The earthy, muted colors of these lightweight polypropylene planters mimic the aged patinas of copper and iron. Antique pots from an Italian villa inspired their embossed designs, but they're actually thoroughly modern in function and material. Extra large soil capacity and a one-gallon water reservoir ensure your plants stay moist without daily attention.

  • Self-watering planters with a classical form
  • 1-gallon reservoir drought-proofs your plants
  • Choice of Rust or Verdigris
  • We also offer smaller
  • Our is the perfect planting mix!

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

I was surprised how large the planter was. I should have paid attention to the dimensions when I ordered it. Though I decided to keep it and I think it looks great and holds a veritable garden of flowering plants and ivy now. Took me a little time to figure out the self watering device. I had to rig a way to close the water cap, because it didn't latch. I am looking forward to watering less. Have to say I'm very happy with it overall.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

The self-watering grid and black pails are too small for this large pot. We added a foam (Pink Insulation type) circle cut to fit the pot to hold the soil above the grid, otherwise, it would have fallen down the insides of the pot. With this modification, we love this planter. For those who have issues with the tube being too short, you need to add the second black pail upside down to support the right-side up pail. This will raise the tube up.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

The container doesn't have the weathered bronze appearance like that picture in the catalog or on the web page. It seems sturdy, but let's hope it weathers well. Unfortunately the SIP included was clearly an improvization and far too small for the container, resulting in several problems. 1) To bring the fill tube opening near the top of the pot, you have to turn the extra bowl upsidedown, set it in the bottom of the planter, and then set the reservoir on top of it. But that brings the fill tube opening just barely even with the rim of the planter. 2) For the float mechanism in the fill tube to function properly, the fill tube should be straight up and down, but since the hole in which it sits is so close to the center of the pot, even a small root ball forces the fill tube at an angle. 3) With the fill tube now at such an angle, it's about 1-2" below the rim of the planter. 4) Putting the additional bowl under the reservoir costs you 4" or more of soil under the plant and makes it impossible to use for some plants. At [$] each, it should come with an SIP that fits the container. Unfortunately I figured all this out after drilling holes in the bottom (the first step in setting up the planter), so I couldn't return them. With a properly sized SIP, it would be fine and I could recommend them.

These are great looking and garnered many compliments from my neighbors and passersby last summer. They really performed well in full sun during the hot, dry months. The only problem with them was that I had to drill my own drainage holes in the sides, to prevent excess rainfall from overflowing the reservoir and filling up the container.

self watering feature a JOKE. the water tube even fully extended was not long enough to accommodate the size of this planter, it was appx 2 inches from top of planter, and with bottom depth taken up by the water resevoir, it is simply not functional as a self watering pot. It was a rip off, in terms of the quality of the pot and the fact that self watering feature was useless...

I've purchased Gardner's Supply self-watering planters before and love them. I needed a large one and thought this one would be similar to the 5 or 6 others I've purchased, with preformed holes for watering. Unfortunately not.

When it arrived, the directions said to drill holes on the sides for drainage and there were additional pots ...to go under the platform? I have no clue.

    I was disappointed.

I've loved Gardner's Supply's self-watering planters. I have 6 or 7. I needed a large one so ordered the 23" version shown here. It's advertised as self-watering with a gallon reservoir, yet when it arrived I learned I had to drill drainage holes vs. the pre-manufactured "key-hole" or watering hole my other planters have. In addition nothing was included to tell me what to do with the bowl sitting under the platform... does it catch & hold water? Is it support for the platform? It doesn't seem very logical for it to be reservoir...? I'm disappointed.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

We repotted a coconut palm, queen sago and heliconia, all 36-48 inches tall. The root balls were quite large, so we needed the space of the 23-inch planter. The refill tube on the self-watering reservoir is too short, so Gardener's Supply provides an extra reservoir bowl to be placed on the bottom upside down to raise the reservoir the plant will actually use. Only problem with that is that it takes away valuable soil space. It also raises the top part of the reservoir, which is then has a diameter that is too small for the pot (soil gets down into the bottom). So instead, we cut PVC piping the same diameter as the refill tube, but longer, and retrofitted it instead. It works great. The planters are beautiful, spacious, and were lightweight before the soil and plants went in. Since these plants get moved to a secure location during a hurricane, the weight was a big issue. The instructions tell you to drill drainage holes on the side, about 2 inches from the bottom. It wasn't hard, but it required additional work.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

This product is very poorly designed. The reservoir does not reach the outer edges on the inside of the pot so that soil is wasted as it falls to the bottom of the pot through the gaps. I am going to return the one I did not drill a hole in - an extra step that was not mentioned in the literature. I think this is one of the poorest products I have ever ordered from any comapny.Additionally the workaround makes the product worse. I wasted a lot of time on this product and have not one good thing to say about it.

The self watering kit that comes with this pot does not fit the pot. The kit is flimsy at best and must be modified before it will work. The pot has no drain holes, you have to drill them yourself. My pots arrived in the wrong color, TWICE! At one time I had 6 pots, 4 the wrong color and finally 2 correct ones. I had to return 4, a lot of effort for a simple order.

These are a beautiful addition to our patio. We love the look and the fact that they are so light weight and easy to clean. The one downside was the assembly which was not as easy as we'd have liked. Drilling drain holes required some effort. I wished they were pre-drilled. I also wished that the containers had shipped with some light weight fill for the bottom of the pots or that it was available for sale with the pot and marketed as "you might also like ..."
All in all great investment. We hope to use these for years to come.

I like the pot very much but do not like the tube that measures how much water is in the bottom. It is the same with the Cortina pots; a white plastic tube with styrofoam on the end. It gets caught on the bottom edge of the water tube that goes in the water holder and it is very hard to get it to come up so I can see if it needs more water. [...] I also ordered 3 of your window boxes and their system of water measurement works much better.

I got a set of the Ravello planters in Verdigris, which is a really nice shade of green. They look lovely, one on each side of the front door. I put dwarf trees in them and annual flowers around the bottom. Really large enough pots to hold several plants. They look really beautiful. The pots have a large reservoir in bottom which will help in the really hot weather since they are in full sun. Very happy. Thank You.

Didn't like fact there was lost root space because had to turn additional reservoir upside so spout reached top of container. Suggest custom make a longer tube spout for this size container, since some may have ordered to plant bush/tree.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

Quite large size for most applications unless your planting a tree because the self watering mech. takes up a third of the capacity and is not the same quality as their window boxes, but work the same. If assembled correctly the only modification needed is drain holes in bottom of pot. But the colors are darker than photographed, as mentioned in a previouse review.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

The self watering addition for the larger sized pot severely diminishes the growing room (to 1/3 of the pot) for the plant that needed the larger pot in the first place. Instead of using the two water reservoirs on top of each other to make the refill tube reach the soil line, I used one reservoir and took the tube to a hardware store and extended the overall length by cutting the tube in half and extending it 8-10 inches with a slightly larger PVC tube. Seems to me the manufacturer should have seen the “Oops” on this one. After my mini engineering task, the plant has nice growing room and is doing quite well.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

These are nice looking outdoor planters with a few technical quirks. The water compartment at the bottom takes up at least 1/4 of the overall planting capacity. You'll lose another 1/4 at the top if you want to use the fill tube that comes as part of the self-watering apparatus. The fill tube ends at about 5 to 6 inches from the top rim, so if you were to fill the pot almost to the top you would cover it. On the positive side, the planters are sturdy and work very well for my citrus plants. I am using a very lightweight planting mix which aids in drawing up moisture from the reservoir to the plant roots.

I bought 4 of these planters and will buy more. My only design comment is that both colors are not as pictured. The verdigris is much darker, almost a dark grey with a green tinge; the rust color is darker as well, almost like a chocolate brown. Still nice but not as shown.

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

I have ordered several self watering pots from this site that I've loved. They are the kind where there is a tray in the bottom that you water from the outside of the pot. Because they don't make this kind in a larger pot, I had to order a large pot with a self watering device that goes inside. Despite the extra riser provided, I feel the system is too small for the size of the pot. The riser makes at least 1/4 of the pot unusuable.[...].

I planted a large topiary and a ground cover in the pot. The fill tube was about 3 inches too short. I ended up covering it with soil and watering the pot like I would any other large pot.

I got these for flowers in the front of my south-facing house. Because of the heat, everything else I tried dried out too fast to be successful. I have beautiful pots of flowers this year that don't require even daily watering (let alone twice-daily with other planters).

    Comments about Ravello Planters, 23":

The Ravello 23" planter is exactly what I wanted and matches the description provided. With one exception ---- I ordered the color verdigris, which appears in the catalog as a soft, pale green verdigris. What I received was a very DARK green verdigris. Almost 'black green'. It actually is a nice color unto itself, but it's not the color that will work for my patio decor. So I have sent email to customer service inquiring about the possibility of any lighter ones in stock. If it weren't for the color mis-match, I would have given this 5 stars as I own other self-watering planters from Gardeners and know how well they work; and I do like the esthetics of the Ravello design, etc. Overall, the planter does not disappoint.

I am using the self watering planters to grow Angel Trumpets in the hot dry Texas weather. I don't have to worry about their getting enough water when it doesn't rain. They are getting tall and budding up beautifully. Great when you don't live in the tropical climate or if you want to go away for a week or more. No watering worries.
