    Having purchased all of the different pumpkin-vegetable silhouettes was lots of fun. Our family owned manufactured home business sets up a model home at the Reading (PA)fair each year. Our gardener took the time to paint each silhouette and then used cabbages Red and green for the turkeys, hen & roosters and pigs. Large onions made the perfect young ducks, and small cantelopes make great peeps.that were scattered amongst the landscaping. The zuchini dog graced the side of the front door.     As of date, my only purchase from you has been the turkey, hen & chicks, bunny silhouettes and my husband and I have totally enjoyed them. They are so much fun to look at.     I am so pleased with this entire line of fruit/vegetable-body animals! They look so real, they turn heads when parading around my garden! The rooster holds court over the hen and chicks in the yard while Mr.Turkey makes a neat greeter for the front steps. These animals are fun to make any time, but really are best used in the autumn when the weather is crisp enough that a pumpkin or butternut squash, for example, wouldn't get soft too soon.

    Decomposition's the only drawback, of course, with using real produce; yet they wouldn't be such fun otherwise. In any case, as they weren't designed to be permanent, one could hardly list their transitory nature as a negative.

    Of course these little animal friends don't disappear immediately in warm sun as "winter snowfriends" do, but they only last two or three days in warm weather. Still, even in summer, using the hard winter vegetables delay the inevitable.

    I did think of varnishing the vegetables, like gourds, once they were put together, with special care around the places where pushed-in body parts let in air, but I haven't done it yet so cannot report on effectiveness. It might be worth a try.

    As a kindergarten teacher, I'm always on the lookout for an interesting learning activity. Adding a cardboard box as a barn, my kindergarteners had a great time making a barnyard in the schoolyard. Choosing which vegetable was most appropriate for which animal invoked a lot of discussion and learning. But as one mom said, "I just love them because they make great decorations for a party too."
