I have used many of Gardener's self-watering containers with success on my deck veggie garden. I haven't used this exact one yet, but I bought it for the depth and hope to do carrots and radishes, or other veggies that need root depth.

I have three of these from you and have not found the plastic inserts to add water that helpful so with two of them I simply removed them and the water absorber on the bottom and used just the planter. With this new purchase, I decided to try the assembly again. However, the ball in the insert does not rise to indicate water level and the top to the insert does not close (manufacturing defect) so I simply add water until it runs out the bottom of the planter. I still like the idea of keeping plants watered without a drip system. I do love the actual look of these planters, which is why I keep purchasing them. very durable in any weather in my East Bay Area California location.

These self watering containers are the best containers ever. I discovered them two years ago, and was a skeptic until I purchased two for the full sun area of my front porch. Now I am a believer! The plants grow and grow, and truly, they don't need watering for a week at a time. And if it rains? No fears of over watering either, since the reservoir below is huge. Thanks for the great product!

I am putting vegetables on my patio next year and bought these because of the large size, deep reservoir, and sturdy constuction. I just bought them in July and have planted some fall lettuce because I just HAD to use them this year. Can't wait to use them on tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, etc.
