Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

We used the edging around small (4'x4') garden boxes. Makes it so much easier when mowing--no need to use the trimmer. Purchased the walnut. Looks very nice. We dug below the grass level and placed the edging just slightly below the grass. Works perfectly. It is expensive, but we expect it to last.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I'd been looking for a natural looking border for the longest time and this fits the bill. It is so easy to put down and looks like natural mulch. I held it down with the garden stakes that Gardeners Supply sells and they are easy to hold down. I would definately recommend this to anyone who wants to stop grass and weeds from encroaching into their garden beds.

Edging border
By JudiVerified Purchaser from Davis, Illinois on 4/20/2011
Pros:
Easy to Apply, I forgot to get the clips
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I bought it to do in front of my bed for ease of mowing. I forgot to get the clips though. I tried it in the back of my house as a weed preventative in the step off to the lawn and without the clips, my dog chewed it up in one day. That was an expensive lesson. I haven't installed it yet in the front bed area, this spring hasn't been a spring yet in Illinois. It seems like it would keep the weeds down, and if I dig into the ground just a little bit to install it with the clips to hold it, I believe that I would be able to mow over it to make my mowing easier for trimming.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

We have a triangular garden bordered by a driveway and a walk. The garden had to be built a little higher than the surrounding area. This was a great border to use so that if you step off the walk or driveway you step on it rather than into the garden. It was easy to install, even on curves. Love it.

I bought this product to help save me time in the garden and it seems to work! This is the first summer I have had it so don't know yet how long-lasting it is in snow country, but has worked well this summer. Has cut down time in having to edge the flower beds. And it was easy to install. I eventually ordered the earth staples to help hold it in place and they are working great too!

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I put this product around the house in place of pavers. Easy to apply. Doesn't curl (use staples to hold in place) I can let one wheel of the mower ride on it to keep grass trimmed. My only concern, one type of grass can push through the center of the mat.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

We used this border around a raised bed garden this Spring. It matches loose mulch in the yard, was easy to install, and makes the area neater and more pleasing to the eye. So far, it has kept weeds from growing, eliminating trimming there, and has kept mud from splashing the stone. We are now installing the border along the outside of our deck.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I wanted an attractive "gap" between the weedy lawn, and my flower bed, a kind of barrier to keep the pervasive weeds from spreading into my garden. This edge border looks good, but only time will tell if it controls the progression of weeds. The only problem I'm having with it is getting the curled-up ends to lie flat.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

When first put down it looks great. But I have centipede grass which will grow over and under his mat. So I'm having to constantly keep the grass trimmed near it. Oh, and I have to be careful with the lawn mower and not get the blade close to the mat or it will shred it.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

This couldn't be simpler to use. After unrolling the edge I laid a brick on each end for a day or two to make it lay flat. These were simple to cut to fit the length and borders I needed. They have killed the grass underneath them which will hopefully keep that much more grass out of my flower beds. The best of all, they gave my beds a professional look and have made them beautifull. I will continue to buy as I expand my flower beds.

I use this product for a totally different purpose. My dog has made a "track" along our fence. When it rains it is quite muddy. So to make my life easier, without having to worry about muddy paws and belly. I have laid end to end 4 strips. Landscaper pins work great at holding down the strips. Now she has a solid surface to run back and forth on and I have no more mud! Love it!

I ordered several lengths of this edging, and I really liked it. But, when I needed more, in quantity, I bought it locally. Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I purchased only 1 roll of the Edge Border to see how well it would work. I've got flower beds around the back yard fence that need to be edged before I mow the lawn. After 1 wk the grass was dying underneath. Once I get in all my flower beds, I will purchase more. It's great to run the wheels of the mower on this border. I will probably use landscape fabric stakes to keep the border in place.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

THis solves all the shortcomings of this product and uses the good points! Was at a friend's house when the idea hit me! I told her to get her WEED BLOCK FABRIC, cut in half and adding 6" in front of the weed block fabric ALREADY under her garden. THEN we added this great edging as decoration! WOW! WOW! WOW! All she does now is go out and admire the perfection! It has been TWO YEARS now and NOTHING GROWS THROUGH! Before, even Roundup was challenged by her weeds and sooo poisonous to the environment! If you add an extra 6" sticking out of weed fabric when you make new beds you wont even have to add more fabric. Just this! ALL PROBLEMS SOLVED! TRY IT!

Bottom Line:

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

Works well to keep down weeds but not quack grass. I have to remove the edging at least twice a year to treat with Round-up to keep grass out of the mats. In my yard moles love to run under the edging which requires me to pull the edging up every month to reposition after a mole attack. The edging looks nice when all things go well but it does require work to keep it that way. It's not a use and forget product.

Had these in the garage for 2 years and finally installed them. Lost the stakes that came with it. However, I made some of my own by using some metal rods bent to for spikes. Worked very well. You must take the time to make sure the area under the edging is level, even and solid. Since we have OCD this was not a problem.

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I used this to edge my personal beds. What a disappointment! It was hard to tack down w/ earth staples, had to hammer them in, hard to bend and shape the material. Material is heavy so cost a lot to ship, and then the weeds & grass grew OVER it. I used it two years, and that was enough of messy looking edges. During removal, the roots of plants had indeed grown through the material. I had to toss all of it. Not a practical product. I'm back to hard edging beds again!

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

We have used this border next to existing borders of wood and stone to keep grass from getting into flower beds through these borders. It makes the edging look much neater and is containing the grass. A similar product is available at big box stores, but this is thicker and more attractive. We purchased staples to help hold it in place but did not need them.

I use this around my flower bed and it does make a nice and neat appearance when the lawn can be cut right up to it. The mower goes over this easily. The only couple of suggestions I might make is the way it is bundled and shipped. I think it would be easier to handle and lay if it were packaged flat versus rolled because at the end of the section where I need to cut, the ends want to roll and not lay flat. Though, it can be rectified by placing small rocks on the ends for while. Also, I think it would like just as nice if it came in a nice shade of green.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

These will work great along a straight path or edge. I'm not certain what a "GENTLE" curve is, but there isn't much curving allowed. They are not really designed for curves. If you've a nice and square bed, these will work great as do the other Recycled Rubber Mulch products. If you've taken the artistic approach and have curves and turns, this isn't really for you.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

Have been using this edging for many years around my flowerbeds and sidewalk. The color matches the mulch I use perfectly. Several people have asked how I keep my mulch so neat! I don't have to edge as frequently, just mow right over. After a few years, grass does start growing through a little, but I spray with a non-selective vegetation killer once a year and that solves the problem! So much easier than weeding and edging every week!

Pros:
Better than bare ground, Safe
Cons:
Expensive, Ineffective, Inefficient
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

The product looks better than bare ground from using Roundup. I tried to use it to provide a space on the grass side of edging to mow over and eliminate trimming. In rural areas seeds and dirt are constantly being deposited by wind and animals. Seeds will germinate right in the product itself and dirt makes this problem worse by providing an even better media for growth. So I still need to use Roundup and worry about overspray. It also requires a large number of staples or stakes, which are also not very effective and add to the cost, to hold the product down.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I HATE trimming grass! Saw these and thought what a terrific idea. Have now got them around a couple of large beds that have stone wall borders. The edgers with the whip string would get chewed up so quickly by hitting the stone that I would have to hand trim everything. Now we just have the wheel of the mower go along the edge of these mats and NO MORE TRIMMING!!! They do have to be staked down so the mower doesn't pull up the edging, but it doesn't take too many stakes to do that.

I purchased this edging about 2 years ago - it stayed boxed and in my garage for a year. When I opened the box, the color was truly disappointing. Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I have bought the red border before and it bled all over my yard and islands after the first rain. I originally bought a small amount of this darker one thinking it would probably do the same but I wanted to test it to be sure. It works far better. It has never lost it's color or bled anywhere in my yard. It also keeps the border looking great for more than just one season. My original batch I installed two years ago and it still looks great and needs no maintenance other than blowing leaves and pine straw off of it. The red on the other hand had to be pulled up after it bled out all the color, weeds grew up thru it and it just looked very shabby after a month...not even a full season! But this darker one rocks!

A new and most invasive weed has become resident in our area. Until we installed the edge border, using the earth staples to secure it in place, it was almost impossible to keep the weed from encroaching into the garden. It climed the rock wall border and detracted from the beauty of the garden. Since then, we have been able to control the weed problem with greater efficiency. We're delighted with this product.

I had problems with keeping grass contained and stopped from growing into my flower beds. I thought this product would help. While it made a nice edge on my flower bed and was easy to install,I had to keep pulling out the grass which grew right through the fibers. Also, I hate the reddish color. Last year was the first year I used it. As time progressed the color faded from the sun and now its a washed out greyish brown. Sorry I got it. A total waste of good money!

I placed my Edge Border along the flower beds and in front of our vinyl privacy fencing. It gives our yard a finished, clean look. I keep the edge in place with earth stakes and that allows me to run a lawn mower close to it and eliminates the use of a weed whacker against the vinyl fencing preventing damage. I am going to order more in the spring and put it all the way around my fence on both sides.

This edger is GREAT! It is easy to install and gives a very finished look to your flower beds and makes mowing a breeze with no need to use a weed whacker to do the edges. I've also used it to edge a brick pathway and patio and it looks great.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

My husband use to run into and over everything in my garden with the lawn mower before I put down the edging! Now this gives him the room he needs to move around the edges of my garden beds with ease! It is easy to install, lays flat and looks wonderful. Thank you for making a product that lasts year after year and still looks and works great.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

This edge border does a great job of defining the edge between the flower beds and the lawn, and really keeps the weeds out. I am especially impressed with the way it was, indeed, able to follow the slight curving of the beds. However, at this amount, it should be able to do that! After finding some at my local store for about half, I wish I'd shopped around some more. Also, these really do need to be secured, so you'll need to get some landscaper pins/stakes at your local store. The up side: My flower beds and the edge of the lawn look great, it matches my compost mulch in color, and I don't fight with the lawn anymore!

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

We installed this over the weekend. We installed A LOT of it so I'm hoping that it will be a good thing in the end. We actually dugabout a 1/2" down so we could still mow over it. It transformed our creeping zoysia edges (even with edging/weed eating) to clean lines that I love. We did our back yard and are ordering a bunch more for the front yard as I type.

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

I cut each of these 10' sections into three 3' 4" pieces and use them as "weights" to hold insect screening and spunbonded row covers in place at the ends of my 3'x25' beds. They're just the right weight, really grip onto the material, and are ground-hugging so they conform to the shape/slope of the ground in order to seal out insects.
From moving them so much, they eventually rip, so if you could make that white fabric on the back a bit stronger, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
Harlan Holmes

Comments about 5-1/2" Edge Border:

Several years ago I purchased the black edging to put between my counrty garden and the front lawn. It was a bit more difficult to install than stated but OK. This year I have grass starting to grow through that first mulch now in its third year of service. This year I purchased more of the 5 1/2" edging for the same purpose, but decided to get the redwood color. Whether this is just a different manufactor or the different color, and the process that it has to go through to render it dyable material, the redwood colored product is not as good a quality as the black. There are cracks that go through the rubber to the backing. And ya, maybe it was damaged by a semi running over it somehow.

I bought a similar product a few years ago and when I wanted to expand and better define my flower beds, I thought this would be a good option. I couldn't find it locally again and was happy to find it here. Easy to install (no digging, just roll it out and secure it with landscape staples),flexible, easy to mow over, and a recycled product to boot. The stuff I bought over 5 years ago has not broken down so it should also be cost efficient.

I hate using a weed whipper..since my ankles tend to suffer the most. Never quite got the hang of the thing! This eliminates the need to trim along garden edges. Now my husband can mow right up to the edge.
