I love this product. I was so tired of skunks and other critters digging up my vegetable garden. Peppers and other sprays/products just don't work, plus you have to re apply them every time you water. I have large planter boxes so I need a TON of these. I wish they came in strips rather than squares so I could cover more space with them, but I realize I might have an unusual situation. I put out many, bought more, but this time I think I will bury them a bit so the critters cannot see them as well. It will be a lot more work but since they are permanent it might be worth it. I am placing a few rows around the perimiter of the boxes.

These really do work to discourage my cats. My only complaint is that I wish there were a bigger, brawnier size for dogs! I have tried staking several of them down in an area where one of my dogs loves to dig. It slows him down for awhile, but eventually he just ignores them and digs away.

I bought several (5) pkgs of these to deter the neighbor's small dog from urinating on several azaleas, and so far they seem to be working. (Here's hoping the azaleas bounce back!)
The only drawback is the size, which is why I ordered several pkgs. But I wanted to make sure I could cover the area around the azaleas, to help protect them from futher damage.

We got this out of desperation, to try and keep neighborhood cats from using a strip of front yard closest to our house as a litterbox. So far, so good, in fact, my husband just told me to order more. The only downside is that these aren't huge, so if you have a relatively large area you'll need to purchase a lot. In total, we'll have spent about $100 to cover the entire area. On the plus side, they will last for years, and if the cats stay away (and no harm to them), we are happy.

I mostly use these when I direct sow seeds outside or when I have small, delicate seedlings. My cats like to roll and burrow in the dirt and these keep the cats from destroying the plants before they get started, or carrying the seed around other places in their fur. I secure mine in place with garden staples. You do have to be careful to get the mats out of the way before the plants get too big if you want to use them somewhere else or if you are growing root veggies.

I have used them inside to prevent my cats from using my indoor plants as litter boxes. That worked well, too. I cut the mats to fit smaller or irregularly shaped areas.

I have a tall fence which allows the neighbor's free roaming cats to get into my trees and eat the bird eggs from the nests.
I attached the scat mats to the top of the fence with cable ties.
The cats tried walking across them once but it was easy to see it was uncomfortable for them. After one try, the cats stopped walking the entire length of the fence.
This means more baby birds and less cat poop in my garden!

These spikes are very expensive. Rough rocks (not river rocks) work just as well. Indoors, you can use rocks on top of pots or carpet protectors from a used furniture store.

This is the best invention ever for keeping my house cats out of my large indoor plants. No more cats digging in the dirt and using it as an extension of their litter boxes. They were simple to place on the dirt. They were brown to match the dirt so they did not look out of place with my decor. I bought these to deter my kitten, who liked to scratch in the dirt and drop things into the flowerpots with amaryllis and paperwhite bulbs. He never used the pots as a litter box, but his playing in the pots was going to hurt the plants and it did make a big mess as he scattered the dirt and peat moss on the counter. The mats are good in that they deter him a little, but he likes to nibble the spikes and because the mats are rectangular, they do not cover all of the pot unless I cut them up and destroy them. Some half-round mats designed specifically for indoor use in pots - i.e., with a cutout for plant stems - would be a good addition to your product line.
I would recommend these for outdoor use more than for indoor.

While my outdoor cats were having to stay inside away from home, I used the product to keep them from digging in indoor potted plants. It worked for awhile, until one discovered he could pull it up with his claws. I had cut it into pieces to fit the pot---perhaps if the soil had been more dense, or if I had been able to leave it whole, he might not have been able to pull it up.

Suddenly the soil in several of our houseplants started to go missing...and was found when we picked up dog poop. HMMM didn't take much to figure out what was happening. We got some Cat scat mats and not so much as a nose print in the soil! We just trimmed a hole for the stems, and placed it around the plants. A permanent, nontoxic way to keep dogs from eating the soil. I was afraid it would be very ugly, but no one has noticed them yet except the dogs.

Did a great job of keeping the neighbor's cat out of my raised bed garden; which it had tried to take over while I was in a non-walking cast for a few months. I took the old soil and cat donations out and replaced the soil. Then put in my plants and put veggie cages around them; and between the cages placed the cat scats. These are probably fine for intended use. One of our cats decided to use bathtub for urine litter pan when she was upstairs. I ordered the cat scats to discourage her. The small size and 5 pieces require more effort to place & pick up than I had expected. They do work, however, if other large items are added for coverage, so probably are fine for limited garden use.

In desperation I used Cat-Scat to try to keep squirrels from uprooting my annuals, especially impatiens in window boxes. Squirrels wouldn't dig in the ground level beds for impatiens but tossed the freshly planted impatiens out of my six window boxes. When I trimmed Cat-Scat to fit into sections about 3"x4" or 5" big to surround each plant, the squirrels never touched them. My original set of mats lasted about 5 years and a few but not all are showing their age so I'm ordering some more as backup for next season. My arthritic thumbs found the plastic easy to cut with kitchen shears.

My cat lives INDOORS only, and occasionally used my indoor plant pots as her downstairs bathrooms. I tried cedar mulch, double-sided sticky tape, several products from the pet store, and squirting her with the water gun if I caught her. I was successful with the water gun, but who wants to stand guard over their houseplants 24/7? With these mats, she hops into the pot and right back out of the pot! No more standing guard with the water gun.

I tried chicken wire (ugly), smelly stuff (smelly) and would have tried the hose that goes off when something gets in front of it (no outdoor faucet) before I tried this to keep the area cats from digging and defecating in my planter beds. I should have tried this first. It's practically invisible and while it looks like it would be painful, the spikes are flexible so if it's used as suggested (avoiding areas where the animal would jump from a height) it offers just enough deterrent that the cats have been going elsewhere. I would recommend using the longer garden staples over what's built in to secure them, though.

I have several raised beds with loose, sandy soil that root vegetables, and unfortunately, the neighborhood cats, really love. So far, the scat mats have kept the cats at bay. They were a little hard to "install" as the tabs to place in the ground were a bit stiff. However, with moist enough soil, that problem was eased. At this point, I am seeing some of the mats push up a little as the plants are growing through them. I don't yet know if they will eventually come up entirely. However, they have definitely served their purpose of humanely teaching the cats that my garden is not their spot. I don't worry any more. The time NOT spent chasing, getting my blood pressure up, etc, makes these items worth the purchase price.

This product works best in smaller areas. I wish that something could be made for larger areas without such a great cost, especially since it is made of recycled material (and in England to boot!). I tried usinng them in my rasied garden beds to protect my pants fromt he cats. The quickly learned to walk and dig arround them causeing just as much damage. Might work well for potted plants. Cages worked better to keep cats away.

Finally!!! A product that really works to keep the feral cats out of the garden bed. Our flower beds always smelled of cat urine until we got the scat mats. No more!! I actually bought these to put on the chairs on my porch. There are two wild cats that live in my backyard (which I like because they keep away the moles and control the chipmunk population..) that have taken to sleeping on my porch in my cushioned chairs. The chairs are always full of hair and burrs, so I want to keep them off without harming them. This product worked, but I had hoped they would be a bit larger....it took all five for just one chair and it is an expensive product to buy one set for each chair I own.

This product is a great idea but, the light weight nature makes it too easy for the cat to move it about and out of the way. The plastic tabs are too flimsy and too short to penetrate the dirt effectively....to hold it in place. I had to use long pronged garden anchors to keep it where it was needed. Otherwise, a wonderful idea that is harmless to wildlife.

I bought the scat mats to deter cats from using the garden as a litter box and disturbing tiny seedlings with their digging and scratching. I put the seedlings in, installed the scat mats.....and the cats still used the garden as a litter box, they just dragged the scat mats around when they were covering their [*]. Our kitties were digging up the plants in the sunroom! I used these plastic strips (I've tried everything tin-foil, etc.)and it all stopped. It doesn't hurt them, but it sure keeps them out of the plants.

You do have to cut them up and put them where you want them.

Our kitten can't resist dirt - and indoors it's right there for her in my big houseplants. What a mess she made all over the floors--until I remembered my old catscats. An excellent product that does what it says, protect your plants from the lazy kitty! Ever had that sinking feeling when you've put in a lot of hard work to get your seeds or seedlings planted only to find the next day that your precious kitties have 'used' the pots/containers as 'restrooms'? Well, put down some scatmats and the kitties will go find somewhere else! The 1" long plastic spikes deter the lazy kitty, they don't want to step in because of the spikes. They won't harm the kitty either, they bend easily but deter just by being there. Cut the sheets into whatever shape you want and use the built-in downward facing spike to anchor them in place. The product works well, but you get very little for a big price. Their cost for making these can't be more than a dollar (probably less), and yet they charge you an arm and a leg to get enough to cover a tiny patch. If you want enough to cover a useful amount of space you have to bankrupt yourself. I expected better ethics from these guys. Buy chicken wire instead--works well and is much cheaper.

We bought this product to place behind our neighbor's bushes in the soil which our cats were using as a "litterbox." The product does seem to have worked so far, but, for the price, these mats are just too small. I should have looked more carefully at the size listed in the description, because the picture made them look large. These are, after all, just small pieces of plastic with spokes... why on earth they cost as much as they do I don't know. They really should cost no more than $8. I would have liked to have had more to fully cover the area of concern, but instead had to cut them up and place "strategically." The product allowed me to apply a soil treatment to a house plant and not worry about the cats getting into the exposed soil. I was surprised by how many of the spiked screens came in the box. I love my new cat and thought I would need to get rid of some of my larger indoor and deck planters when she decided to claim them as litter boxes. I use this product in our flower garden, its' a relatively small garden, but just the same, cats have been making undesirable deposits. Since I placed the product along the inside perimeter and strategically in the center areas . . . there has been no evidence of cat deposits. This is the most effective product that I have found to keep the neighbor's cat out of my flower beds. All that fresh, lovely soil is just too irresitible for the neighborhood cats so I was pleased to find a safe humane way to discourage them. The mats do need additional pins to secure them and the kitties are pretty good at finding unprotected spots, but this is a wonderful product.

This product is extremely easy to install around your plantings. I purchased the long metal staples the catalog offers, but did not end up using them. The mat comes with its own attachments which work extremely well.
The mats were placed around my boxwood bushes about a month ago to keep the neighborhood cats away from urinating on them. These are smaller that I thought but they are easy to cut apart and place around the plants. I have squirrels that are determined to dig up everything on my balcony. Repellants and hot pepper are useless. So far though these seem to work. I noticed they tried to dig around one but gave up. The prongs are long enough to keep them anchored.

Use around trees to keep cats from climbing out of cat-protective yard. Wrap around trees and hook together with twist ties loosely - don't hurt tree!
The twist ties can be released as the tree grows and the cats won't climb beyond the cat scat mats. Don't ever hurt the tree by having them too tight!!!

I bought these as squirrel deterrent, because they keep digging in my planters and "planting" corn and peanuts, etc. It's only been a month or so since I deployed them, so I'm still reserving judgement, but so far it seems to be working...IF I can get them down before the critters get to the plants. In the newly-planted perennial beds, the squirrels have already dub a few holes before I got the scat mats; I put them down in few key areas, and they don't seem to have re-ravaged the planted areas. But the mats are very expensive...it'll cost perhaps close to 100 dollars to have enough mats to protect all the planters as well as the new beds.

I tried this item on the first area I planted. After I got it down and covered with some straw mulch, it occurred to me that it is wanting on some of its design. For the price, the area of coverage is small. So the cat can easily walk around it and it comes out as a bit expensive. The spikes could be made longer because if you cover it up with mulch, in my case I used straw, so as to "hide" it, the spikes would hardly be noticeable. On the plus side, if you don't use mulch and just lay it directly on the ground and the cat steps on it and not go around it, I think it will feel the spikes. Overall, this product can be handy in spite of its design shortcomings.

I used the cat scat around the edges of my gardens. It was difficult to get the plastic arrows to stay in the ground. I set them on top and covered them with pine bark mulch. Just deployed this product the other day, so don't know about its efficacy, although it seems like a brilliant way to permanently dissuade cats from using an area as a litterbox. However, the pictures of the mats on the website and the expensive price made me think that the mats would be quite large and could cover a big area. When they arrived, I was shocked to see that they were only slightly larger than a washcloth! So, after all that expense, I'm not sure they will even work to cover the area they need to cover, let alone cover an additional area that I had hoped to put them in. I tried some to keep squirrels and chipmunks from digging up bulbs and flowers, and liked them enough to buy more. They aren't 100% effective, but they do make the plants a less attractive target, so the damage is far less. As others have noted, they do tend to pop out the ground and get moved unless you secure them somehow--those metal "staples" are a good idea.

I purchased these to use in my house plants to keep my playful kitty out! At first she just pulled them, dirt and all, out onto the carpet. So I tried using some of the easy-out earth staples to secure them. That has worked great!!! The too short stakes attached are too flimsy to be of much use for this application.

I bought this product as a last ditch effort to keep the squirrels from jumping from my arbor to the bird feeders. I tacked the cat scat mats along the edge of the arbor where the squirrels like to jump from and "it worked". They do not like to step on it and can't get enough air lift jumping from further back to land on the feeding station roof. I'm sure that as I'm typing this they are back there chewing up the mats. ;-)

These scat mats are meant to be put on the ground to discourage cats from "scratching and doing their business" in gardens. I bought them for neighbors who are not fond of my 8 wonderful cats. One lady, of whom I'd inquired about the mats usefulness, said she had a hard time putting the anchors in the soil. I would think you'd need a trowel to "slice" the soil to insert the anchor unless your soil is very soft. In that case I don't think the anchor would hold them in place.

The idea is good, but I think you need a good-sized expanse of these mats and a longer anchor. You're supposed to cut the mats into 4--and they seemed REALLY small to me.

The cats in my neighborhood had taken to using my Asparagus and Garlic gardens as litter boxes. I did not want to put anything chemically, or even chili pepper on them, as I have a young daughter but this worked great. I have not had one "gift" in me garden since putting these inside it. We have a number of feral cats in the neighborhood along with numerous squirrels, a couple groundhogs, opossums, and raccoons. The Cat Scat Mats work to keep them all out of my planter boxes.

This is a great concept until the cats start to dig then they move the cat scat mats, so be sure to buy the earth staples to keep them in place.

The color of the "cat scat mats" was same as microbark, therefore easy to conceal in the garden. However, my dog dug up everyone we placed, carried them around and ate them.

My mother was plagued by stray cats using her vinca bed as a litter box. I put down three of the scat mats and the problem has been solved! They are easy to use and very effective. Great product!

We have a lot of potted plants (BIG pots) in the house that the recently rescued male cat we took in had decided were a good place to act feral inside the house. These spikes, when strategically located, do keep him out while not being too visible to upset the aesthetics of the plants.

...my kitten figured out how to remove the spike panels. Up umtil that point, we were thrilled at the way these spike panels really curtailed her "gardening" tendencies. No more messes to clean up! Then one day, we saw her carefully using her claws to pull the device out of the dirt, and she never looked back. Our plants are back in one room behind a closed door. Smart kitty!

Cats no longer use my flower beds for their litter box. They were able to move them out of the way, but once I put the stakes I purchased in, they are perfect!

I purchased two sets of the Cat Scat Mats for my mother who is tormented by squirrels digging in her outdoor flower pots. She had tried all manner of remedies from moth balls and red pepper to hooting plastic owls and black metal cats. Nothing seemed to work...until now! She is delighted with the look and effectiveness of her new mats. My only criticism is that the attached stakes that are meant to keep them in place don't really do the trick. However, they're not that necessary so overall, Mother (and I!) are very pleased!

The squirrels were sitting on my potted plants and digging out the seeds that fell in from a nearby bird feeder. They killed one plant so I put the mats in with the replacement plant. Still growing and blooming as the squirrels no longer sit there.

I found a new use for these cat scat mats. My six cats love to open all the sliding doors to closets. I put a scat mat right up against the doors, just on the carpet with the "pins" sticking up. Now the doors stay closed. It works great.

Was having a problem with the neighborhood cats using my new raised bed as their personal cat box. Put Cat Scat mats in some strategic places (didn't even have to completely cover the open ground) and the kitties are now gone. The built-in "stakes" (to hold them in the ground) are a bit difficult to use, but OK.

feral cats were eating every leaf off my mint and basil and using my herb garden as a cat box killing the plants they did not eat. I did not want to use chemical sprays, etc. these spike mats solved my problem. i used the "easy to pull out and move around" stakes to secure it and life is good again.

My neighbor complained about my cat (she thinks) digging in her flower boxes, so I got these for her to use. She is thrilled with them. Good neighbor relations are restored. I'm trying them in other places on the ground. So far, so good. Thanks!

I love the mats and the neighborhood cats don't! I would need hundreds, though, even in my tiny yard to really deter them, and the cost would be prohibitive.

I have Gardeners self watering window boxes, and
herb pots. The squirrels were digging in all of them. I solved the herb problem with netting and the window box problem with this product.
P.S. the squirrels keep giving me dirty looks.

I have many large potted plants that I like to put outdoors in the summer, but the chippies and squirrels like to bury their nuts in them, and they don't do it neatly! These mats are an easy, light weight, permanent solution.

I use these under my bird feeder where I have flowers planted to deter the squirrels from digging up my flowers.. DID help keep the cats out.. but the chipmunks dig underneath and constantly move them and dig them up.. The squirrels are not always deterred by these..

I have a couple of areas in my yard where the neighborhood cats will hide and jump out at unsuspecting birds, like under my lawn funiture and the in flowers around the bird bath. I can easily place the Cat Scat pieces in these areas to deter the cats from hiding there and giving the birds a chance.

We've been looking for a humane way to keep the neighborhood cats out of "tempting" areas, particularly dirt areas around trees and flower boxes. Nothing seemed to work and we were getting extremely frustrated with the cats using these areas as litter boxes. We saw the ad for these plastic devices, bought a couple of sets, and installed them when they arrived. The installation was simple and they appear to be really working. So far so good. Areas have remained "dropping" free for a couple of months. Great product.

I have several cats who love to dig. Prior to the Cat Scat Mats, I had to put pine cones and stones into my house plants, making them heavy or encouraging new little pine trees. The mats are easy and really work. They aren't the prettiest things, but neither is dirt on the floor! They blend in okay with the soil, but they could be a bit darker in color.

The idea is good but the cats just scratched the Scat Mats out of the pots and did their business anyway.

These mats did nothing to keep the cats from digging in my garden where I had laid them flat as recommended. They were fabulous however for keeping the cats from using my young trees as scratching posts. I wrapped the mats around the tree trunk and fastened them with a layer of bird netting. The bird netting wasn't enough on it's own to deter the cats. Together they work great! I now have healthy bigger trees.

I have a cat that seemed determined to get into a snake terrarium to the point of standing on top of it. I lined every inch on top of it with these things and while they work initialy the're easy for him to push out of the way. If there is any space in between each of these, a cat will just step over them. so unless the space you're trying to protect is 2'x2' square and you can staple it in place its not worth it.

We are using your Cat Scat Mats creatively to keep doves and other birds from nesting in areas where their droppings can fall over tourists in our guest house at the beach. We have found that it is a humane way to direct them toward other areas, such as trees. Before using the Scat Mats, their droppings were a nightmare.

If only the Scat Mats came in white or could be painted in the same colors we use for the walls outside, and if we could buy some good adhesive to keep them in place forever! Maybe you could also make them in a larger size!

This product solved many annoyances for me. Cut down & applied to the top of a suet feeder, it deters starlings & crows from feeding but doesn't bother other more agile birds. Stapled on the top edge of my garden gate it detered raccoons from getting on my roof & possibly my attic.... This product works very well to keep animals out of my flower beds.

Finally! The neighborhood cat is no longer using the areas as its private litter box. I particularly like the fact that the cat scat is plastic and can be used yearly.

The cat scat mats did not keep our neighbor's cat out of my flower beds. I think that I would have to use and exhorbitant number of mats in order to have success. Thank goodness the neighbors have replaced their cat with a dog!

Marmalade (cat) no longer naps in the pot, so my bulbs & seeds have a chance to germinate without being flattened.
