Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

These bags are the best way to grow vegetables. I have a garden and the vegetable bags grew better vegetables than my garden! They are the best. So easy to water and the water is not wasted. Next year I'm growning everything in bags!

I have had great results. I especially like the idea that I can position the bags in-between my raised beds. When I am finished, just fold and store. It really makes gardening fun, even for a novice as well as an experienced gardener.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

We purchased your grow bags and potatoes this spring. Our ground grows rocks, very inhospitable to any root crops. We thought this growing system, placed on a concrete pad, would finally allow us to have at least a small potato harvest.
Despite following Gardeners' instructions and making sure they all were watered through the hottest, dryest summer in 30 yrs., our efforts were rewarded with 2 small potatoes, not much larger than those we planted. Admittedly, our raised beds did not produce as well as usual, but we did harvest enough from them to make the effort worthwhile.
We may try these again next year, but for this season they have been an expensive failure.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

How much and what kind of soil to put in , how to water was not clear enough because it didn't work for me. And now I don't know how to try again. Do I empty the old soil? Does it need to be outside? I was trying to grow it in a growing dome because of deer.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

These bags are easy to fill and plant. We use a tube sprinkler in our plants and the plants never get flooded. I like the bags because I can flip the bag over and pull out the potatoes without spearing them with a spade or fork. Would like them a little taller so that more soil could be added and more potatoes would form. Bought two similar bags from another company but G.S. bags are sturdier and can be reused.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

We have had 3 of these units for the past two years with incredible production from our seed potatoes. This year we averaged 40 per planting. The harvest is as easy as buying in the store. Use store bought soil to ascertain easy planting and watering. Also put them on large plant saucer bases with wheels to make them easy to use on deck or patio. BEST VALUE and QUALITY for the price!!

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I selected grow bags for my first time growing spuds this year after reading great reviews, having good experiences with grow bags for other veggies and pics on the website showing well contained potato plants. This summer, I am growing viking purple (early) and fingerlings (late) - very early on my plants outgrew the containers and have been spilling all over my yard for months. The sides "flop" and there is no way to make them as neat as the pictures show which makes the overgrowth even more difficult to control. I haven't gotten to harvest time yet but I can't recommend this product to anyone, although they may work better for a different (smaller) crop.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I am in the process of experimenting with different self-help products. Our soil is heavy clay and lacks a number of essential minerals, so this year I tried the potatoe bags. They are close to the house, so I don't have to run all over with the garden hose, I can keep them protected from "critters", including coons and my barn cats. And altho I haven't harvested yet, I am looking forward to alot of good stuff.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I have 2 and am using both for potatoes. So far I really love them. They have done a great job in dealing with record heat and a record setting lack of rain for this area. We had over 30 days with not a drop of rain and temps between 90 to 105. If I get a harvest of potatoes it will blow my mind. The above ground floral is getting taller by the day and the bag makes it very easy to hill. Thanks for an amazing product.

Best Uses:
Outdoor Plants
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I have gotten very disappointing yields 2 years in a row with Red Pontiac potatoes. I followed the soil instructions that came with the grow bag. I got few potatoes and all were the size of pebbles. I'm not ready to give up, so I may try a lighter container mix next year and a different type of seed potato. If I get the same results next year, however, that will be strike three. The stems also grew much taller than the maximum height of the bag. Either offer a taller bag or else offer the addition of a cage extension feature that could allow more soil to be built up around the stems.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

Great idea for growing potatoes and other crops without having to use a lot of space. The potatoes grew very well and I harvested quite a large crop; all protected from insects and harm by rodents, etc. Several people who noticed the grow bags commented that they would like to buy some; I will use these again next year as they held up quite well throughout our rainy spring and the heat of summer. Highly recommended-even though they won't last forever.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I really love the potato grow bags I recently purchased. My potatoes are already up and growing and I just planted them a few weeks ago. Be sure to follow the instructions..which at first I did not. Start with just a few inches of dirt and add as the plants grow up. This is like mounding the plants if they were in the ground and will produce a larger crop.

I bought 2 of the potato bags and they are great. I used for potatoes and the other one for beets and carrots. I am short 4'10 and these bags are the perfect size for me. I can't wait to order some of the other bags for next years garden.

The bags were easy to fill and to weed. They held enough water that I only had to water 3 times a week and we have been hit with some really hot and humid weather out here in Ohio

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I put a potato grow bag together for my mother for Mother's Day and her potato plants look great. The cool thing about this bag, is that it can be put anywhere - you don't have to dig up a new spot. It rests quite nicely on bark or stones and hooked up to a drip system, it's just the perfect solution to adding to the garden without making huge changes. I've started a couple for myself using Yukon Gold, Red, and fingerling potatoes. Mine are also doing quite well. After trying the potato bags, I will definitely try some of the other grow bags, and am looking forward to harvesting. In the meantime, potato plants are actually quite attractive in the landscape.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

Well, it may be a Potato Grow Bag but I am using it as a liner in an outdoor ceramic pot for which it is extremly difficult to find a liner pot that takes advantage of the ceramic pot's width. This bag was the perfect size for the ceramic pot and the price was reasonable.

I have a tree form Knockout Rose in it as of May 2010. Rose appears to be doing just fine and drying out is not a problem. But I truly won't know until next year just how well the grow bag works.

I'm thrilled at the opportunity to grow potatoes for the 1st time with such a great invention!
I wish it would be taller. According to the online directions, one could add soil twice, but at 17" tall, and with 7" of start up soil, when the plants get 8" tall, one can only add soil one time, not two as directions suggest.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

Potatoes are just coming up so we are just starting our potato bag journey. Looking forward to an exciting, productive and confined experiment as I watch missed potatoes or pieces coming up everywhere we've ever planted them. I have one on a patio one on a pathway I'm thinking I'll raise them up on a fine grate to help keep the bottom from always being wet. Lots of gardening buddies are looking on with intrigue as well.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I have potatoes in my grow bags and they're doing really well. I've used a container soil and, as the potatoes have grown, I've added soil and rolled the bags up to a greater height. They are just about ready to start flowering so I'll be checking them daily for enough water. I really like the bag method so far!

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I bought two potato bags three years ago and added two more last year. This year I came back for three more. I have grown potatoes in hills, raised beds and even made my own bins out of wire and lined with newspaper. But I have been so pleased with the potato grow bags. They have held up well under normal seasonal use and I have been getting a nice yield of potatoes each season. I like that they stand on their own and self drain so there is no fear of over watering or potatoes rotting in the ground. When its time to harvest I just fish through the bag and harvest. I take the bag to my compost bin and dump the soil, let the bags dry, fold up and store away till next year. I definitely will use these for years to come and will try some of the other bags too. These are great for those gardeners that don't have lots of space. They fit almost any where and are not messy or unsightly.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I just harvested my first bag of potatoes, and got about 7 pounds of Yukon Golds. Started them in late winter (I was warned that in north Texas, potatoes will die in the summer heat and drought. I was also told I could start them in the fall and harvest in the spring -- I haven't tried that yet) and pulled first batch in early June. Used good quality potting mix, fed and watered regularly and voila ~ potatoes! Can't wait to try these in the fall for carrots, onions, etc.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

The Yukon Gold seed potatoes are growing quite well in the Potato Grow Bags with the All-organic Self-watering Container Mix. They drain well and are holding up to the weather. I expect that they would be good for other crops next year if the potatoes don't turn out well. They are not flimsy, but because of the way they are folded [...] it is possible for the sides to fall in until the level of the soil gets higher as the potatoes grow. Perhaps folding them inside out might help. But since you probably check your garden daily or more often, it's not a deal buster.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

We are using the potato planter for our pumpkins this year. We've had poor luck with pumpkins, so I'm trying something new! We'll see how this goes.
In our area we've had A LOT of rain the past two weeks, and so far it looks like the planter is draining well. The pumpkins seem happy; though they'd like the sun to shine!

The only thing I'd like to see added to this bag is some handles to help move it around when full of dirt.

I bought three of these for a roof-top vegetable garden. One for an heirloom tomato, one for asparagus, and one for green beans. So far, they are working just as planned! The same qualities that allow this bag to breath also allow the pots to dry out easily, so they must be watered daily.

This is now year 2 for growing potatoes in the Potato grow bag. (I use it for zucchini too!)
I cannot believe the ease of using this product!
Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Harvesting is even easier! I grew a fabulous crop of potatoes last year...I cut the plant to soil level at the appropriate time then pulled out an abundant harvest of the finest potatoes ever!
I cannot tell you how great it is not to dig for spuds any longer!! The bonus is not having to worry about soil in the garden and not being able to plant certian things where potatoes have been.
I sent these bags out as gifts to friends and family so they too, could harvest yummy potatoes without taking a lot of effort or space!
I love this product and will continue to use it year after year! Thank you Gardener's Supply...

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

This is my first vegetable garden after years of landscape gardening and we are having one of the coldest and wettest springs in decades. Despite that, the potato bags warmed up fast and within 2 weeks, I have sprouts above the soil line. Disadvantage is that slugs love to live under that warm black bag so slug contol is required. Fabric is heavy duty, seems durable and should last multiple years.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I bought 2 of these thinking I would use both for potatoes. I ended up using one for the potatoes (the yukon gold seed potatos from Gardeners Supply) and the other for carrot seeds. Its been about a month or so and both bags are growing great potato foliage and carrot tops. Initially, I thought these bags would dry out quickly but they hold the moisture well and aerate beautifully. Not a flimsy material either, so I think they could last a good couple of seasons at least. A wonderful product I would highly recommend!

This is a great idea. I have a terrible spot to grow, on the side of a hill and terrible soil. My potatoe plants are doing great so I expect a good crop. This is my first season using the potato bags & so far, it seems to be doing what I need it to. It's kinda difficult to relocate it...awkward with its fabric sides & weight of the dirt. I was able to slide it a couple of feet to a slightly better position with no problem, however. Make sure it is right where you want it to begin with, or place it on something sturdy with wheels.
Overall, I think it is just what I needed.

I'm growing potatos! I have two batches going so they all won't come in at once! I think it's a grand idea and hope it is as good as Garden Supply says it is. I am interested to see how many crops it can bring in and the wear and tear.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

This is my first year to use this product but I can say it is holding up well and the potato plants are going strong. The grow bags are not hard to use or to place soil in them but you need to have them placed where you want them for the growing season because of the difficulty in moving a soft-body container. I plan on getting more for next year. I will let you know of the production outcome.

My potatoes are growing wonderfully in this bag so I ordered some more for my onions. Easy to use & store and I can move them around. Okay, so I even went so far as to plant a few pumpkins in them too since I can get the "good dirt" in the bag with the seeds, put the bag outside in an area that the pumpkin can spread out. We'll see how that works this year. Great bags!

One month after purchase the plants are green and growing. I keep adding soil as instructed. I had planned to try growing potatoes in a large garbage can. This is easier. I don't have to cut off the bottom of those trashcans.

The grow bag is filmsy but it will work if you put a giant plastic saucer underneath and leave it in one spot. So find the sunniest spot in your garden before you fill it. I'll know for sure if this works when I harvest my potatoes in September.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

When potatoes are initially placed in the bag, before extra soil has been added to cover up the emrging shoots, the bag is at risk of blowing away in the wind. I stock a brick in the bottom and removed it after the soild (and the weight of the soil) was added. If you don't do this and your area gets 20 mile per hour wind gusts, the bag will succomb and move...even blow away.

I used the potato bag to plant my white potatoes this year. I should have bought two, since the package of seed potatoes had 10, and this holds three to five potatoes. The potatoes have all started growing, and I am pleased thus far with how the bag is holding up. I put it near my garden, in a mulched area, so it is easy to water and maintain. I think that I will have a good crop this year, without grubs. I will probably order at least one more - these are really cool!

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

Starting a new garden at my new home seemed a daunting proposition. My back has been giving me trouble and these potato grow bags seemed to be just what I needed. They are easy to use and appear to be sturdy and well-made. The potato starts I put in are poking through the soil and look good. I was afraid they had rotted as we had a huge amount of rain and farmers had to replant some fields. The grow bags seem to drain as well as stated. If they continue to do well, I will buy more next year and also try the tomato grow bags.

I'd new heard of such a thing and had to try it. I bought four and have them planted with seed potatoes. The plants are not up yet so may have to let you know how the plants liked the bag and if the yield was good. I love the ease of adding soil and away they go. I live in AL and didn't want to have to water the bags myslef s I placed them in empty spots in my existing flower beds, near the automatic sprinklers!

Simple set up. Out of the box & onto the ground, add a couple inches of potting soil, pop in the seed potatoes add a couple more inches of dirt. Water well and stand back. Folding the top down like a cuff keeps the sides from collapsing. We also clipped bird netting to the top of the bags to keep out the birds and our family of cats.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

The potato grow bag holds a good deal of growing medium and I hope it will prove to be a great tool to grow not only potatoes but also other root crops here in Alabama. We have terrible pests (grubs, etc) that absolutely decimated my root crops last year. Am hoping for the best!! Am ordering a couple more bags to use for carrots and beets.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I have not had these bags long enough to know whether or not they will hold up during summer months. I hope they do because I would like to re-use them. I now have both potato and tomato bags but will use them for other vegetables if successful. Filling the bags with soil and mulch is simple and they are resilient in heavy rains, I found out. I have grown potatoes in containers in the past with great success, so am anticipating the same with these bags. The flexibility and porous material is great for vegetables.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I've read the reviews on these before purchasing them last year. My results were great BUT as I've said the DRY OUT FAST! I place them about 1/4-1/2 into mulch, even added more mulch around them.
The only thing that I find funny is some people say they are hard to move. What do you except when you're moving over 80 pounds of soil Don't move them.
My yield was better than expected, about 7 pounds each.
Follow the instructions carefully, worth it. Planning to buy more each season, for more than potatoes.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I am using this product for potatoes. I didnt want to plant them in my raised beds due to the fact that they take up too much room. I was able to just set this up in a nice sunny location around the veg. beds. It is somewhat difficult to move AFTER the soil is in it. Sides did collapse somewhat, however I used an inverted tomato cage and that fixed that problem.
I am buying several more for watermelons and pumpkins!!

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I was very encouraged by the many positive reviews about these potato bags, and because I have "soil issue" I thought this would be the perfect solution! The plants did not thrive. The harvest was non-existent for the fingerling white potatoes and minimal for the Beauregard sweet potatoes. I had a very rainy growing season, and perhaps these grow bags are not acclimated to the "Global Weirding" weather we are experiencing. I think good soil in the earth is the solution to excessive rain. This probably is a great product if you do not have any rain! We can no longer assume that!

These grow great potatoes and really make it easy to harvest. It took a year for me to learn to turn the top down to keep it standing up but that was the only issue. I ordered more for this year to add more potatoes to my garden. I dig down about 5 inches and recess the fabric pot into the ground and add dirt as needed to build up inside the pot. At the end of the season I just turn the pot over to harvest!

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

Works best when buried 1/4 of the way into the ground. Production increases when soil is added periodically over the growing season. One large Potato grow bag is capable of producing up to 15 pounds of Yukon Gold, Kennebec, or Russet Burbank types of potatoes. At harvest time, this product eliminates or limits loss due to fork, spade to hoe damage. Because these tools are not needed. Just dump the contents into a wheelbarrow or contained space on the ground and root out tubers with your gloved hands for perfect potatoes. Last season we experimented with only a few bags to see how well they worked in our ever expanding family garden and averaged 14 pounds of good sized tubers per bag. This year we have added another additional 15 bags. Last years bags were emptied, cleaned and dried at the end of last season (showed no real ware) and will be used again this year as if they were new. Put them where you want them to stay because they will get heavy and hard to move. Potatoes well grow better if left alone and not moved around. Will be adding Red Pontiac and Russian Banana types of potatoes this year.

I used several of these in an area of the garden that was not being used for anything else. I set them on boards to lift them off of the ground and to keep them draining. The potatoes grew fine and will plant again next spring

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

We used this for the first time last summer and had a large crop of potatoes even though the weather was extremely wet. It drained very well and we had no problems with rot or mildew. We did half of the crop in a standard plastic pot and got less than half as many potatoes.

I gave two of these potato bags to a friend as a Christmas gift. She definitely plans to use them, however, says her yard does not get enough sun for vegetables. I never thought about sun requirements when ordering the gift.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I have tried to grow potatoes and have made the hills to grow them in. I have added amendents to the soil to help them along. Your potato bins not only allow me to grow successfull potatoes but carrotts as well. Koodos to the inventor. Now I can move the bins around to the best areas in the yard to be successful in the Texas heat.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I purchased these to free up space in my garden, which they do. But I was very disappointed in the potato crop. I mixed the soil I used in the pots & watered regularly. I noticed half way through the summer, salts from the water were collecting around the bottom of the pot. After the tops died back, I turned the pots over and discovered the bottom 1/2 of the soil to be rock solid and the potatoes tiny. I suspect the water played a large part in the crop failure. I think if you live in an area that receives reliable rainfall(I don't) you will be more successful than I was. I would not recommend this product to anyone living in dry areas.

I used these with potting soil because my soil is hard and contaminated with salt spray. (The price of waterfront living.) Got over 8 lb of sweet potatoes/pot. Best ever -- sweet, tender, not pithy or stringy.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

I can now grow potatoes without the rotting issues. This 'bin' drains well as well as creating the mounding conditions needed for potatoes. They are reusable for the next season, and store easily. The 'bins' are a little difficult to fill with soil, but doable.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

These bins are a true wonder. They fold up small for storage, hold a lot of soil, drain like a pro and when the plants are done, rinse them off and store them for next year. I can't wait to bring them out again next year. These bins are not just for potatoes they can be used for tomatoes and even flowers. They might not be the most attractive idea but they work like a champ.

Cons:
Low yield

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

This was easy to plant and also very easy to harvest. Just dump the soil out of the bin and sort your potatoes. I had low yields even though I watered well, continued to add soil and had them growing in full sun. I planted fingerlings but got nowhere near 13 pounds of potatoes harvested from these planters. Those I did harvest were of great quality though. I'll try again next year and use a different type of fertilizer to see if I can increase my harvest. The jury is still out on this one for me.

Comments about Potato Grow Bag:

We tried growing potatoes for the first time in these bags. It was the best investment due to the very rainy and cool summer we had. I did not have any bad potatoes in six bags. They are constructed well and will live to see another season, at least! I look forward to growing them again next year and may even stick them right next to the house. I highly recommend these bags!
