50% these would be the perfect seasonal deer deterent. I used two packages when I really needed ten because of the cost. But they work well!

I am a plant collector and nothing is more depressing than to find a new $50 plant half eaten by deer. Deer Fortress canisters are great for protecting individual plants, easy to use, not messy or smelly. To defend a large area, like a hosta bed, you probably need more potent ammunition.
