The cattails give off a pleasant subdued light that I enjoy looking at every evening. They are quite attractive in the garden. The leaves on these cattails are very fragile as others have noted. I have solved the problem by making a loop out of twine and tieing it to the cattail light above the leaves and looping it over the leaves keeping them upright and it stops them from bending and breaking off. These make great gifts and my daughters love them and they are not an item you can find at your local garden center. Thanks Gardener's Supply!

I have 3 and have replaced 2 of them in SIX Months.... Bulb is NOT bright and leaves fall over after a small bird leans on them. leaves then break off after bending them back up.

This product is HORRIBLE and lacks quality...

I overlooked the description stating this was for just ONE cattail light. My dog found the solar battery and wire to be very tasty. So, unfortunetly, I have not seen the light come one. It is still lovely and at some point I will purchase more and keep them away from my dog so I can see them with the lights.

I arranged 3 solar cattails around a small pond(which also lights up)and it looks great!These have a more subtle and subdued light due to the amber glass(which I really like),so if you are wanting brighter lights to accent your garden,these will not work well for that purpose.

The cattails do not fill with light. I have tried every suggestion in the instructions, they get full sun for twelve hours per day, and only the bottom one-third of each cattail is illuminated. I am not particularly happy with this product. I would not buy it knowing what I now know.

We set up the solar cattail in our fountain area. At dusk we noted a very faint light at the very bottom of the cattail amber glass unit. It never got any brighter over the course of several nights . . . just one little light and the glow does not extend the full height of the cattail. A bit disappointing.

The light is weak; its illumination does not begin to match product picture.
Use this product during the day when it is really much more attractive. Light is weak and leaves are not visible in the dark.
Leaves are weak at joint and bend extremely easily -- keep this cattail out of anything more than mild breeze so leaves aren't caught in wind and end up bent down to the ground.
Put it in your garden (with surrounding plants providing wind protection) and, as a unique garden accent, it will look very nice.

my fault I supose for not reading carefully enough, but the picture is deceptive I think, with showing three and not specifying that this is for ONE cat tail..very disappointed when I opened the box and found only one..it just gets lost in the flower bed near the pool. It has been set up for several days, and I have yet to see any light coming from it. very disappointing.

It is really pretty in the sunlight. The crackle pattern catches the light and really makes it glow. At night though, the led only catches the bottom third of the cattail, so it is not quite as pretty. Wish it had some mechanism to make the light diffuse higher up, the way the Northern Light globes do.

My sister grows cattails for the fair in WA, so I thought this would be a great gift, but I also got one for myself also. The metal leaves after just a few days are rusted at the post and feel they may not last long. The light only lights up about 1-2 inches of the bottom of the cattail. The idea is adorable. With 3 in the photo, I expected more than 1 in the box. Any outdoor light (even slight) kills the effect of the night ambiance. Daytime? It appears to be a form of art in the garden.

The light itself is not well-designed. All it emits is a bright amber spark at the base of the light, while I expected an amber glow (faint would be OK) in the cat-tail flower. Thus the effect at night is disappointing. The appearance by day is OK but don't buy it for the night effect.

The artistic design and quality is quite good, but the function of the LED light is less than satisfying. It merely makes an amber "dot" of light...it does not illuminate the entire glass "cat tail". The item itself is very attractive in the garden, but the night display is disappointing.

The cattail lights are beautiful, but 2 were broken before I got them out of the box. The cattail head is too heavy for the stem. The lense of the light is not fragile, as indicated in the instruction manual, but the attachment to the stem is very fragile and breaks very easily. I didn't unpack 2 of them because the 1st two were broken. I am returning these lights, but they are very pretty if they would stay together.

The best thing about this product is that it has a remote solar panel. I can place the solar panel in direct sunlight and put the cat tail behind shrubbery. At night, the cat tail helps to accent the landscaping.

I have had good luck with the lights so far. I had 3 for 2 years and just got 2 more. I replaced the batteries in the first 3 when the lights got dim and they have been fine. I also had a critter chew the wire for the charger in 2 places and was able to splice it and the light has so far been holding up. I have the lights in the top part of my sunken patio area and on real sunny days they are sometimes still on in the morning when i get up at 5 am. overall I am happy with them and they look great even in daylight

Really love these cattails, and get lots of compliments. A few of the leaves have flopped and broken off, and you should NOT apply any pressure to leaves or glass when installing. Also, one of the 6 that I bought has a weak battery pack (doesn't shine as brightly or as long as the others, though solar panel is in same position). Still, I love them!

The soldering in the solar panel was VERY Poor. The charge could not get to the light because of the poor connection - which was loose and any wind would take out. I sent it back and was sent one that Gardner's tried to repair. It lasted a week before the connection went out on it.

Very attractive, but these have got to be one of the worst items that GS has ever offered.

Ordered three, and within a day, two of them didn't work. GS sent two replacements, and those ended up doing the same thing.

We found that all of the problems had to do with the cheap, plastic solar rechargers. We were able to get them working again by opening up the recharger itself and adjusting the small metal battery connectors inside. However, after another day or two, they'd just stop working again and we'd have to do the same thing all over.

We finally just got tired of contantly having to mess with them and requested a full refund. I will say that GS was very accomodating and did refund our purchase price in full.

Their customer service is much better than this product.

The lights are placed so that the the solar panels are in full sunlight for most of the day. The lights have never been more than a feeble little light - visable, but not anything like the lights shown in the catelog photo. They were packaged well and easy to set up.

When I purchased the product it was shown as three in your catalog and I mistakenly thought that was what I was getting for the price when I ordered a quantity of one. Only one came, of course, and I can see now why three were pictured because one alone is not sufficient. However, the cost of one is too high to go ahead and order two more.

This product appeared so unique and special I was anxious to display it in my garden. However, it has never glowed or produced light in the manner shown in the marketing material. The light was so dim, it looked like a firefly in our backyard. I am sorry, but this is the worst purchase I have ever made with GS.

The cattails did not illuminate properly, even when new recharged batteries were inserted. Fully exposing solar panels did not charge batteries, even though other solar products in the same area did fine.

What's worse, pushing the cattails into the ground caused one of them to break and fall on the shaft. Expensive, which I don't mind if they work, but these are a total waste. Very dissapointed.
