Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
It was easy to assemble, it took no time at all and my plant is staying perfectly watered all the time.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The self-watering insert allows me to have beautiful plants even when I'm away for several days.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I've even left off the reservoir, blocked any existing bottom drainage holes, & drilled holes in the sides of containers just below the soil support so I can't drown the plants. This results in a larger reservoir, but couldn't be done easily with ceramic pots. Now if you'd just develop a larger version for barrels & something similar for square pots, I'd be delighted!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought these to help my plants survive the 100 plus degree heat of southern New Mexico. I was having to refill the things every other day, and still had to water daily. Every time I open the port I get a whiff of stagnant smelly water. I feel I wasted my time and money.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
My outdoor containers were not doing well this summer using regular potting soils, so, purchased these conversion kits along with the self watering container mix to convert all my outdoor containers. I do not have to water so often in the hear, and, the plants do not go through the dry out or drown out cycles as they did before. These work quite well to maintain fairly consistent soil moistness.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Converted large garden containers to self watering containers so no need to water as often in the heat, plus, keeping a steady dampness rather than dry out and drown out cycles. Mine arrived in excellent condition. They are thin plastic, but, anything heavier would not be maleable to fit into containers of different sizes withing the sizing range.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I used one of these systems in a plastic pot on my front porch this year. I am amazed at how little water I have to add to this. The plants have grown really well and require very little care.
I had no problem with assembly; however, the ones I purchased were too large for my flower pots except the one pictured. I've since purchased smaller ones for next season.

I am away on visits to my grandchildren often and my husband, although he tries, just doesn't always remember to water my plants. I have planted my Japanese Maples in two large pots on my porch and used the self-watering conversion kits. They allow me to go away for a week or more with the satisfaction of knowing my plants will survive!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
It's not often you find a product that works as they say. This item works. I live in Arizona and there is just one season here and that is summer all year around. Right now it's the hottest time of the year and I have the plants out in the sun till about 1pm and it's going good. I couldn't of asked for more. Wait, yes I can ask for more ... I'll be ordering more of this item for sure.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
For years I would assemble beautiful potted flower arrangements for outside. Then, we would travel in July for a week and I would come home to badly wilted plants which struggled the rest of the summer. This year..NO MORE! What a difference this product made. I have a pot that sits in full sun all day and I only have to refill the self-watering insert every 5 days. It is in full bloom and does not look the least bit stressed. Pots in partial shade can go even longer. What a welcome addition to my garden. I will be buying more and enjoying them for years to come.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Self water reservoir is very useful to maintain water in large pots that either tend to go dry quickly or where you don't want to cause root rot.
My only criticism is that the dip stick showing water level in reservoir tends to fall to one side or the other of the water tube and get stuck, preventing accurate readings. It needs a very simple plastic centering insert at the top of the tube to prevent this.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I planted some small vegetable plants in pots on my patio, and because I might be gone for several days during the growing season, I needed to have my son water them. The self-watering conversion kit makes it possible for me to be gone, and watering to be only maybe once a week after the plants are established. My son liked the idea so much, I had to order him some for his pots! I now know to order the larger kits for the bigger pots. There is a tenancy to "over-water" if the straw sticks, but we soon learned to make sure the straw is "free". The ease of use, the quick assembly, and the worry-free function is well worth the minimal cost for this item!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I've had the pots but always wanted to use these in my other pots and finally bit the bullet, they are great.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased these for my daughter who is starting to show an interest in growing indoor plants. She has a very hectic lifestyle along with very long days since she is in grad school. She is able to enjoy having plants in her apartment because these help her make it easy to care for them. As a mom who always loved having indoor plants and watching things grow, it's a thrill for me to see my daughter enjoy the same experience.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought these for the first time last year and they were awesome. I bought more this year because I'm trying to convert all my outside planters. On those really hot summer days, you can go without watering for a few days. If we have a "normal" Western New York summer (not as hot and humid), I can water once a week.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
One reviewer said that the small systems didn't work because there was no "wicking" system. That was helpful to know. I used 100% cotton twine, and braided it creating wicks,
I made sure that the know on on end had enough tail to reach the bottom of the bowl. The wick was slipped in between the flexible wings (the knot kept the wick from pulling out)and the tail was at the bottom of the bowl.
I used two for each pot. As I filled with soil, I kept the cotton wicks up through the soil.
They work great! I wish I had through of this when I did the big pots. I wish the company had thought of this. Makes a big difference.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This is a re-order for the self-watering conversoin kits. We live in Central Florida and the Summers are brutal. If we go on a short vacation and it doesn't rain, we are covered. Extremely simple; extremely effective.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
They are light weight and if used correctly they should work, I am not sure I do it right or not.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I think you should try to develop a square self watering kit.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love the convenience of watering less while my plants are damp and not overwatered. I also like it with the water retention soil I brought to go with it. I have so many plants I couldn't keep them healthy until I started using this system.
I had trouble installing the stem cover and stick indicator. The cover doesn't fit and the stem is too long. Unsure of how short to make it. No instructions for these items. Yet I have learned to do without them and touch the soil to determine dryness.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Great solution - having a lot of very hot weather (90s) for day so even when I can water this helps maintain each plant - will probably order more for next year
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
They don't work. Period. I don't know where the water goes but it never gets to the soil or plants. They are always dry and wilted unless I water every 2-3 days. I hoped I could go 5 days at least, without watering. Yes, I used the soil that was recommended which is expensive. And in the winter, it's a huge pain because I'm afraid they will freeze and crack my pots. I end up laying the pots on their sides. Someday, I will go through the nightmare of removing them all and throw them away.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Used this product for my container garden...it makes it easier to keep the plants watered in this heat.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have a baby fig tree and am using this to keep it watered and growing.
It works well, however it takes up A LOT of room in the bottom of your pot so even though it's recommended for a pot 10-14" in diameter they don't tell you that it's needs to be tall too.
The other semi-negative is that the tube extends but the slightest pressure collapses it and unlike the self-watering boxes, the indicator is not readily visible and gets caught on the inside of the tube so it can't always rise to show you the actual amount of water in the container.
Overall, though, it does work and it's keeping the plant watered and happy.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
One gallon self water container in 16" diameter outdoor pot, helps supports large growth plants from die back from heat of the day wilting.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Once the plants reach maturity it is impossible to find the watering tube. I water as with any other pot.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Used both sizes with transplanted nursery stock. Used the "cowpots" for growing seeds and then transplanted into the pots with conversion kits. I live in area "8" in North Texas. These pots maybe keeping soil (packaged potting soil) moist but not in the upper 2/3s part of pot. Watering required as if conversion kit not there. The water level indicator has not dropped at all. I don't think the design allows for wicking water up into soil.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This is a great idea for keeping a large pot watered that doesn't have it's own reservoir. I used it in a very large pot and while it could have held more water for my container it is definately better than the nothing I had. This way you can be gone for a day or so and not have to worry about having someone water your plant.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I like this self watering pot converter, because up until now I'd been spending LOTS of money on the LeChuza self watering pots. While LeChuza is slick & has a nice red stick to pretty accurately display the water level, this converter does the trick. The bobbing water level stick doesn't seem to move. I've never seen it go down, but I know my plants need water. So I put more in & the stick still doesn't move. It's ok. What this converter does, is allow me to use my own nice pots that I've invested $$ in, and not have to go out & water them every day! That's priceless. Just note, the sizing is a little tough. I bought 6 thinking they'd fit my larger pots as well, and it turns out they did not. Not a lot of guidance there on how to fix that problem, sorry, but just be willing to return, or sell them to a friend, like I did. I use 2, and love them!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I'm a first time user and like them so far. They certainly have saved my plants in the hot summer sun. I would read other reviews to see how they have held up over time for the issues of mold, mildew and decay.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
For several years, I have used both sizes for outdoor containers. The larger ones have been used in half whiskey barrels. Here in hot East Texas, I used to have to water these containers several times a day. But with the self-watering kit, I only have to water once every few days. I love these!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
These things are great! I love the idea of not stewing about watering the pots every day. Nice!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have only used this product for outdoor plants. Works great but needed to dump some water after heavy rains for plants that do not like to be wet all the time. Would easily recommend it to any gardener. Easy to set up and monitor water levels. I would like to try it for indoor plants.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I planted two daisy plants in a wooden barrel with the 1 gallon self-watering system. The plants love it, and I know how often to water them by the amount they use. My son saw them, and insisted I order extras for him on my next order.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have converted all my pots to self-watering and they keep my plants watered for a week or so - perfect solution for my weekend cottage.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Have had these conversion kits in large pots on the front porch for 2 yrs - didn't work well UNTIL I placed two terry cloth strips through the grate, into the water reservoir and up into the soil. Now the water is drawn up to the roots and I don't have to water but once a week. Without the help of the cloth "wicks" I think it was difficult for the roots to reach down far enough for them to draw water. Love the product!! By the way - the window boxes did not have this problem - they worked perfectly from the start!!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I forget to water in areas not covered by the sprinklers. These work great!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
some of the tube lids do not close
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have a number of great-looking pots that I can now convert to reservoir planting. I am sure I will save far more than the cost of the conversion in a)keeping my outdoor plants alive
b)not having to hire someone to
water when I take short trips.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I live on a windy, fairly sunny lot. My potted, outdoor herbs were frequently stressed by running out of water.
I have made DIY self-waterers. This product makes the job much easier, at a good price and can be used in already existing pots rather than buying an entire new potting system.
The water capacity could be slightly greater but I haven't had it set up long enough to know if this will be a problem when I am away from home for a week or so.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Great for converting large pots you already have. Really helps in the heat of summer.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I had hoped to use the conversion kit on an established planter in intense sunlight on my deck. No way!! The watering tube is not at the edge so this product can only be used if you are planting from scratch.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I decided to order more of these after ordering and reading Ed Smith's book Incredible Vegetables from Self-Watering Containers. These offer the flexibility to convert a variety of containers into self-watering containers. I have even used these to turn new (and clean) 5-gallon paint buckets into self-watering planters. Unfortunately, the tube that acts as a water level indicator doesn't always perform reliably. We have had a fairly wet summer so far, so I don't know if the reservoir isn't needing to be refilled often. Adding what seems to be only a little water causes water to drain out the drain holes. Have you also thought about offering a kit with a 2-gallon reservoir for larger containers instead of a maximum of 1 gallon?
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love pots but hate to water. Pots need so much watering but with these, much less watering, much more enjoying!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love that I can buy what ever flower pot I want and make it a self watering pot!! Very easy to install!!!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
It accomplishes the purpose I bought it for.
I no longer have to water my flowers everyday and they are thriving. My pots are in between the small and large size. I bought the quart size and with an adaption of my own it works well. ( I placed some styrofoam packing peanuts around it on the bottom.)
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I now own 6 large and 2 small systems. They do help keep container plants watered especially when I am gone for days at a time. They are also easy to clean up and store in the fall.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have an acre of property and cutting down the number of times I need to carry water to some flowers is very much appreciated. I have a couple of pots up a hill by our pond, and five large pots on our patio with these self watering converstion kits. I love them!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Can be gone for a few days without watering plants
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Fits perfectly and hides well among flowers
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
It's my first year trying to grow tomatoes in containers and i wanted to give them the best chance. So I purchased 2 large conversion kits for two giant containers that I already had. I placed the pots in a very sunny location. To my surprise, I spotted little tomatoes growing after only three weeks. The conversion kits fit my large pots perfectly and they hold lots of water. So far so good. I'll know more as the season progresses and the weather gets real hot on long Island. If they work I'll be thrilled.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I hope to have better blooms and have an easier time knowing when they need water - the indicator is easy to view. A quick view as I pass my pots on the front porch and I know if I need to water or not. I'm also glad I can use the pots I have used for years.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Used gal. size in 2 pots. One pot was about 16" - it works very well and the plants are doing great in it. The water last a long time in the reservoir. I think I add water once a week, and it isn't even dried out (but they do get rain water too). The other pot, at least twice the size (maybe 24") is not doing as well. The water is not moving up to the roots of the plant. Maybe eventually the roots will move farther down.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I already had a self-watering planter which saved a plant that needed more water than the every couple of weeks I would get around to watering. I bought some of the small conversion kits to use in pots I already had. They work well in a couple of my pots but even the small is too big for some of them. Once the kit goes in there's not enough room left for soil and roots. They really work well but I'd like to see something that would work in smaller or more shallow pots.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought these for our large potted plants on our deck. We get almost sun all day so frequent watering is essential. These have been a big help and so far I haven't had to do anything other than give the pots a check every couple of days
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I made the mistake of taking my measurements for these kits from the top of my tapered pots, so I ended up with two kits that are too small.--Kits need to fit snugly in bottom of container. Directions could be better; Plastic material they are made out of is too thin[...] Would have returned for larger size but had thrown out packaging and need to plant my flowers NOW so an out of luck. Very disappointed with them in general.....
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I am using the large self-watering kit in a 20" diameter pot planted with 3 shade-loving perennials (pulmonaria and a fern-like plant whose name I have forgotten). It is fabulous!. I add a little water every 3 days or so and the plants are growing and blooming very well with no wilt. It has been very hot and humid lately with very little rain, but these plants seem completely unaffected. I was also gone for 5 days on vacation and the plants did not seem to miss me at all. I found it very easy to fill from a spouted container. A very worth-while purchase.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Reservoir takes up too much room in container.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This Product is garbage. Once you fill, you're stuck. Just pray it doesn't continue to rain. There is no way to drain. I purchased three and wish I could sent them all back. They ruined my plants
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased two of these for outdoor pots I am using to grow herbs. From the sizing instructions, I purchased the smaller one, which was on the end of the size range - or the beginning of the large size range. Much too shallow, and the tube too short. Had to build up a "fake" bottom, and now very flimsy. I have purchased the self-watering containers and loved them! Haven't used the second one I purchased.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Since I love the self-watering window boxes I have moved to the next level. I purchased 8 of these. Two of the smaller size and 6 of the larger ones. I have not yet had to water my plants which I planted more than 3 weeks ago after setting them up and giving them a good intial watering. I haven't even had time to check the well and all is looking good. I'm expecting them to perform as well as the window boxes. I prefer the large ones and usually plant in 12 inch caribbean style pots. The large one also worked nice in a 16" pot. The small ones are too small for my needs, but I'm sure that I will still end up using them. I have lots more to plant!!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
No instructions on use, had to go online to get properly assembly
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I like being able to make any pot self watering. The only problem I have is keeping the lid shut on the tube used to fill the pots.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased these to convert several expensive pots in lieu of purchasing new ones. They work well, I only have to water my plants a few times a week. However, the filling tube in this size is too short. I had to really lower the soil level in my pots. The tube tends to slide up and down too, making it difficult to get your pots set. After planting 2 pots, I got wise and put soil in the bottom of the pot to raise the height of the reservoir. Those pots are fine. The filling tube cap sometimes does not want to stay closed too, which can be problematic. I imagine when I go to clean my pots at the end of the season, there will be all kinds of "stuff" in the reservoir. Other than the height of the filling tube - they work well and were cheaper than replacing all my pots. I also purchased the larger size for some of my larger pots and did not have problems with the height of the filling tube. The float indicator tends to get caught on the tube/reservoir connection and is not always a reliable indicator of how much water is in the reservoir. But, as long as your pots have drainage holes - it is not a problem. They have saved me a lot of time watering and my plants look great so far! Despite the challenges, I am glad I purchased them - at least I did not have to replace all my pots and it has saved me time watering!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have used self watering containers before and I find these to be totally useless!!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have several window boxes.... the water reservoir is just the best so you don't have to water as often....I also fertilize with liquid fertilizer this way....if you have not tried these....you are really missing out....I have purchased similar ones for 5 times the cost...these work just as well.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
DOES JUST WHAT IT SAID IT WOULD & EASY TO USE.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Have in use 3 or 4 Kits. in EACH case the attached lid on the filling tube will not stay closed. Thus potting mix falls into tube. Obviously this is not good. Have taped closed to prevent problem,. Any suggetions ?

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
We have a lake home that we travel to primarily on weekends only--and I love to have flower pots with beautiful (and these days, expensive) flowers. But, because I am not there to water the pots for about 5 days at a time, these self watering devices will hopefully keep my plants looking good all summer; and not have them suffer the stress of becoming parched and water depleted between weekend trips to the lake. Worth the investment when one thinks about the cost of planting--and wanting the plants to last and look good all summer.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Too early to tell how well these will work. Self- watering pots seem like the way to go and these conversion kits make any pot a self-watering one. Thanks

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Great for outdoor pots. Only drawback is the cotton-bottomed stick in the port.. once it goes below the tube .. it sticks and you have to pull it up manually for it to work.. Otherwise it's a good product.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Extension a MERE 1", terrible.
Existing transplants made impossible due to watering tube being in way of rootball. Unless you severly hack your roots to make way for tube extension, its impossible to use effectively and efficiently for existing rootballs! This product has many dissadvantages versus advantages.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Rating this as average as I've not yet had a chance to see how plants perform. No instructions were included, and I had to email to find out how short to cut water indicator "stick". The principle of the device seems sound, but at first glance it seems somewhat overpriced and not sturdy. I wonder how it will fare in subsequent years (I have to empty my containers each year to avoid freezing and cracking). However, if plants respond, that is all that matters.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
three prongs which go down have three purpose
1) support
2) for roots to grow
3) to draw water from below: this it cannot do until and unless soil mix is in touch with water. And roots are grown long enough to pass through holes for the roots. That is only possible if there are holes in the prongs.
Smaller kit even have no prongs.
I will recommend only if defect is corrected.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love the specially designed self-watering containers that you sell so i was very excited to be able to retrofit my own. I was immediately disappointed when i installed it. I ordered the small system, and there is no wicking system to get the water up into the soil! Perhaps relying on only evaporation might work when the plant matures and the roots grow deep into the water reservoir, but i'll have to wait till the end of the growing season for that.
The fill tube is also too short—if i had positioned it low into the (small!) reservoir to keep the reservoir from slipping around in the bottom of the pot, i would've had about 4-5 inches of space at the top of the pot!! I ended up pulling the fill tube up very high when i installed it and as a result the water must be falling outside of the reservoir, because it immediately drains from the pot when i fill it.
Don't even get me started on the positioning of the fill tube itself. It's practically in the center of the pot. That's kindof where i wanted the plant to be.
BAD design.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This works best for planting small plants around it, not for 1 large container plant. I was able to cut away a section of the large rootball to accommodate the tube.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Just planted with this gizmo, so too soon to tell if it will work as intended. There were no instructions for it. Came with a long white tube - not at all clear how to use it. I did not use a filter cloth in the bottom because there were no instructions and it looked like the roots/soil would need to contact the liner for it to deliver the water to plant roots.
Fill tube is so close to center of pot, interferes with plants/planting.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Central Texas weather dries soil in pots quickly; this product gives me a break from watering outdoor plants everyday.
The basin of the larger size could be taller to contain more water.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have one in all tomatoes and peppers that are not in the self watering outdoor planters(which by the way, in a head to head battle, are doing MUCH better by 50% than the earthbox) outdoor planters.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love these things. I live in Baltimore city and the summers can be brutal. 75% of my gardening is done in containers and usually by early July 50% is dead and by the end of July everything is dead b/c I can't keep up w/ the twice a day waterings. These helped my plants make it all the way through the summer.
I came back this year to buy several more for the pots that I had not converted.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Comnverted some old standard pots into self watering. I travel and occassionally forget to water my potted plants. This helps a great deal.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Used the gallon size in a pair of large pottery pots I already owned. These were on the deck of a cottage I can only get to on the weekends, and they were full and healthy all summer long. Everyone who visited commented on how beautiful the combinations were, but I knew that the real hero was this watering system. They ended looking like the pots in catalogue pictures!
Well worth the money, and I'm ordering more this year.
Now, I just want some inserts like this for rectangular trough type containers, or a reservoir container for porch railings. My self watering window boxes from you were also incredible looking.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
After assembling, adding the plants and soil, when re-filling the reservoir the pipe extension does not stay in place (it get's shorter) and the cap does not stay fastened. The pipe extension needs to be re-designed to stay in place. When plants are small, I'm not sure that the roots will reach the water reservoir so it still need to be top watered. Time will tell as to the efficiency of the self-watering concept.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I'm hoping it will solve the problem of potted plants drying out so quickly. Using it for large house plants and outdoor spring/summer plants.
Looks very well made.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I used these last year in my outdoor pots--saved a lot of underwatering and overwatering. Ordered this year for our daughter-in-law.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
While the 1-gallon version has 3 'legs' that always allow the soil contact with the water reservoir, the 1-quart version has nothing. The description states that the soil will stay moist via evaporation, yeah right. I think that they should have at least included a fabric wick that is used in many of the other self-water planters they sell.
My advice - buy the 1-gallon model but skip the 1-quart version.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This product really lightened the weight of the pot hence the shorter dirt hieght. My plants are doing well with it.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have only just assembled and placed into pot however the tube is too short (bought quart size); I had to add a block of wood at the bottom of the pot so the tube would reach above the dirt-line. Cannot yet comment on effectiveness until later in summer.

This product is just what the doctor ordered! With the regular rainfall this spring, I have yet to need to water the plants (excluding the initial fill-up of course) since the planter was set up! You just need to handle the product with kid gloves until it's in place. My planters are 18" wide and 22" deep and the filler neck is perfectly adjustable to reach deeper if needed. Well worth the money!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I read many of the reviews about the product's watering tube not being long enough, but brushed them aside hoping for the best. The watering tubes though are not NEARLY long enough. My planter is not one of those gigantic deep planters... and it falls about 6" short. Also, the measurement is NOT from the opening of the planter, but the bottom of the planter (for example, my planter tapers down at the bottom to only accommodate the smaller conversion kit, but that size is not practical for the large hibiscus I planted above it). I ordered six of them. I am keeping one that I beat to death and returning the others.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I only had the picture in the catalog to guide me on proper assembly. The kits do not work as the soil is only in contact with the water when the reservoir in full. Once the water goes down at all there is nothing to draw the water into the soil. The pots dry out even if the reservoir is 3/4 full. I plan to remove the system from the pots and simply at Soil Moist to the soil instead. If I am doing something wrong, then let me know.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I was gone for 6 days and this product kept my recently purchased plants alive. I am ordering 6 more.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
With Southern heat, container gardening can be quit a chore. These are great! I'll be ordering more of these, for sure.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
prevents my plants from drying out in the Texas sun and heat.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Haven't used them through a summer season yet, but all seems good - sturdy, even tho I didn't have directions included, I found them online and they were very easy to put together. I bought the smaller ones (1 qt.)and have since bought the larger ones( 1 gallon). The diameter measurement is not an ideal method to decide which size is needed for pots. I was glad I only bought a few small ones until I could see which would work. May write again after the summer.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Have long used both sizes of these, but was delighted that my most recent re-order of the small size is now designed like the larger size.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Lightweight, adaptable design and converts any size planter.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Less expensive than gravel and lighterweight.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased a similar product for nearly three times the cost. This product has a similar water basin, floating mechanism, and tubing as the one I bought from another company. The flexible wings on this one actually conform to different size pots, the English Mona Watering system does not. If this product saves or at a minimum extends the life of your plants, then buying these things actually saves you money in the long run.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have just started using these on outdoor potted plants so I am not sure if the water evaporation method will be able to supply enough water.
The only real con is that the water spout is not quite long enough. It should be about 2"-3" longer as it does not reach the top on deeper pots.
It could be trimmed, if necssary, to a shorter length.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
very easy to assemble. Fits well into square pots. Easy to fill when the potting soil is added to the pot.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
1) FILL PORT/TUBE TOO SHORT.When I put the insert into a pot, even the original one it came with, the black watering tube was WAY too short to stick up above the dirt. The only way I could use it was to pull it as high as I would without disconnecting from the base, and then pack the dirt and Plant in to hold it in place. I'm off to [...] to find some PVC pipe of same diameter so I can make a taller fill port. 2)FILL/TUBE PORT NEEDS TO BE ON THE SIDE It would also be more helpful to have the fill tube/port located more to the edge. Every plant I transplanted using the 1-Q or 1-GAL inserts I had to carve out a place in the side of the plant-ball so it would fit around the fill tube. The fill tube then ended up being almost in the middle of the plant and harder to access to fill.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Nothing like having the added security of knowing that your plants are geeting the water they need while you're away for a week or two. Went to Florida for eight days recently, only to discover upon my return that my plants were strong and healthy. They were somewhat weak when I left because I travel alot and they sometimes get neglected - "AWSOME" fix for times away - Thanks GSC for an awsome product.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
My plants are doing great now! I got these gallon conversion kits to minimize the daily watering of plants in my larger 6 gallon planters. For the first few weeks, I had to continue to water almost every day still because in our hot summer in southern CA (ZONE 10), the top of the soil felt dry. While I am sure that the longest roots that were touching the top were getting the water in the reservoir, the shorter roots were not and thus, dry leaves fell from not enough water. Over the cooler months and as the roots develop, I hope I will only have to water/fill reservoir once a week. Maybe if I had gotten the soil Gardeners recommends and sells, my plants would have done better from the getgo.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
turns any pot into a selfwatering one.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have been slowly converting all of my pots with these self watering kits. Living in San Diego sometimes we need to water a couple times a day during hot dry weather. These mitigate that problem and generally allow us to take a weekend vacation without all the plants dying.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This product is such a time saver and I just check the water level when I think of it. Before, I did sporadic watering to the containers and they went from drowned to thirsty.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Most of my plants are in the ground, but with these self watering kits I can also have pots all over the yard without having to water them daily.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The biggest challenge is finding a container to fit the self watering kit. Must take into consideration not only the fit for the bottom tray/bowl, but also the height of the fill tube. Flexible colander-style screen adjusts nicely to container shape. Used the small kit for outdoor container. Watered weekly rather than daily, and it seemed to prevent plants from drying out. Also bought as a gift, and would recommend to others. Though self watering containers might be the easier choice, if you don't want to shop around for your own containers.

Make sure the plant stays healthy before relying on the reservoir to give it water.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have large beautiful ceramic pots that tend to dry out quickly in the heat. With work and a busy family I don't always have time to water on a daily basis. These inserts alow me to skip a day or two in between watering. My neighbors always compliment me on my great looking flower pots!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I live in Phoenix, AZ where summer temprature can kill a human waiting on a bus! I put this products in four of my planters outside which are not watered by automatic drip system.
I planted annuals in two pots and Hibiscus in two others. Once the roots grow and hit the reservoir, then I would say this product should work fine for me but till then, I will still need to water my platns twice a day in the summer since the roots are not reaching the reservoir and the dirt on top of this system will still dry out so quickly in this heat. I will see how it's woking in a month or two!!!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I live in a high heat area and this allowed me to water less often. The only drawback is when you close the cap covering the white plastic water-level float, the black tube slides down into the dirt. I have to hold the black tube with one hand while I snap the cap closed with the other. Otherwise, it works great.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This makes keeping plants both indoors and outdoors evenly watered.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I modified my outside hanging baskets by replacing the drip irrigation I installed last year with these self-watering conversion kits. I live in TX and it has already been b/w 100 & 105 degrees. The soil has NOT dried out in this heat & full sun exposure and I have only had to refill the 4 qt (1 gallon) containers every 4-5 days. That often may sound terrible to others in cooler areas, but having hanging planters on drip irrigation in a non-dedicated zone (read: on lawn zone) is a no-win situation; either the plants or lawn will pay the price (probably both). Plus I simply throw my water soluble fertilizer in w/ the water.
It's been cooler for the past 2 weeks (high 80's, low 90's). Only have to refill every 10-14 days.
Highly recommend.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I like improving my favorite pots. Transfer plants seem to wake up and take notice. I've reordered this item and will need more, and have shared with friends and family.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I've failed at more container gardens than I'd care to ever admit to, but now I've got some gorgeous ones on my back porch thanks to these self watering kits. I bought the original ones to go with the containers from gardeners supply, but have since bought four more to convert my existing containers. These are great, I still water my plants, but they thrive despite brutal southern NC heat, full sun, and missing a day or even two!! I love these and recommend whole heartedly!!!!!!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I converted several of my plant containers to hold the self-watering conversion kits, and absolutely will be buying more for the rest of my containers. Easy to assemble, it converts most pots so you don't have to worry about your plants drying out. It even has a water level indicator to let you know when it needs to be refilled. Outstanding product for those of us who own many different plant containers.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Works perfectly for a Dahoon Holly started from seed in Zone 10.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
A great way to help keep up with the watering of those outside plants.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The large one worked great. I love that the plant never dries out. It grew very well. I'll be buying more. The small one did not fit into any of my pots. The pots were either too tall or too short.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This is great and really line the option to adjust the lenght of the "dip stick".
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I always get busy and forget to check on my plants need for water. It usually does not end in disaster, but in the winter months it can. With this reservoir, I don't have to worry so much. I just put the water in, the plants get the water they need, and I can forget about them for a few days. I especially like it for the winter when my plants are in the cellar and I don't get to visit with them as often.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I had 2 old self-watering Terrazza planters. the watering tubes had broken on both through out the years, and the color had faded. This year I painted them with the new spray paint for plastic, and purchased new selfwatering conversion kits. They look brand new again, and the plants in them are well watered and look wonderful.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Years ago I had purchased some indoor containers that worked on the same principle. I never saw them again, and missed the convenience of once a-week watering, for later plants.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love this product! I can leave for our summer place and not worry about my potted plants. Used two last year and now ordered two more this year. They last and are easy to clean up at the end of the season. My only problem has been the cap at the top of the watering tube, it does not always snap in place and then comes off.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have a lake house that I use on the weekends. Leave plants on the deck in 100 degree temperature during the week and when I arrive on the weekend they are still damp. Highly recommend!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
One of your best products. I have recommended this to many other Master Gardeners.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought two of the smaller ones and then purchased the two large ones, these are great, I was get tired of watering my container flowers everyday here in the midwest. If the smaller one could hold a little bit more water that would be perfect. These make a big difference. Great for going on vacation too!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have converted from heavy terra cotta to large lightweight pots. The reservoir fills the bottom, so I add less soil. When the roots get long enough, I can water less.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
These work great. They are a little expensive, but well worth it for busy people that forget to
water their special plants. Would also be great for people who travel alot. Just fill the reservoir before leaving on a trip, and you are good to go.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Definitely helps for pots located in hot locations and non-rainy climates. The lid for the watering tube needs some improvement - its hinge breaks off easily and it often doesnt stay closed - a problem b/c then mosquitos can get in and lay eggs.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The concept was good. Had the material been sturdier, I'd have been very happy. The cap to the feed tube broke off in my hand when I unpacked it. GS replaced it at no charge, but I lost valuable time and am convinced it won't hold up.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I used the product for my outdoor flowering plants in the hope that they would not dry out so quickly in the July heat, but I had to water them daily anyway. I also felt it was difficult to assemble. The directions were for the tomato self watering planter. I was very confused and unsure about assembling the kit.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I had high hopes for this product and looked forward to using it as discribed in the catalog, then I got the kit and assembling it was very confusing, I felt they sent the wrong instructions
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Keeping up with the watering for my potted plants in summer is a challenge, but the conversion kit gives a much appreciated 'grace' period that allows me to leave for a few days with no worries.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
What a great concept. We were able to use these in existing pots which turns out to be quite a savings. They're working well!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Have lots of potted plants outdoors and inside. Have been using the conversion kits for transplants at this time. Not only cuts my watering time down but it also conserves water and I can tell when they NEED water. Love them.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have a favorite potted shade plant that I bring in during the winter but put out on the patio other times. If I forget to water it outside for two days in a row it comes close to death. I repotted it with the converter kit and it is thriving on just one or two waterings a week even on 100-106 degree Texas summer days.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Easy to use and petty to look at.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I travel often for business and my husband is less than regular about watering the outdoor planters. Now I can leave knowing my plants will look as good when I come back as they did when I left.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I originally purchased 4 conversion kits and liked them so much that I ordered six pots with the kits. I will use them in all my pots next year!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Transplanted a Josee Lilac into a large patio pot. The next day the poor bedraggled plant was perky and very very happy! Definitely will purchase more of these for container planters as watering no chore!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The self watering conversion kit has enabled me to really enjoy my hanging basket on my back porch for the first time. The water no longer runs out, my plant is surviving for the first time in this basket and location.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought these to use in a rather large pot, the flare on the 1 gallon size was not quite large enough to touch the sides of the planter, however that was not the problem it is the refill tube - it is too short. I even bought one of the Gardener's Supply planters that came with the self-watering set up and the refill tube was too short for it (top was down inside the post over about two inches). A couple years ago I bought the a french copper bucket and that refill-tube could be extended in a variety of lengths. I wish this product had a refill tube that is adjustable in length, otherwise so far the concept works well. It does help hold some extra water for the pots that are on a patio or deck and this is what I like about the product.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased this product many years ago, and I am still using it. When I recently purchased more large planters for my deck, I decided to do it again. The initial investment is well worth the convenience and durability of this product. My plants thrive, and I don't have to water every day.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I got the gallon conversion kit for a large hanging basket on my porch. The plant is huge, difficult to reach and far from my hose, so I never seem to get around to watering it. After inserting the kit, we had 3 weeks of record heat. I have only added water once and my plant looks great. Now I want more of them for all my potted plants. Everyone thinks I have a green thumb!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
the feeder tube on the large tubs works well
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This worked great. We usually take off for a week every summer and return to dead or dying plants due to the hot temps and low humidity/lack of rain. This year upon our return everything was in great shape and looked as good or better than when we had left.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I think there should be some directions as how the float/straw is inserted one is not sure how to do
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought these kits for tomato plants. I am amazed at how big the tomato plants I put in them are compared to the ones I planted in the garden!
Great buy!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love things that make growing plants easier. No daily watering and more time to spend on all my other flower beds. Wish I would have invented this!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
looks like a good system for minimizing watering tasks
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
this was the best investment i made all year. saves me oodles of time in the evening and morning!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The self-watering kits and planters are great and I've bought several of them over the past few years. The only significant downside I've experienced is poor durability with the self-watering kit after a few seasons. The edge on the screen that holds back the dirt gets brittle (it consists of little flaps that flex when inserted into the pot) and break off. Unfortunately, a replacement part is not available and a whole new kit must be purchased - and it's not cheap. Now I have lots of spare parts!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I don't have to water my outdoor pots every day in our Texas summer.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I don't have to water everyday because of the water capacity of the pot
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This product makes annuals really easy to care for. I plant more annuals than I ever did before.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I find you still have to add water to the top of the planters once a week or so. Much easier then
every day.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Keeps all plants well watered and moist! Takes the guesswork out of watering and cuts down on the daily task. They can survive days without manual watering! This is the secret to beautiful flowers!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I'm into vegetable container gardenig and keeping plants moist in South Florida is a real challenge, especially during our hot summers.
This is working beautifully. No more droopy plants when I get home from work! I would like to see them made sturdier as the outside edge of the platform collapses under the weight of the soil, but it hasn't been a problem. I would also like to see some larger ones for 20" and 24" pots.
I'm planning of converting more pots to self watering in the future because these really work.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
container stays damp if not in sun. the other container that is in sun is always dry and the straw gauge is still at the same place as it was when first planted a month ago.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Purchased this for my son, a weekend gardener, who lives in a region of intense summer sun; this product supports sustainable vegetable gardening, in pots, and especially suitable for this busy professional who does not have the availability to water daily and yet won't settle for anything but homegrown tomatoes and peppers for his weekend grilling sessions.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
My plant tend to bake in our dry heat, but this keeps them fresh!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Easy to assemble, time will tell if it woprks well and keeps my flowers watered!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The item is fine and will work well. However, the lack of instructions is a serious problem. I think that I will be able to figure it out by looking at my other self watering pots and abook on how to grow vegetables in self watering container. If I just had received this item without having the book or the previous full self watering pots, I would have been lost on how to put it together. Please include some sort of instructions for those who don't have these resources.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
In hot, dry Colorado, it's difficult to keep things watered adequately. I bought several of these conversion kits, and will know by summer's end if they increased success in my container garden.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have strictly a container vegetable garden and was looking for a solution to turn my existing pots into self-watering. I already had a lot of very large plastic pots and did not have the $$ to buy a whole new bunch of very expensive self-watering containers and this was a perfect solution at a reasonable price. The parts went together well. I had one inserted ready to go in 15 minutes. The one note is to be careful not to push down too hard on the tube lid to prevent pushing the tube back down into the resevoir. I only bought 2, and will be purchasing more for next year.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This watering system allows me to water every 3-4 days instead of 2-3 times a day. They are the only way I can have beautiful annuals on my porch in this desert climate. Thank you!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Great idea! My plants this summer are lush and full. Last year I watered twice a day and they still died. The desert is so dry but these containers enable me to have green beauty!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I'm using them for vegetables and herbs - outdoors on my patio. So far the plants are thriving, but it's difficult to how effective the containers are. We're having a rainy Spring/early summer.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Using in my large outside flower pots here in dry Colorado to keep flowers watered. Early in season yet and not sure how it will go in the hot summer days but have positive thoughts. One annoyance - received three as ordered but one of the water resevoirs was missing so I had to improvise. Annoying when you get ready to plant and product not complete when you open the packaging.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The self-watering conversion kits are extremely easy to use and work great. I especially like to use them for my pots that do not get rain water directly from the sky. My plants look great and it is so easy to check if they need more water or not.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Great product! I bought two and use them in the two large pots on my front steps. The pots get absolutely baked in the harsh, Southern afternoon sun, but this product keeps my plants happy and lush. One drawback, one of the caps stopped fitting properly after one week. It is more annoying than inconvenient though.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
It will be interesting to see if the small plants roots can travel down about 8 inches and get into the water. Won't know that until I take it apart in the fall.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I just purchased this item this Spring as I love to have pots of flowers at my weekend and vacation cottage but it was a challenge to keep them watered as I was not there everyday. This product works GREAT! my flower pots never looked better.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This is a really neat gizmo that allows you to use your own pots with the same efficiency as the ones from Gardener's supply
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Love this product! Check the water once a week. I hate watering everyday. Perfect fit for me
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
My flowers never looked better-I only have to check the water level once per week. I would definetly purchase this again.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

These conversion kits allow me to use any number of containers which wouldn't normally be considered as "planters".
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I use these inserts in large tubs to maximize soil conditions and and pest control in my sumer vegetable garden.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Water did not transfer from resevoir to soil as advertised. I ended up removing these from my planters and tossing out. Useless product.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Keep soil moist and prevent plants from drying out.Encourages root growth down to water source.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I felt better directions for assembly and placement would have been helpful, however I purchased these for perhaps a slightly larger than optimal container, they probably install easier in a container more their size.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I would have preferred better instructions for assembly & Installation, however I did purchase these for a slightly larger than optimal planter, they probably install easier in a more appropriately sized container.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
My pot was a bit wider at the bottom than required, so I propped up the bowl with styrofoam. This brought the water much closer to the plants, but it seems to make no difference. I still have to water the pot every day and do not see the water level going down much through the spout. The water is not being absorbed up through the plants, so what good is this to me? Do I have to wait for the roots to get down into the holes for this to work? That could take a while and if you change the plants seaasonally, it is conceivable that this will never work as advertised. I am disappointed.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
As advertised, good for household plants that don't need lots of watering attention. Keeps soil drained. I used mine with my house ferns
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I hate watering annual containers daily. This is a great idea that works!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have several 'favorite' planters that did not perform as well as the self-waterers I purchased last year. This conversion option is perfect- lets me keep my old favorites and ensures better growing conditions.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have two beautiful urns around my pool which needed watering all the time or the flowers looked bad for not watering. This was the perfect answer. My flowers look great and are thriving. I have bought more for other pots and couldn't be happier with the product.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
We have a full sun very hot deck, I was watering pots 2 times a day. This lets me do it every other day. A real time saver!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This size self waterer worked well in smaller containers! Eliminates daily watering of outdoor containers.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Used for house ferns in a decorative fern stand/pot. I like the convenience of not having to water frequently. Had to get the smaller size to fit my pot. So far, it's working like advertised.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I found the self watering conversion kits to be fantastic! They really work! It was easy to place them into outdoor pots around the house and just add fresh potting soil plants and you are all done! I would recommend them to anyone!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought 2 of these in blue. They look great but I had some difficulty with the watering tube adjustment and have already broken one cap off. Self watering does seem to be helping keep from watering every day which is great!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought 5 self watering kits. One of them was for the pot on my father's grave. We live some distance from the cemetery so it will reduce trips to the cemetery. They were easy to assemble and insert into the pots. I also have the self watering window box and have won runner up in a contest with Gardener's Supply with flower plantings one season. Also have 3 of your hanging baskets and they cut watering time as well. Have gone 2 weeks without watering the window box after it was first planted. What is also nice is that the parts to the self watering window box system can be replaced if they become broken. I would definitely recommend to a friend.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Love the windowbox self waterer - works perfectly! but was disappointed when I installed the conversion kits - the water did not draw up into the soil, probably because I did not use the self watering potting soil. I'm ordering the soil and hopefully that will help.

I have a dozen or so large self-watering tomato planters, as well as, decorative large flower pots and hanging baskets. This is a great idea and great product. Self-watering pots and expensive. However, with this product I can convert the larger inexpensive flower pots into excellent self-watering pots. Unlike most brick & mortar store pots that only hold a small amount of water, this conversion allows for a large gallon water reservoir, and is much easier to fill.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
It works great. Will order more.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
unique design; saves a tremendous amount of time; would like to see more sizes, e.g. different lengths for planter boxes
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Every year I plant flowers, herbs, and sometimes tomatoes in large pots on the patio. Usually they start out fine , but then, as my enthusiasm lessens they suffer the same fate;under watered and over stressed! But I must say that these self watering inserts have been amazing! I only purchased 3 (for my largest containers), but I am DEFINITELY purchasing more! My hibiscus flowers are blooming none stop and I'm not stressing because I forgot to water them! Gardeners Supply has never let me down yet! I will continue to purchase my gardening needs from you! It is easy to buy online, and through the catalog,[...]. Thank you for your wonderful products!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The plants don't need watering as daily
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This product converts every container you own into every container you own that largely waters itself.
Go away on vacation for a week. Water your container heavily... fill the water reservoir in the conversion kit... go away and don't worry about your containers. They will be self watered for days and days. I never had such magnificent containers in 52 years of gardening.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I am unsure how long I can go between waterings. There was no information about it, and I called a representative and they didn't have any information for me either. I have had to water from the top of my plants also, and it is difficult to determine if water is still in container.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The inserts were easy to assemble. My planters get alot of sun and have dried our very quickly in the past. The self watering inserts have been a life saver. My planters look better than they ever did in the past. This is a grest idea if you have already invested in outdoor pots and dont want to replace the entire thing.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This is a great item, but the fill tube is too close to the center of the pot and it made it hard to get the plant centered. The larger version doesn't have this problem.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
After I ordered these and received them, I had discarded the catalog with the picture so I had no idea how to install them. Now on your questionnaire I find a picture of how to put them in, I did it all wrong, but now I have 4 pots that may work or not work, who knows. There must be some kind of illustration or directions as how to properly use this product.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Just installed so we will see how it performs. Seems to make sense that it should work. Quality product and just what I expected.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I'm really happy with the results of using this along with the organic growing medium for self watering containers
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Love the idea that I can put the water reservoir in my own container. The one pot that I do not have it in is NOT doing as good so I feel it is doing its job.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
One of two kits worked very well.
Cover on second kit does not close. When forced, fill tube dropped to second notch barely above soil level - after planting was complete!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I put my tomatoes in large pots. the self watering units help prevent stressing them in the hot days of summer.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This is a very economical option for outdoor plants that have absentee owners. I purchased five and am very pleased with the results.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I bought 2 self-watering pots 2 years ago and love them. The only part I was not happy about was that the floater on one pot was no longer popping up to show me when I needed to add more water. So I decided to purchase the replacements and even got an extra one for another pot. I look forward to all of my pots in full bloom!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This product works well and is easy to use
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I can keep the water level appropriate for my plants without over watering.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Early days, but these were pretty easy to assemble. We put them in 5-gal buckets.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Bought this product to maintain water in a large pot that gets direct desert sun in the afternoon. It's easy to maintain the large water reservoir and my flowers appear to be doing much better.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Very small water reservoir[...] Advertised correctly but too small for any reasonable sized plant.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Allows me to water the plants on my porch once a week.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
My favorite planters are clay pots of which I have quite a selection.
The self watering conversion kits help the pots from drying out so fast.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased one of these conversion kits to give it a try, & it is working out very well. I was able to get exactly the pot that I wanted, rather than being limited to the choices of available self-watering pots. I planted balsam and coleus seedlings, and they are doing nicely. I only had to water from the top twice, and apparently the plants have sent their roots down quickly; the top of the soil appears dry but the flowers are looking great.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have been using these self-watering conversion kits in large pots outside the doors of a commercial building that I own. Two of the pots are so deep that I used a piece of pvc pipe to extend the watering hole to the surface. They permit me to have a life and not be a slave to my pots. I can go away for a week and not worry about my plants dying in the summer. I just ordered new ones for my cottage.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Dry summer winds were always a concern when it came to deciding whether or not to bother with potted plants. With the coversion kit(s), my plants have a fighting chance now!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I used to have to ask my neighbor to come and water my plants every day whenever I would go out of town. Now I just ask her to walk around the house and check out if all the plants are alright. During my last week long trip she did not have to water at all.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
These pots are perfect for both our home & shore house. Because go back & forth between them all summer, I don't have to worry about my plants & flowers when I'm not there. I used to always have to ask a neighbor to tend to them in my absence. I also bought the conversion kits for my existing planters this year. Now I only spend about one morning a week watering everything instead of every day. They are well worth every penny and save me so much time.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I want pretty plants and color without spending so much time watering during the summer, and especially if going out of town for a few days. These work for our Texas hot climate and I am going to change out all my pots to use them. However, the tubes are not long enough for trees, but perfect for flowers or plants not needing deep roots. I just ordered more.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I'm using the product in the bottom of half whiskey barrel. I'm hoping this device keeps the tomatos well watered in the hot summer sun. This is a first time purchase/use.
Directions are on the website!!!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I live in a place where the summers are often 90 to 110 degrees so going on even a short vacation is a problem. With the self watering kit I can leave for a few days without worrying about returning to dead potted plants.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I live in a very warm climate and find it hard to keep outdoor plants adequately watered through the summer. I have used the Gardeners Supply self-watering planters for years -- to now be able to turn any pot or planter into a self-watering container is a fantastic option. These were easy to 'install' and my plants are thriving.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Overall, I was pleased with these kits as they let me use some existing containers. However, the caps on some of the fill tubes (2 of 5) do not close easily or pop open. It was not worth returning (didn't realize until after plant was potted), but is slightly annoying.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I had a problem with two things on the conversion kits I bought. First the water level indicator is too tough to cut with scissors as instructed. Second the tube that holds the water level indicator does not close properly--does not click shut. These problems didn't exist with the self-watering pots I originally bought.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love to grow stuff in containers, but hate having to water every day, or more in the hottest part of summer. The self watering containers have been my salvation. These kits really do convert any pot, are well designed, and always amaze me how the moisture wicks up. I think they also encourage root development and depth.
I've stuck with the larger converters and pots after some disappointment a few years ago with the small "tomato" planters. I still think the larger system is likely to work better. Also, I don't know how this system would work with soil that wasn't specifically for self watering.
My one complaint, is that the tops break off pretty easily, and for me they are easy to lose. I think a string attaching top to the watering cylinder would hold up better than the plastic strap.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I wanted to decrease the time spent watering during the week but enjoy having annual containers that are portable. I love the self-watering options but had alot of containers of my own. I converted a bunch of mine into self waterers for a relatively low cost (compared to buying all new containers) and now move my containers around to get the best sun and shade combinations.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
These work great. Works great in drought areas because you use less water. I no longer have to water my potted plants twice a day in the summer. Only every other day.

This product allowed me to "upgrade" some old pots by making them self-watering...much better than before!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
We are away from home frequently and when we are not, I forget to water. This product holds enough water for a week even in Texas where it is hot!!!!
I had 3 palm trees planted in pots with these devices that survived the hot Texas summer on our covered deck. I purchased 4 more recently along with 2 of the self watering planters for herbs.
My only complaint is that the tube for watering is not long enough for large pots. My husband had to extend the tube with pvc pipe. It would be nice if it was long enough that all you had to do was cut it off if it was too long.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I put these in two tomato pots and two flower pots (all large ones) and the plants are all doing great. I have only had to fill up the water reservoir two times in 18 days! I would normally have to water these plants every few days! It's going to make leaving on vacation that much better!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I love this product even though it is a first time user item. What I especially like is the adaptability. I used it to convert a small"over the fence" hanging horse watering trough to a hanging garden. Wonderful!
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I purchased a self-watering pot on sale. I didn't realize that the kit to make the pot self-watering was not included. I ordered the conversion kit. It fit like a glove.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
There's a 'straw' that is the indicator of the water level in the 'well'. And that's capped off at the top. However, the cap broke off on assembly on 2 and won't stay 'on' on the other 2.
The water drains out immediately on one - I doubt I'm overfilling it that quickly as others don't drain out. Since I can't 'see' what's going on in the depths of the pots, I just need to trust the water being provided to the plants. These are outside on a sunny deck. Warm weather will tell if these make the difference.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
So far it is working well. I think it is overpriced for what it is. I like that it is flexible and fits a variety of planter sizes. It was easy to assemble. I would have liked a longer "pipe" to fill water as in some pots it is lower that where I would want the soil line to be.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Plan on converting all my pots to self-watering.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
We can have strange weather here in Co. some days its hot and the next it is cool and windy. So this keeps the plants at an even moistness. I hope it will help with the bloosom end rot on tomatoes.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have already purchased a number of self watering planters and pots and I love them. Now I want all my planters to be self watering. I bought these to convert some smaller pots. I just planted them this weekend so we'll see, but I'm sure they'll be great.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The reservoirs made the difference between dead plants and happy plants. Especially if you have to be away for a day or two during the hot months.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This product is great and performs easily up to your expectations and its promise. Plants stay moist and are never subjected to the "drown and drought" problem I normally face with a blistering western exposure for my deck plants. The "bobber" that sticks up out of the pot looks a little silly and I often take it out. Don't really need it.
One recommendation would be to construct this item for an XX-large pot. I have a giant pot I like to use which is too big for one unit, and too small for two.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Love these because otherwise I don't water enough and my potted plants always die. Easy to setup and the conversion kit is nice for replacement pieces in older kits or for converting regular potted plant pots to self watering pots.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I've had self watering pots in the past but they're impossible to find any more in local stores. It's been about three weeks since I started using this product and my plants in great shape so I assume it's doing the job. I didn't think to cut the watering hole shorter so it sticks up from the soil a couple of inches. Next time I would cut it to be shorter and not so obvious. I would recommend having the water tube more off to the side to be able to center the plant. What I did was cut through the roots and take out a section for the tube to fit into so the plant would be centered.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
We live in near desert (Texas Hill Country). This product allows me to water less often. The soil top may be dry but the roots are still enjoying nutrition and hydration.
Thank-you from the plants.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I converted five clay pots which were too pretty to throw away, using the self-watering liners. They were easy to install and even the big old geraniums I had to lift out in order to install the new units are thriving with the improved watering systems.
I like the hanging pot too. It will keep plants fresh through our hot, hot south Texas summer.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
The dimensions weren't clear to me as to how it would fit into the planter/pot I had,but I received a quick response to my email as to which size would fit my pot and a quick and helpful response from the staff. It fits perfectly into the large resin pot/planter on my deck. It was easy to put together after I looked up the online directions. Since I just got this, I can't tell yet how it will perform, but it assembled easily and looks as if it will serve its purpose. I used some of the other reviewers' comments to decide if I would buy this.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Easy to install; works great.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Pot dimensions given for each size was too big to allow for a closure between the sealing fins and the pot.
The fill cap hinge broke while we were inspecting it.
The connection between the screen and the pot was so flimsy as to separate during gentle handling.
German design is not an indication that the item will be robust.
Will probably return the items even if I am not reimbursed.

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
These seem to work well, but including instructions would be a good idea. They are not overly complicated, but I wasn't 100% sure that I was putting them together correctly, and I had no idea what the water level indicator piece was!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Water opening in middle of pot for smaller sizes and comes up about 2 - 3 inches below lip of pot depending on what pot you're using. Difficult to position plants and then they're too low.
I would use TerraSorb product instead of this - cheaper and easier to use.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I've got a stack of these waiting for the right pot. I've got a number of the self-watering pots available here, but would like some different styles. These inserts are perfect. I would like to be able to get some longer tubes for the very large pots. Also, the lid has broken off from two of the older pots. No big deal as it still works.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
This really helped me save money. Rather than start all over with what tends to be a limited choice of style for self-waterning containers, I just added these to my favorites! The were a little small so I circled them with an old tee-shirt and they fit perfectly.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Great for my summer home that we visit only on the weekends. Don't have to rely on teenagers to remember to water plants. I have purchased 5 in total, and will replace all of my pots over the next several years.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
A great way to modernize some of my favorite old pots.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
Cuts down on watering time.
Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I use these in my sunroom to overwinter outside plants. I would suggest adding wicking to help keep the soil moist until the roots grow down into the water. There's no way to get the water to wick up into the soil without it. The reservoir could have more capacity. Otherwise, a good product!!

Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:
I have used these conversion kits for years and I think they are fabulous. With these reservoirs my containers in the shade get water when I get around to it, about once a week even in the brutal August heat. The containers in the sun need water every few days. But, that's still a WHOLE lot better than it would be without self-watering convenience. I leave the reservoirs in pots that stay outside all winter and I haven't had a problem. They are a little flimsy, but not too bad. But, with self-watering containers I've found that you do need to stick with plants that can tolerate wet feet.
