The adhesives tabs are way too flimsy, and cannot be replaced once used. You might consider adding replacement pads as well as an alternative method of attaching to door frame such as grommets that can have thumbtacks pushed through them.

We have this screen on our doorway into our screened in porch. We also purchased the french door screen going into the house and we won't need it because the smaller one works so well. Great idea, very simple to use. However, should have a couple different rod pockets to work with individual door heights. Because my door happens to be a little shorter, there tends to be a gapping in the net, which will allow bugs in. Also, should have more than one magnetic closure on the screen, that will also help for gapping I think. The tension rod also seems to lose tension a little too easily--especially when you have tall people passing through it. I must say, the unbearable door slamming of our beautiful french doors does not happen when this is in place, which is the original reason I did purchase it. A few tweaks, and this is the perfect screen door!
The benefits outweigh the drawbacks!

Our sliding glass door does not hold an average sliding screen. In the spring, we needed some sort of a screen door in order to have air flow through the house. This seemed like a perfect solution and it would also allow the dogs to go in and out as they like to do. This screen is a great concept but when it arrived, I felt like the price was a little high for what it was and how it functions. There is a magnet in the middle of the height of the door and one at the bottom. the screen does NOT automatically re-close itself as you go through it. It comes close but there is almost always an open gap. The screen provides more coverage than if you didn't have it, but seems if more and stronger magnets were added to the opening, it would work MUCH better. The screen material overlaps in the middle by about 2 inches. It seems like if there was a bit more overlap with more and stronger magnets, this product would be more effective. The tension rod that holds the screen in place is not very heavy duty and after walking in and out, or over 3 to 4 days of normal use, the rod has to be tightened to stay in place.

I am using this screen in the opening in my basement. I now can leave the bulkhead door open and not worry about flies and bees getting into my basement. A far cheaper solution than ordering a custom-sized screen door. When I have to move anything large into or out of my basement I simply remove the screen. It really works!

We have a smaller door, and I am tall so it just took a few times through the screen to learn how to duck my head just a little and make perfect exits and entrances. We have two doors to a patio and no room for a screen door. These screens fit well, are easy to install, are easy to go through, just as advertised. When the weather is nice, we can leave the doors open and our dogs can go in and out at their pleasure-so convenient. We use this as our pet door as we have a fenced yard. The first one we bought closed completely but this one is a little larger with more rigid bottom support. Since our door opening is on the small side of the range, the bottom magnet does not meet perfectly. It does do the job of keeping bugs out very well anyway. Had it out of the box and installed in less than 5 mins! This alone made me like this screen, but it also works fairly well. It doesn't always close all the way, and our dogs periodically pull it away from the door frame, but since it's attached by velcro, this is no problem! Since we used to just leave our door standing open and had no screen door, this has been a great solution since we knew we'd never get around to actually installing a screen door.

I have a greenhouse and when it is very warm (read hot as....) I leave the door open and birds have found how to get in and then they panic and can't find there way out. I actually had a nesting pair 2 years ago and I have to admit it was very funny watching the parents trying to convince the chicks it was time to leave. However, they are messy and when they fly onto delicate plants they do damage. The screen has been very helpful to me in keeping the greenhouse cleaner.- Many fewer moths etc.also.

The screen doesn't close well unless you are careful and you help it close just the right way. Even then, there are lots of gaps where insects can come through. It may be that our doorway opening is a little too narrow (even though it's well within the range in the literature that came with it). I bought it for our back porch so we wouldn't have to constantly open and shut a door for the dogs and kids going out to the backyard and pool. Works great to keep out the bugs (when it is closes properly)and allows the dogs to go in and out throughout the day but the opening is not easy for the kids and adults to go through unless we take the sides off the velcro strips which then defeats the whole purpose of keeping the bugs out. The tension rod does not always stay tight so sometimes it falls and bumps people on their heads.

We have a screened in porch that previously had a wooden door to the outside. Our Pug would not use a doggie door under any circumstances, so we ended up propping the door open so he could come and go as he wished. This led to many birds getting caught on the porch and sometimes making their way into the house. When we saw this screen in the magazine, we knew it would be the perfect solution! Installation was a breeze, and our fickle Pug has no problems pushing his little face through the screen to get in and out of the house. Best of all - no more bird droppings on the porch! The magnets are very strong and snap shut behind you easily. I have had no problems getting in and out even when my hands are full. I just push right through behind my little Puggy. I have recommended this to many friends. My only complaint is that it's a little pricey, but I think it's worth the cost.

This was very easy to install. The 32" width was right for our door. However, the length was lacking an inch. As a result, there is a gap at the bottom which could let critters enter the house. I've sprayed outside the door to eliminate ants and bugs. Hopefully, this will last during the summer.

We love open doors and windows on cool days but not the bugs. Our dogs break regular screens so this was great having the split in the middle and magnetic closures. One of our 3 dogs loves running through it and has sometimes pulled it down by going through too fast. Some bugs can get through gaps if it's not pulled tight too. Overall this is a very well made product. It allows me to leave the door open and enjoy the fresh air. My only problem with it is that it isn't quite long enough. Coming into the house the bottom also comes in. The magnet is too strong! Going out with hands full is still difficult. You need one hand to undo the magnet. The idea is great and I will put up with these little inconveniences because the pluses outweigh the negatives.

The magnets that hold the curtain together are too tough to separate. I never attached the velcro at the edges because it was clear from the start that this was not going to work for us. Too bad. I think a simple net curtain without all those closure components would work better.

I bought this instead of a permanent screen door for my sunroom because I wanted my cats to be able to get in and out without letting the flies & wasps in. I just clip the bottom back about 6 inches (I can't get them to push the magnet apart at the bottom) & they come and go as they please. No bugs! I'm thrilled with this purchase.

I replaced the screen for my slider door twice last year because my dogs either scratched at it to be let in and ripped it, or simply just ran through the screen not realizing or caring that it was in the way. I figured I would try this screen - and I am so happy that I did! It only took about 3 minutes to install! My dogs now just let themselves in and out and the magnetic closure usually closes the screen automatically. If it is too windy, the screen will blow and if the magnets don't get close enough they won't catch, but other than that this is a great product and I highly recommend it. I've had 2 friends come to the house who have a similar problem with their dogs and they too have ordered it and love it.

I am using this screen to replace the sliding screen I have at my back door. You will have to adjust the tension of the rod holding the screen from time to time as the spring inside becomes compressed. You will know when to do this when the top of the screen starts to fall down. It fastens to the side of the door frame with velcro. I don't see this holding up very long. You need to tend to the screen when you walk through it and it is not a truly self closing door. It doesn't open very wide either. It is good because the dogs can come inside and out freely, but they often step on the screen and I need to adjust it. I don't think I would spend the money on this again. We have noticed more bugs inside than usual.

This bug screen proved to be the solution for helping our cats to access a garden room. They can nose their way in while the screen stays in place most of the time. Only problem was securing the rod on which the screen is mounted. I screwed a bottle cap into the door jamb to hold the rod ends in place after it fell off several times.

I purchased my screen earlier this summer and I have been very delighted with it. I wanted something that would keep flies out of the mud room where I feed my animals but would let my animals come and go at will. It has been everything that I hoped. My animals (dog and cat) needed a little help getting used to the opening in the middle, the cat got the idea sooner than the dog, (I helped a little by proping the screen open at the bottom at first) and now--in September--they both navigate it freely. It has kept the flies out, allowing me to have the door open on nice days without flies.

We put this up so we could give the dog the freedom to come and go and keep the bugs out. It's been very effective. The magnets keep the screen closed without having to slide a door, and the dog doesn't paw it, shredding the screening. At night when the lights are on, the bugs do find their way in, but its much better than previously.

This is good in that it is easy to walk through and the dogs (5 dachshunds) can go through it when the want to go out (we have the invisible fence and leave their collars on during the day, so when we are home, we let them go in/out, as they choose).

When we first put it up they had some issues with getting back in (I would suggest some training/assistance until they get used to it). One of my dachshunds thought she couldn't get back in, so she clawed on the side of it and it did rip.

I can leave my back door open without worry about flies coming into my kitchen. It is really nice to be able to get the breeze without the flies. The dogs go freely in and out without having to whine or scratch at the door for someone to open it.

The only negative comment is that it is sometimes awkward to get through if one has an armload, such as a tray of food for the patio. My suggestion is to have a small loops about halfway up along both sides so that the screen could be hooked back away from the doorway when going in and out with those picnic trays.

I had to make a custom jig from wood and rare earth magnets to effectively mount it to a sliding door, so the maker might want to develop a mounting system for sliders...

The jury is still out on this screen. It was easy to install, took only a few minutes. The downside is that when you go through it, you have to make sure the magnets reconnect to keep the bugs from coming through the opening, which is why I rated it only 4 stars. Seals well around the door once you adjust it. There are magnets at the bottom and 1/3 the way up.
Would be better if there was a magnet 2/3 way up as well, as the netting tends to sag and produce a gap between the netting around chest height. That being said, we are buying another one anyway, as they beat screen doors.

This hands-free screen, plus an invisible fence around our yard, has made our dogs' lives and ours much easier! The dogs can now come and go as they wish from house to yard. And of course it's great for us to be able to walk out to the deck with our hands full and not fuss with opening and closing the door. The screen installed very easily. I wish the center overlapped more generously and closed with another magnet or two. The instructions indicate that one should hold the right side of the screen open for a moment longer than the left to insure a good seal when it closes. That's fine if you have your hands free, but not if you're holding something -- and of course the dogs just rush through, often leaving a gap in the center. Even then, the screen succeeds in keeping most bugs out.

Compared with other screens I looked at, this was a snap to install and can easily be taken down. Although you can velcro the sides to the door frame, the weight of the magnets at the bottom holds the screens in place just fine. Our lab bent both of our screen doors last summer so we figured this was the thing for us after reading all the reviews. It only took him a few days to figure out he could go in and out by himself. It doesn't close correctly all the time but it does a good enough job. My husband and I are both fairly tall and have to bend down a little to avoid hitting the overlapping of the panels at the top. Other than that we're pleased. The price was good and the quality of the screen if very good.

I'm actually using this as a doggy door which they don't recommend and it is working quite well. I had to add more adhesive tabs on the sides to hold it in place. This is an absolutely great product for the price. We have a big dog that likes to go between our two structures (office and house). The doors are open all day long and there are alot of bugs in San Diego. These screens definitely keep them out of the house and office and we saved money. They are easy to put up and don't look to shabby.The only thing that you need to buy (IF you have a big dog) would be something to hold them more in place because the dog doesn't understand how to go through them slowly:-) and sometimes takes them down with him. I bought the screens for the doors at our office as we don't have screen doors, and no windows that open, so when the sun is pouring through the windows it can get quite warm inside. The office staff had been just proping the doors open, but we were afraid of bugs or rodents getting in. These screens were the perfect solution. I had the first one up in about 5 minutes!! The overlapping panels are a big improvement over a single panel attached at one side, like a door, because you don't have to pull apart the velcro every time you want to get out. I WANT to like it, and it's great idea, but the product is unfortunately poorly engineered and severely overpriced. For example, the overlap is barely adequate and contains only one warped, plastized magnet half way down to keep the center slit closed when a half dozen smaller and far stronger magnets are called for to do the job for this weight of mesh. All in all, it's about $9.95 worth of materials and effort for five times the price.

My apartment has a sliding patio door that doesn't have a screen door. I was told I could buy one if I wanted to. I bought one of these instead (so I can take it with me). I use the screen leading out to my deck. We like entertain a lot outside. I have two dogs and three kids, who have constantly destroyed my pre existing screen door. The front door on my 130 year old house is an odd size. We recently renovated our front porch and the only thing missing was a screen door. We ordered a Hands Free Bug Screen and it has solved our problems. From a distance, it is not noticeable, so it does not distract from the door. What makes it even better than a screen door is that the dogs can go in and out as they please without bothering me. You have to follow the instructions though, if you do not open it the recommended width before installing it, it will fall down. It takes some muscle to get it in place, but once it's in - that's it.

I tried the hands free screen on my back door and there were a few gaps that weren't sufficent bug protection in our Minnesota location with lots of mosquitoes and small bugs. I put it on my garden shed door and it keeps out flies and wasps and I can go in and out with my hands full or dirty and not touch the screening. Our cat also went in and out and the screen shut well behind him. So, while it didn't work for the application I had intended it for I found a good use for it.

We purchased the Hands Free Bug Screen to use during the summer months for our front door. This entry looks best without a screen. Using it in the summer provides cool breeze through the house and protects against bugs and insects.

This is my second screen. I leave it up year round. It is child and pet friendly. I have had many compliments and have been asked where I got it. The Houston heat causes the glue to fail, but is easy to replace. Love it, love it. I would buy another when this one wears out.

When I saw the Hand Free Bug Screen in your magazine I was very happy. I have two small dogs
and every time they want to go out I have to stop what ever I'm doing and open the back door. I ordered the screen right a way, put it up as soon as I got it. I show my two pups how to use it and they love it, but not as much as I . They have that freedom to run in and out to the back yard. Now I don't have to stop and continue being a door person.

This screen door is so easy to install and easy to take down and store in the Fall. Perfect for an apartment where space is at a premium. We have one leading to our deck and another at the fire escape. My dog slips through to the deck and the magnetic closures shut the screen behind her. It has been 100% effective at keeping out flying insects. We have had favorable comments from friends who have ordered for their homes or apartments after seeing ours.

Hands free bug screen is easy to install and keeps the bugs out. However it doesn't open very wide and is difficult to walk through especially if you're carrying a tray of food or drinks.

The door screen was a good answer to the problem of constantly having to let our dog in and out. He took only a few tries to learn that he could "walk through" the screen. I have seen many less bugs in the house since we added the screen

My condo does not have screen doors leading out onto three decks. These screens work great in the summer and I store them for the winter to let in more light. I can also take them with me when I move.

very useful for the dogs to go in and out on their own on nice days. Not "airtight" but keeps most of the bugs out during the day. Not effective at night since screen does not seal to doorway.

I needed something that would allow cross ventilation and yet keep the bugs out.A permanent screen door wasn't an option. The old dog figured out how to go out through the bug screen with no problems and the magnet would shut it again. My one complaint is that after one season and a winter, when I took the screens down and stored them, the velcro on the door frame was not effective the second year.The stickum didn't survive more than one year. I had to purchase new velcro to put on the door frame, but with our long, cold winters, it's no wonder the adhesive didn't hold up.I purchased a longer piece so that I could attach it with the stickum and also with small nails. Then when visiting dogs or children stress the velcro, it holds more securely.

Ordered for my parents (81 & 79). They love this item also. We enter the home through the garage and this keeps the little bugs and critters OUT of the house. Wish they made a longer one for the garage doors. 8x7 is not log enough. I have told friends of this and they have ordered it and love it.

I use this rather than let air conditioner run. My dogs can run in and out without the netting going askew. Much better than others I've seen.

This bug screen took only minutes to put up and is easy to take down as well. For people who have the new type of doors that are so well insulated that they don't need a storm/screen door, this is the perfect thing to use when you want to leave your door open for ventilation in the summer. It doesn't keep every last bug out at night when you have the lights on ... the moths often find a way to get in. However, mosquitoes aren't as clever and they don't seem to get in. Although it is easy to walk through, some care must be taken to close the middle and bottom magnet to ensure maximum protection. It was a nice touch to make the velcro piece that goes on the door frame white, so it matches your trim (if it is white). If your trim is not white, then when you take the screen down (you are supposed to leave the velcro up), then the velcro on the frame will be visible.
Overall, a pretty good design.
I have recommended this already to three friends who have front doors without a storm/screen door.

This product is perfect for our house it keeps the bugs out and we can now sleep at night without the buzz of mosquitos. The dogs can go in and out without having to scratch at the screen doors or run through which happen previously with a conventional screen door.

We like to keep the door between our 2nd floor apartment and our covered 2nd floor porch open in the summer and don't like the aesthetics of installed screen doors, so decided to try this alternative. It cut down dramatically on the number of flies getting into the apartment, while being pretty easy to pass through. (It can be awkward to carry piled-up plates through it, but manageable.) Highly recommended.

I really WANTED to love this product! I needed a screen for my back door which would not need to be attached to the beautiful (and expensive) wood surrounding it. I think the idea for this screen is great - it hangs up like a curtain rod. However in practice we've had a few problems with it:
1. The rod seems to loosen fairly quickly on its own so that even the slightest movement of the screen causes the whole thing to come off - I am constantly readjusting it which is very annoying.
2. My husband has to duck his head a lot to get through! It's not good for taller people (he's 6'2")
3. With hands full it is hard to open - often leading to number 1!

I think with some design improvement this could be a great device. I am yet to find the perfect screen that will work with my back door...

We have two wireless outdoor thermometers mounted in the doorway where it hangs. I was afraid we would have to move those but it fit anyway. Also, when we know we will have lots of traffic going through the door, we just take it down while that is occuring and put it back up afterwards. The magnet at the bottom will stick to our metal kitchen door so the cat can come and go at leisure.

My mother has an older house with no screens on doors or windows. I purchased this product to allow for a breeze from outside and to keep flies and mosquitoes out while doing so. It was so easy to put up and I even move the ones I have between doors when needed. It couldn't be easier and the quality of materials is great. I highly recommend this product.
